Things people should understand about this that a lot Ff7 fans get completely wrong. Clouds mind here is scrambled by the Mako experiments done on him and he is basically a vegatable with trauma. Cloud crawls to Zack with sheer willpower and Zacks first words to him is to survive for the both of them, that his honor and dreams are now Clouds and that Cloud is his living legacy. These words help Cloud reconstruct his scrambled thoughts by replacing the trauma with his own memories of Zack, adopting Zacks identity and actions. Some people seem to think Cloud has Zacks personal memories and personality which is false. Instead Cloud uses Zacks words to fix his mind and help him forget his trauma which is why he gets headaches anytime he is reminded of his Trauma in FF7. Cloud does not carry Zacks personal memories or personality but merely adopts his identity as a 1st class Soldier.
Eeeehhhhh sort of. It has been confirmed that Jenova cells allow the sharing of memories and such and back in the original those white flashes when Tifa finds Cloud at the station has been confirmed to be the cells rewriting his memory. The part about Cloud being a vegetable with trauma is 100% accurate but yeah it’s a mix of him repressing the memories and Jenova cells making him mimic Zack far more accurately. (You can actually see this in the Remake with how he sits and some of his mannerisms which are mimicking Zack more than just from observation)
@@sanddry738 being able to connect through Jenova cells does not mean that Zack and Cloud connected through Jenova cells. None of them have this ability either. Cloud mimics the 1st class Soldier of Zacks but is also extremely different in personality and actions. People think Cloud has Zacks memories and personality which is completely wrong.

They kept it because there is no other ending. The remake is not what people think it is. The living Zack is not as alive as you guys think and the story is not about timelines but altered memories or something similiar. So surviving characters are still actually dead. Do not act surprised if we bump into a Zack and eventually we get the twist that nothing we see happened physically.

Yeah i was like 12 if i remembr correctly. It was so fucking sad. And i didnt know anything about FF7. I only played Crisis Core at that time. Right now im enjoying Rebirth. Am 26 now. This Game back then taught me what real pain was.
God the way Cloud says “I’m…your living…legacy” hurts so much. It’s like he is barely comprehending what’s even happening and just repeating what he hears. Cody Christian absolutely nailed this scene and gave Cloud the kind of confused broken emotion that he needed.

21:45, this moment still hurts. The way Cloud reaches out to Zack is like he’s representing us, the players trying to prevent Zack’s death. Sadly, it’s inevitable. He gave his life protecting Cloud, so he can live. So he can be the hero he always dreamed to be.

They wouldn't have got there in time, SHINRA probably had a way to deter them - since they had opposing MO's. Tseng and Cissnei wanted to keep Cloud and Zack alive, so that he would get the letters from Aerith. Whereas Shinra wanted to kill them because they were pretty much criminals due to Hojo pulling strings to turn them into public enemy no 1

I love this trope of the hero being defeated but only because they were weakened. Zack normally would never lose to shinryu's army of humans, 1st class were made to be able to solo entire armies. (Which is why sephiroth's weapon is so long, to literally reap as a many as possible). However he just bearly lived against genisis, while degrading is on par with his power, and buffed by the literal gawd of the world. Not to mention the psychological pain he was in, constantly protecting and carrying cloud. His friends, comrades and hero's were all dead (genisis' condition would of been unknown to Zack though). Aerith had finally given up on him after 4 years. Again no way Zack would of lost here, but he wasn't at peak performance and that's what makes it beautiful.
Wrong. 1st Class are not immortal and they are not omnipotent gods. A SOLDIER 1st Class would survive but normally but also would have been tactically retreating. Zack could not retreat at all and had no cover so he was taking damage from all sides. This is because he was protecting Cloud. Also much of the "SOLDIER are gods" stuff comes from the game play mechanics. Bullets and blades are just as effective on them as they are on normal humans when they hit.
This point is further proven by the mission to defeat 1000 shinra soldiers. I never completed it, but if in-game Zack can win, then animation Zack can do even better.
I will never forget Crisis Core. I played it so much back then and yet it never failed to make me shed tears when Zack died. The Price of Freedom truly is steep.
Also the fact that she knew Zack's passing by sensing his presence and hearing words from the lifestream. Imagine waiting for your loved one for years just to get a first-hand view of them dying the moment you meet them again.
The only thing cloud had over zack were his friends. Cloud had a lot of people to support him, while zack was mostly alone and all 3 of his friends betrayed him

Clouds emotions are what give him a plus ultra against people. It's also his greatest weakness too. It either breaks him down and makes him doubt himself (advent children) or gives him the strength to find power he never knew he had (first time he fought sephiroth when he got stabbed and flung sephi into a metal reactor followed by into a pit)

This is yet the only ending of a videogame that completely got me off guard and made me cry a waterfall. Incredible buildup with a very well fleshed out character.
Cody is the perfect voice for Cloud. He nails every aspect of his character, the scream at the end especially. He took something that was kinda goofy in the original and made it so raw.
The ending that truly broke me when I played it in the PSP. Yeah I'll never touch this again, even with the amazing reviews. My heart can't take it back then, and it sure as hell can't take it now.
This funny to me because I played Final Fantasy 7 on release and Aeriths death hit my feels. I never played the psp version, in fact the last Final Fantasy I played was the one with Lightning. I stopped buying them because none of them touch 7. 7 is simply put, perfect!

