I just got these for $220. What a steal. These closed back planars are awesome 😎. Bass has nice punch. Its great for a planar. Mid range is great and its definitely there. Lots midrange details is nice. The treble is nice, but occasionally at high volume a vocal may pierce. That's my only issue. For a closed back planar these are great. It does not sound like Hifiman open backs which is a good thing for me. I have he400se and two other planar magnetic open backs of $500-$600. These sound nothing like those.

Thank you for reviewing the SC for what it is and what it does well, rather than simply comparing to the Sundara for namesake reasons.

It’s great to see, William, that you’ve slowed down almost like you used to and being back to the more relaxed manner that it makes people want to watch your reviews. One suggestion: please change the setting so that the photos in the background do not change so often, it’s very distracting. Also try the slowly dissolving transition between photos. Setting them to change once every 2-3 minutes or so would be much better. All the best for the new year.

Snagged these for less than $150 and I’m really excited to give it a shot tomorrow when they arrive. As someone new to planar magnetic headphones on the cheap I’m looking forward to seeing if they can match how much I love my “PM” set of earbuds.

Man, I wish I had one of these. I really like the level of sound reproduction they can do, but the price is just something I can't justify spending in my situation. They're like one of those pair of headphones that you buy and then treasure for years to come.

I would have to say that you are the first of all the reviewers out there that I have watched, who actually said positive things about this Sundara Closed-Back headphone. I just got started on this new adventure of hifi and I'm buying piece by piece. I started with the Philips SHP9600 and the Fiio K7 but now I need to take the next step up in headphone buying. I looked at the best deals and some are just not deals at all and not an upgrade from SHP9600. I found these on Amazon for 149.00 and was wondering are these indeed an upgrade from the SHP9600? I have been looking at the Fidelio X2HR, Fidelio X3, Sennheiser HD 569, Sennheiser HD 599, all the Sennheiser 600 series among others. I may pull the trigger on these SC because for 149.00 how could I go wrong 😆

As long as you don't expect the Sundara Closed back to sound the same as the Open Back version, it is a good headphone. I think most of the criticism was from people who expected the exact same sound.

@theheadphoneexperience-wil2250 Thank you so much for responding! So are these an upgrade from the SHP9600? I figured pretty much anything would be an upgrade but just want to make sure before I spend 150.00 that could potentially go towards a better pair in the future.

I've only heard the SHP9500, so I can't really say if it would be an upgrade. The Edition-XS at $379 or Anada Stealth at $399 might be worth saving up for. Both excellent headphones. The Edition-XS a little more bassy, and the Ananda more neutral. @@jamesberryman9893

Edition XX was the same. The high expectations lead to a lot of unwarranted criticism and yet the Edition XX is a great relaxed, warm, good listen.

Are the open ones in the video not the Ananda? ... surely the Sundara cups are more round from what I have seen. I have only last week tested both the Ananda and a He400se... both open.

these are on sale for 170 bucks here. Are the open Sundara worth 140 more (sell for 310)?

It’s more of an R10P on the cheap. It’s bringing the 1200 USD R10P tech down to the masses. So it’s on a different branch to the open back Sundara. I’m ever so close to pulling the trigger on this one.

Good evening, one thing bothers me after consulting several reviews, most of the tests were carried out without the pre-required break-in by the manufacturer and with the original cable. My question is this, have you had the opportunity to try the headset with a 4.4 mm symmetrical jack to dual 3.5 mm jack cable and with hundreds of hours of break-in?

I may have gotten a bad unit, but the one I heard was so laughably bad I couldn't believe it. Just a really honky, bass-free, mid-forward mess of a frequency response. Nothing sounded good on it even plugged into my Bifrost 2/Jotunheim 2 + EF400, etc.

In my opinion they are decent if you're not expecting them to sound like an open back Sundara. FAR better than the HE-R9.
