Hi Dale. I probably listened to The Wall a hundred times over the course of my life, but a significant number of them would have been the CD. You know it's an interesting contest if it leaves you making calculations regarding your own mortality. Randy has a great channel, good luck in the contest.
Hi Dale. I always thought I was a spreadsheet nerd, but I'm handing the baton to you! 🤣 I do catalogue my records on a spreadsheet, but I've never been tempted to catalogue my spins. I confess I did think about it for a nano-second when you mentioned it, but it went straight into the life's too short bin! Good selection of records, though I'll pass on Richard Hawley! Cheers, Dale
Hi dale I’m lucky I can play music occasionally when I’m testing at work , that adds up to at least 25 hours a week . On holidays I always listen to Cole’s corner it’s my favourite holiday listen .. cheers dale 👍
I didn't know that there would be math involved. No, I think you are right in that it is hard to listen to an album 100 times, especially as your collection grows. I know that I have played Bridge Over Troubled Water a lot and Dusty Springfield, but probably Dusty In Memphis the most. I just bought my first Richard Hawley album (a compilation). It's hard to get the one you showed without spending a bunch of money, at least here in the states.
Great logic with your explanation here Dale...I don't know when the deadline is, but I may do a response anyway, as it's an interesting topic. 100 spins is a lot, there are possibly only a handful of albums within my collection that I could say with any degree of certainty have been spun that amount..I think the notion of picking future candidates was a good idea and may adopt myself ( apologies for the plagiarism).
I was trying to keep up with the math on how often you will play those albums before you depart the earth Dale. Do you base this upon a certain age when you plan to drop dead or do you base it upon a couple different death dates. Love your spreadsheets
I based this on a date when the grim reaper is booked to appear but a range could be interesting. How would I set the extremes of the range though. Punk for an earlier appointment, religious music for the latest and then what I actually listen to for the median perhaps...Does funkier music skew right or left?
Lots of interesting calculations here Dale. When I used to have a car CD player certain albums would stay in the player for a week. About the only recent occasions of repeated listening since I was a teenager and had hardly any records.
Hi Dale, "the wall", Elton, AC/DC, "this is soul", ALL magnificent albums IMO, great stuff. i only own Kate's debut, Richard Hawley, he was recommended to me last year and i purchased his doubly vinyl compilation which i really like. i never liked The Cure and still dont. Dusty is an incredible artist and love the one you showed. never owned anything by Shadow Puppets either, maybe i should?! - Lloyd
Hi Lloyd, glad to meet your seal of approval with most of my choices. I'd definitely recommend giving that Last Shadow Puppets album a listen if you can...cheers Dale
"aiming to get it to a tight 2000...." lol Meanwhile you're bringing home 10-20 records every month. That's an interesting look at listens. I think you're the only person so far who doesn't feel that there are tons of records that the've played 100 times. I wonder if we're all overestimating the number of plays? I really feel sure that for those first twenty or thirty albums I owned, 100 spins is a low number. For newer records, I think Liam Gallagher/John Squire was released on March 1; I got it by March 15. I feel certain I've played it twenty times by now. Will I listen to it 8 times a year for the next ten years? That's hard to say....probably not. I think you're the second person who actually documents number of plays (All The World's A Stage also documents number of plays.) Well, it's all interesting. Thanks for entering Dale!
I was hoping to get to a slim 1,500 but a tight 2,000 may be as far as I can go and continuing to bring records home is not going to help. It may be that my memory is so poor I can't remember so much about those first albums, so I may well have played them more than I think...

I'm always looking for a way to keep it light...

Life is never too short to add another category to the spreadsheet Andy...
Great choices - that Elton album is ingrained within my brain thanks to my parents ! And Back in Black stills sounds fresh and fab today 🎉
Thanks, both albums I can happily listen to still...
It's a lot easier to spin a record 100 times when you are 14, broke, own no more than a few dozen albums, and have no Internet.
That is spot on Chris. Would we want to return to those times? Maybe not the broke bit but more time and less clutter could appeal...

You've probably got 60,000 spins left then Rob...

I'm always looking to get maths in if I can. I was lucky to get Coles Corner when it was reissued a few years ago, as it goes for silly money now...

Would be good to see your most played albums and candidates Rob...Not plagiarism either as Randy suggested it for his contest...

Oh for those days in our youth when we had hardly any records and life was much simpler...

Those are some spin worthy albums for sure! I've probably spun AC / DC and Simon and garfunkel 100 times.
Those are both great albums, worthy of many spins...
