    Hey Brittany! Dunedin is a fantastic university town with heaps to do and a lifestyle second to none, but you must spend time there to appreciate it. The uni is ranked in the top 200 in the world and the city has a really cool social scene vibe. It also has an amazing craft beer reputation. After a lifetime of global travel, imo NZ is the world's most impressive country: insane variety in scenery, friendly people within a laidback culture, lifestyle balance, and embracing multiculturalism while valuing its indigenous Maori culture. Loved my time there. And i hope you will enjoy yours, for however long you choose to stay.

      Indeed, Dunedin is the best & most beautiful city in New Zealand! I came to NZ from Taiwan more than 32 years ago when I was just 28. Living in various cities in North Island, I really regret not being able to come & settle in Dunedin earlier, only came here to retire 4 years ago. This program probably just stands for 10% of Dunedin! Yes, even less than 10%.
      Dunedin has so many places to explore......; wow I wish I can brief them all. However this program didn't record anything about our coasts like Tunnel Beach, Victoria Beach, Aramoana Beach, Long Beach, Macandreew Bay, San fly Bay.... not to mention Larna Castle & Harrington Point where Is the home of albatross. Yes we also have Harbour Cone near Broad Bay all can be accessed with No 18 bus which I take regularly for my summer hill climbing activity from where I can really really have an overview allover Dunedin Harbour. So pretty! Talking about harbour view, also try Mount CARGILL lookout. Almost no where else is above this spot around the harbour. Oh yes also try our museums ......; this program is too short to represent DUNEDIN. I love this city that I came to retire to, and I have to say the most beautiful scenery of this city is its PEOPLE! People here are so kind & lovely with old values respecting different cultures, respecting each others,
      different from anywhere else where I had lived in NZ. The best!!!

    I can't believe I missed your video on my home town! You definitely need to spend some time here to appreciate it's culture. I've lived here all my life (so far, that is - apart from a year in Wellington), and I do love it. Winter isn't it's best season though; it does get very dreary and damp - visit in spring or summer and definitely visit the beaches (especially the northern ones like Aramoana, Long Beach and Purakanui), Tunnel Beach, Kapukataumahaka/Mt Cargill, and the peninsula. Dunedin's beauty is in how quickly you can be in nature away from everybody, but still have the conveniences of a city. Also a huge amount of restaurants for the population. The city also looks a lot better when most of it isn't under construction/getting maintenance work or road works done, like it is at the moment. Oh, and because I'm so used to all our botanic gardens being free to anyone here, I was completely taken aback by having to pay to visit the Montréal ones, lol (nearly CA$30!).

    I'm now in Dunedin to study! I think this is very mild place. People are nice, and the view is beautiful. The first thing that surprised me is that everyone greet and say thank you to a driver in the bus. I think this culture is very good.😊😊

    Hi Brittany. Yeah, just some hints on pronunciation. (I noticed you sorted out how Speights is said🙂). It is Oh-taa-go and Lar-nak’s Castle. Please don’t think I’m being critical. I would no doubt mangle your country’s names as well. Oh and just so you know, the aviary at the Garden’s has become highly controversial and is probably being removed as many feel it is a cruel facility. The Railway Station is finished now (feb 2024) and looks amazing c’mon back soon. I couldn’t help giggling when you said how small Dunedin is as it seems big to me!

    • @brittanymorgan09
      @brittanymorgan09  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the comment! I've heard other locals pronounce Otago "uh-tah-goh" so that's a debate you'll have to have with your fellow NZers! I've had comments on videos in the past where someone said "I really hate when people say OH TAA GO" LOL.
      This video is quite old now, we've been to Dunedin about 5 times I think and just love it more and more each visit! It's definitely small compared to the cities we're from in Canada and also Welly/Auckland. Good to know about that aviary, very sad to hear that!
      Thanks for watching & commenting.

    • @paulinemeinung8949
      @paulinemeinung8949 6 месяцев назад +1

      I’m really surprised on your comment on Otago’s pronunciation. It is actually a corruption of the Māori Word Otakou which is definitely a long a. I think if I went around pronouncing it like, say, you might pronounce “Montego” I would be pretty much universally boo-ed! Still, it’s a minor thing and I only mentioned it out of kindness. I really love any videos such as yours which are very appreciative of my home city and country. It is a wonderful place to holiday, live and rear future generations. I’ll be watching your other vids with joy.

    • @brittanymorgan09
      @brittanymorgan09  6 месяцев назад

      @@paulinemeinung8949 Oh I don't take offence at all haha! I meant there are other folks from Otago who are going around telling everyone to pronounce it uh-tah-go and it's just funny to me how people from the same place argue over pronunciation! Thanks for the comment because it has me second guessing some other peoples comments who are potentially wrong. Taupo is another one we've heard MANY locals in Nelson say "tau-po" not "toe-paw" as we've been told. Plus so many people here say "mao-ree" not "moe-ri" I hope that makes sense. We always try to get better at pronouncing words here there's just conflicting advice.