@@ismailmachhour2910 CC and remake are different. Remake is basically a whole different (wrecked) timeline from the original and CC. In the remake anything new can possible happen at any time. CC remaster doesn't change any critical plot so it still sticks to the original timeline.
I had been fighting the Shinra army for ~50 minutes before my mom finally looked up how to advance to the ending. The solution was to allow myself to take more damage, and a few rounds of me nearly dying and healing myself with aerial drain later, I finally managed to witness the most heartbreaking scene in my life. I honestly wish I kept going until the end.
Some of us knew Zack would die and still tried desperately to find another option where he didn't die. Zack will forever be one of the best FF character
What I also like is that the Turks were seemingly in the dark about Zack's location, while most of Shinra prepared an ambush knowing exactly where Zack was going to be. Given how the Turks operate and how good they are (Cissnei immediately found Zack soon after the escape from Nibelheim), there is likely more going on. Personally, I feel that it can be implied that the President, Heidegger, etc. all kept important information from the Turks regarding Zack's location near Midgar because they likely knew or had suspicions that Tseng and everyone were not going to turn over Zack if caught.
I can't believe I have to relive this pain again. My boi Zack deserves so so much more. But I know his sacrifice plays a big big role in the main game and later on. You're always our hero Zack.
@@RIELSG Nah, I said this because his character meant a lot to me and they gave him a very brutal death. But his sacrifice is what made the main game special and what made Advent Children too. The remake is non-canon for me.
22:12 very glad Caleb Pierce decided to change the way he delivered this line. To me it was never an issue that the VA’s changed, it was solely about how the line was delivered. In Remake, it almost sounded like Zack was cockily looking forward to dying against the battalion which doesn’t match at all with the tone of the scene. Here, he sounds like someone whose disappointedly aware that he’s about to die but is willing to give his all to protect his friend and see his crush again.
I still love Rick Gomez as Zack Fair, but Caleb Price take on the character isn't all that bad compared to how people making out to be. He definitly improved redoing the "Price of Freedom" scene compared to how it was presented in FF7 Remake.
I feel like Rick Gomez puts so much more passion into Zack in comparison to Caleb's performance. Honestly watch the two and it's clear who really nailed Zack.
imo caleb was really good at post time skip zack ( aka older zack ) which is a good thing because this is the zack we are sticking with from here on in the next parts

Wow. I'm glad to know so many other people were moved to tears by this game. Like Cloud I modeled my persona after Zack. The line "Embrace your dreams." Has been my motto ever since playing this game years ago. I accomplished quite a few my dreams. His legacy will live on!

Just finished. *man* This was my first time playing Crisis Core. Already knowing what happens to him before playing the entire game. I was legitimately was like "why isn't my Phoenix down working? Please don't do this. You were this close :("
They didn't change the ending so that new players can experience Zack's death and understand the significance of his appearance and survival in the remake ending
With how much I dislike Caleb as Zacks new voice actor you can tell he tried his hardest to deliver the final lines. He delivered the “the price of freedom is steep” line much better in this game than in the Remake
I don't think that's fair to the voice actor and more a result of the voice direction. You can certainly tell that in the recording booth he was likely told to mimic as much of his predecessors performance as closely as possible (even if that funky 2000's voice acting is not as great by today's standards) instead of trying to sound natural. I've heard what caleb can sound like when he's given room to work, so i expect his role in remake trilogy to be a major step up.
This was the first and only game to ever make me cry. Never was a fan FFVII but playing this and becoming a big fan of Zack’s character leading up this hopeless fight was saddening.
I know damn well I'm not the only one that still cries at the ending even for this remake. But for the first time, I cried with joy when he returned in the original remake. But even after all these years, this scene alone tears me apart
Its a remaster not a remake, nothing changed for Crisis Core. Zack did die. But we already know the Sephiroth in the Remake is the one that experienced already a final death, he manipulates the lifestream to change his fate. Zacks fate is unknown in the remake so far.
I remember finishing Crisis Core back on the PSP days, it was the only game so far that made me cry so hard. I've played the OG FFVII prior to this and didn't care for Zack but now, he's one of my favorite Final Fantasy characters ever. Hoping he'll play more roles in the remake

The one of FF7 remake well as you must see there is a lot of thing that wasn't the same as the original, because Sephiroth try to change the destiny (he probably know what will happens so he could be the Sephiroth from Advent Children that manage to came to the past for his purpose) so the Zack on FF7 remake is probably the one that get his destiny change in the timeline remake While the one of this vids is just the normal Zack with his real destiny

