- BLUNT Mag's Lachlan Marks sat down with director Quentin Tarantino in Sydney to discuss his latest film, The Hateful Eight, for a very special edition of BLUNT TV.
I've watched a lot of these interviews and the Aussie interviewers always ask Quentin the best questions.

The thing I like about Tarantino is his passion, and he's basically the same guy who worked in the video store all those years ago. He just makes high quality movies now.

The way Quentin Tarantino explains how Australian audiences are is 100% true.
Tarantino gives fantastic interviews and truly engages with his interviewers. Come prepared and demonstrate an interest and you will have his full attention; put him on the defensive for the absurd claim that his movies make people violent and you will get shut down!
Have you seen the interview from a LA news channel about Kill Bill? That woman was totally disrespecting him. (They set up the interview JUST for confrontation.) He ended up shutting her down and making her looking a lil crazy. :P

The Hateful Eight is top 3, after Inglorious Basterds and Pulp Fiction in my opinion. The guy this man reveals characters and their past in conversation is so unique and well done. One of the greats of cinema

A very good interview. Lachlan Marks asked intelligent, insightful questions that obviously intrigued Tarantino and got him really talking.

Idk about his best movie or script but was a damn good film.
It's long so I don't view it often but I've seen it about 4 or 5 times in my lifetime and always with someone who hasn't seen it never gets dull ❤️

I agree with his comments about aussie audiences being demure, although I think it depends on the location. Hayden Orpheum is probably not the best cinema to get a rowdy audience as it is essentially an art house cinema so the audience is going to be a low key audience.
I saw TFA at IMAX and it had great audience reaction. Cheering at Millennium Falcon, Han Solo, Princess Leia (but oddly no cheering at Luke)
Brian McGovern at that stage in the film you werent supposed to cheer because we didnt know what to expect, was it the end of the movie or was Luke going to say something? That's why even in LA cinemas the response to Luke was quiet. we were waiting to see what happens next. fortunately and unfortunately we wont get to know until this December
lol... I listen Sirius xm coffee house, on a saved preset... and always feel weird about it. Now I can listen to it and feel an urge to be self conscience and I'll just tell myself, "don't change this station, you're super fucking cool listening to this chillax music"

Unpopular opinion: Jackie Brown sucked, and was barely memorable. Death Proof was an absolute gem, it just requires a certain breed of humor and bloodthirst

Inglourious Basterds was probably his best for me
I feel like Inglourious grows on you. At first I felt like it it was too episodic even if that was the style and also I didn't quite get the expected payoff from the Basterds. But with time it gained more depth for me. I still don't find it as tight as some of his earlier works but I prefer it to his attempts at making more traditional movie narratives with more character realism. I feel like there are certain kinds of emotional sensitivity that Tarantino maybe does not have in spades as a person and that shows a bit when he is working more of a traditional drama with more naturalistic character arcs that require a different kind of psychological depth than some of his other characters. They are deep too but a different kind of deep - and they exist in shorter "bursts" if you will. It's just an intuition though.

He's done a lot of good movies but it's just too hard to beat his first three: Reservoir Dog, Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown. I couldn't in good contience say the movies following it where better than these three(even if individual performances in other movies were great like Sam Jackson on Django, Kurt Russell in Deathproof, etc...).
Johnny Skinwalker Every movie after Jackie Brown is better than that except Death Proof. Death Proof may be his worst but it's much more enjoyable than Jackie Brown and is still has everything to expect from a Tarantino film and a great car chase also.
I love Quentin but he's up his own ass about this screenplay.

Personnaly my lease favorite film of his by far. In fact I didn’t liked it one bit. A big part of it is that it was written like a play and was performed like a play. It felt like I was watching a televised play, very much overacted. I hope he’s gonna redeemed himself with his next one. But from what I saw from his first trailer teaser, I think his time has passed. Let’s not be QT fanboys here, let’s just say things the way they are. Have this film been his first one, he wouldn’t have had the career he’s had nor the attention.

Hm Tarantino thinking this is his best script validates me in my assessment he is losing ground since Inglorious Bastards and Django Unchained. Tarantino's scripts and ideas become repetitive, sometimes forced (Calvin Candie's speech in Django about phrenology = Tarantino's attempt to recreate the great monologues from previous films and fell short). In a nutshell, Tarantino is one more feature away to become a caricature of himself, a relic of the 90s, child of the 70s with a brilliant mind and execution skill but trapped in his realm.
@ The "what about"ism approach is something I don't do. I talked about Tarantino, not about the rest of hollywood. That conversation would be to broad imo and senseless.
Why watch it in America where people will take offence to the racism when you can watch it with a bunch of racist Australians. Australians are notorious for being racist
