    PLEASE READ! I think everyone watches this video and thinks it's the end-all-be-all solution to every ceramic Coating removal. ITS NOT! I specifically created this video and mentioned that the coating used is an entry-level 2 year Coating that has been on the surface of a daily driver for 2+ years. With this in mind brake buster was able to knock it down sufficiently with the clay bar. Some of you are asking me questions regarding other coatings & polishing... YES for thicker and more resilient coatings you will have to polish (and there are so many variables to this so just contact the manufacturer of the coating). But when I made this video I put myself in the shoes of an enthusiast not necessarily just a professional, I understand many of you do not have access professional-grade Coatings and there will come a time you would like to remove the current entry grade coating off your vehicle.

    Owe you a beer for this one. I was getting ready to apply a new coating. Washed the car with diluted Super Clean, decontaminated with CarPro TRIX, clayed and then machine polished with Griot's Perfecting Creme. The 25 month old Optimum Gloss Coat was still beading surprising well. Came across your video, tried P&S BB diluted 4-1 and it knocked it right down. Thanks for this, saved me from doing multiple polishing steps. I will, however, not use P&S BB on my coated wheels, but the trade-off was well worth it.

    Just wanted to add that this video really helped me out, i carried out a machine polish using a rotary and didn't realise the holograms that get created but ceramic coated before noticing, took around 3-4 days of hard work, 2 stage machine polishing with both a rotary and DA machine but i started off with this method and clay bar and it was so helpful and effective. thanks for this.

    Glad I stumbled across this. I am looking to recoat a daily driver that has a nearly 2 year old mckees coating on it. It still performs okay but shows wear in the high wear areas. I did not want to compound or polish since it’s soft japanese paint and still in excellent condition.
    I’m surprised brake buster is strong enough though. It’s economical and works well enough on maintained wheels but it’s far from the strongest wheel cleaner. I use it 10:1 on my ceramic coated wheels (gtechniq csl). Kind of worrisome it could be degrading the coating (even if a minuscule amount each time).

I want to remove it all so I can apply another product. I really like your video because you just proved that a polisher is not always necessary to achieve this task. Since this one is supposed to last up to 2 years, do you believe using a clay mitt with Super Clean would work? And if so what dilution ratio would you use?

    • @48Detailing

    Hi CarNewba Detailing. Do you believe the method and products shown in this video would remove ceramic coating (or equivalent ie Gyeon Quartz) from Paint Protection Film (PPF - Xpel or the like) without damaging or staining the PPF? Also, are you using a fine or coarse clay? Thanks in advance.

    • @48Detailing
      @48Detailing  4 года назад

      In your case I would recommend to use a fine polish to remove the coating from the PPF! I recommend this because ppf is softer then clear coat and because brake buster is an alkaline based cleaner it might stain the PPF. If you want to try it use it at 10:1 then 5:1 but nothing stronger then that with a fine grade clay mitt!

    • @bforceAU

      @@48Detailing Thanks for the reply. The car was PPF'd (full front end) and Gyeon Q2MOHS+ back in 2017. The car is in perfect condition apart from in recent times where water mark etching, marring and scratching has developed, particularly on the bonnet, which has the PPF. I have taken the car back to the original installers/detailers to get the opinion - of which they then to tried to deny they coated the PPF etc even though I have the paperwork/receipts etc - and whether or not you should ceramic coat the PPF (especially back in 2017 with limited appropriate PPF coating products/information around) is also up for debate. In any case, they have tried Gyeon PPF Renew with no success, other cutting compounds, again with no success, so I am looking into other options, rather than having the PPF removed and replaced (as in certain sections it contains an expensive livery over the PPF which I really do not want to loose in the PPF removal, if I don't have to). Apex Detailing did a video on a Supra where he compounded the coating off. He showed the white line during the process where the coating was being removed and its edge was exposed. Might be kinda neat future video if you showed that with this method to add some proof/evidence of it being removed beyond just the water beading. Just a thought. ;)

    • @48Detailing
      @48Detailing  4 года назад +1

      Coating removal all depends on the coating. Some coatings have a thickness of 5+ microns while others have 1 micron or less. Mckeeys 37 is on the low end of 1 micro or less, with this in mind, and the coating was on the daily driver for 2+ years (coating is only rated up to 2 years) a chemical decon was sufficient for the coating removal process. If you want to play it safe follow up with a light polish. If I was trying to remove something like 2+ layers of fresh P&S Inspiration (3-4 microns) just like Brian you can physically see the coating being removed throughout the polishing process. The truth is the vast majority of enthusiasts and consumers are using lighter end Coatings like cquartz light, these are polymer based forms of Coating that are enhanced with SIO2. Yes they are considered coatings, but they are not SIO2 based.

    • @Jason-pt3gw
      @Jason-pt3gw 4 года назад +1

      @@48Detailing Interesting. Not sure I know enough to understand what "not being SiO2 based" means exactly but kinda surprising to hear many consumer-available coatings are some other form of polymer as opposed to what qualifies an actual SiO2 coating. Indeed sounds like your familiar with all this though, lol. Good stuff.

    A couple of months ago I coated with Proje’ Ceramic from Amazon. I’d like to strip it off in order to compound, polish, apply Jescar Power Coat and Collonite 845 since I gained the confidence to try paint correction, even though I know I’m working backwards. (And I learned I love waxing and prefer the look, even if it’s short lived comparatively.) With my glass ceramic coated as well, will this BB cause any issues? If I were to foam my whole vehicle with it to clay bar after, what parts do you recommend I avoid BB coming in direct contact with (glass, plasti-dipped parts, etc)?

    • @48Detailing

      Bring a 1 gal jug of distilled water for 99 cents n ur soap obv with ya to refill if u need. I clean my truck, mind u a tacoma and never ever needed more.
      Now if ur doing a maintenance wash vs a thorough cleaning, if im doing a thorough cleaning its mr pink on the first wash and then clean slate on the second followed by iron remover which has always gotten the wax and sealants off very good.
      Washing with clean mf towels with each process.
      So that requires me to refill it twice which 1 gallon will easily do.
      I dont totally fill my foamer as u'll see, the lower it gets the more air it will hold and the longer the spray time u'll get and the foaming gets better as well.
      Totally worth it.
      Id buy it over a pressure washer and foam cannon, its not better by any means than a pressure washer will yield better foam but its absolutely sufficient and a step up from a 2 bucket wash. U only need 1 bucket if u still wanna do it that way as well.
      Its a tool, u don't need it, just makes it a little more fun.

      It prob coukd full strength, it also deps where ur at in the process with a high spot, if ifs cured u need to basically polish it off. If its dry enough u csnt wipe it off but not cured, often times u csn reapply a bit more on that area which will allow it to kinda reactivate and go bavk to its liquid state, its solvents in the solution that allows it to be applied, n when those solvents are air dry an dissappear, it leaves the coating, which is hard. The reason u wait until the specified time to wipe off, u should do a test area firdt so u know whT that time is as it will be diff for everyone, temperature n humidity and even if there is a breeze or not will dictate how long u wait (some r uv curing which gets into anither realm) anyway, if u catch it at the right time reapplying and wiping it off then often times will work if its early into the curing process.

Take a scrap panel put coating on it then wash it off like you did in the video let dry !!. Spray paint the panel and you will see the massive fail !! You have to wet sand that crap off ..
