You could improve the plywood method. By putting 2 or 3 different sized paw notches, one on each flat side of the plywood. Putting a couple rope handles on the backside would be helpful as well. This way you could have a cat/fox size notch, and wolf sized notch. Or whatever un-intentional catches happen.
Nice job on the release. A catch pole risks windpipe damage. What a mudball! Can you imagine that cat walking along and encountering another cat? That would have to make the other cat curious.
swampwhiteoak1 he was a mess for sure! We’ve seen and gotten pictures of a lot more cats this year. Haven’t had any in a trap tho. Fingers crossed it stays that way
Probably need to use a different term than "catch and release" as so many here ask the same question about why you are catching them. I guess a lot of people think of catching and releasing fish not realizing in this case the original intent was not to catch a bobcat.
I am glad they are released. But very sad to see so many traps people made. Such traps have made them exausted, or even they might have injured in some ways already. also very likely would make them more difficult to fight for food and to servive later.
We set them for coyotes. But due to the scents we use we catch other predators. Can’t dictate what the traps catch but we do our part by not illegally shooting the cats.
Our intentions were to catch coyotes. They are overpopulated in this area and we don’t get to hunt them like we would like. So we set out the traps hoping to catch them instead. With that being said, bobcats search for food and they tend to get trapped as well.
@@CodyMorris210 so you decide to kill all animals idiot. every bobcat you catch will die in the wild because of the injured paw. that animal cannot hunt and feed itself.

I’m Ohio where I’m from it’s illegal to kill bobcats. Somme other states probably have the same laws. We put these out in hopes of catching coyotes and foxes but have had a few cats step in the traps
We aren’t irresponsible. We know how to use the traps and have cameras set up by them that send us pictures so we know what’s in the trap to get them released fast.
Just place a mirror on the opposite side of where the release action shall take place. That way, it thinks there is another cat and will be occupied, fighting itself 🤔
They are intended for coyotes and other predators. If a coyote was in the trap I wouldn’t have made a video because we would have harvested it. Bobcats are not legal to hunt or kill in the state of ohio so we have to release them.

We only set them on private property. These traps aren’t like they use to be. There’s no sharp teeth, the intent is to only hit the joint of the animal causing a pinch point. Animals have gotten out of them. Yeah it will cause some discomfort for them but it’s not going to puncture their limbs like the old school bear traps.
