My house is on the ocean 🌊 but it sits on the bedrock. The beach is a 2 minute walk. I wouldn’t recommend a home on stilts unless of course it’s in a sheltered harbour
These homes were built in the 80's or around then. Plus the homes used to be 250+ feet away from the ocean, due to erosion and rising sea levels, their losing 13 feet per year. Hence why some homes are legit in the ocean.

Most of these Outer Banks vacation homes are FEMA "VE" flood zone and there is Flood Insurance with limited coverage of the structure, but does not insure the land, so if the ocean reclaims the sand there is nothing left to build on. During a big wave/flood event houses will fall, at least two collapsed so far this morning.

On the Outer Banks, NC, once the ocean knocks it down they cannot rebuild there, the one behind it will be oceanfront.