I don't know why so many fans are down on our newbie Zack-voice, whose name escapes me at the moment. I think he did a great job. Yes, Rick Gomez is one of a kind, but the new guy did well too. That last scene with Cody was beautiful, the little changes in Zack's voice as he speaks at the end are great, I think.
He really nailed zachs voice here. Sadly I can't agree no matter what on his original debut. I cringed really bad when I heard his squeaky "the price of freedom is steeep" way better now in this wfene
He definitely improved here compared to the Remake. Especially his Price of Freedom line before the final fight. In the original take in FFVIIR it sounded pretty bad. If I were to describe it, in the Remake he sounded like “Ugh, I guess I have to do this” and just very smug, while the original Crisis Core (and now Reunion) actually sounded like Zack was preparing for the inevitable while remaining confident in his beliefs until the end. Caleb Pierce did such a good job with the line in this case.
When that DMW got stuck on Aerith, man I was balling tears. I would never forget how hard I took Zack’s death when I played this on the PSP years ago. This was the first PlayStation game I cried to from the death of a character.
Finished playing CC Reunion yesterday. The sad part is that I’ve played the OG Crisis Core more than once, I’m more than familiar with the ending, and yet during the final sequence I still fought for my life spamming Potions and Curaga 😭😭
I saw Final Fantasy Advent Children before playing this gem of a game on the PSP. After the game I finally understood who the person was at the ending - being the spirit of Zack. Man do i love this game to death, one of the best stories ever…

I have this game for psp still, always impressed how amazing looks for a portable console and its ending is one of the best in ff saga, also the saddest, love this ff so much.
I'm here hoping that they implemented the 7R's ending by actually killing everything the Shinra Army can throw at you, because Zack's death was considered destiny and that's broken
There is an important buff to the badassery of Zack Fair’s final stand. They added helicopter wreckage to the battlefield after the time skip, indicating that he had destroyed them, rather than them leaving because they ran out of fuel necessary to reach a suitable landing site as implied in the Crisis Core ending. Even in the FFVII remake, only a single helicopter’s wreckage is visible.
I never play this game anymore because I don’t want to make him die once again. I couldn’t imagine how many times I had cried after the first time I played that 14 years ago…….just let it rest it peace in my memory now…
I JUST finished this game, and I'm crying. The way they designed the fight against the Shinra infantrymen was genius... it made me feel completely powerless and hopeless, with the limit breaks 'malfunctioning,' and Zack losing his strength. It was brutal seeing the infantrymen shooting him from his point of view. And I'll never hear "The Price of Freedom" the same again. I don't care what people say; Crisis Core is a great game. They way the executed the ending alone makes this game great, in my eyes. The writers had guts to kill off the player character, and they did it right. Sorry is this is jumbled, I'm still collecting my thoughts... 😭

I remember playing this game in PSP. I was very sad for about a week after Zack died. And seeing the remastered version of it and then the ending cinematic when Cloud is above the train then playing FF7 remake after is just beautiful.

Anyone else get the impressions that at 34:30, its essentially showing the lifestream pieces of Zack reach Aerith now in the "new" timeline at the spot the original Crisis Core essentially ends at and it's a major point in triggering her awareness that something is in fact off/seems familiar and begins the realization that this is the second coming of events? She would have well noticed his entering the lifestream in the original timeline and i'd imagine re-experiencing such a core trauma is one of the main things tipping her off to having the same "timeline awareness" that Sephiroth has. Factually there are two timelines now and it's also well demonstrated of certain others awareness' of this (Sephiroth indirectly speaks out to the player breaking the 4th wall referencing things wont go the same way this time, Aerith showing... something.... to Marlene as well as RedXIII prompting flashbacks of sorts, etc.) and frankly i'd have to imagine that eventually when we run into Bugenhagen he's going to be aware that something is going on as well....
IMO Caleb's Zack gradually gets better sounding after he gets the new hair & the buster sword. Almost like there's a maturation process for his entire character. Maybe that's the direction they were going for. Pre-buster sword = Young, naive, wet-behind-the-ears With buster sword= More serious sounding, less cheesiness in the delivery Just my two cents
A tip for the new players who didn't know the easiest way to beat genesis here, is get blizzarga change your focus to genesis himself and not the sword, then spam.
Interesting. Although it is pretty clear that remake is a sequel for everything before it, the post credit scene which cloud said "I am cloud, soldier 1st class" told us to continue the story in "Final Fantasy VII" not "Final Fantasy VII Remake"
The reason why it's not part of the remake timeline is that in a cutscene where you see Zack whispers are hovering somewhere and Zack can see it. Here there are no whispers to signify that this follows the remake.
I just finished this game for the first time last night. I always knew it was a tragic tale, but making the player play through the hopeless battle, truly heartbreaking, a little sadistic on the developer’s end.😢

I'm totally new to the series, didn't know anything about these characters a few days ago, and OUCH did Zack's death hit so dang hard. For me, part of what drives it home is how, during the entire game, you don't see the characters ever actually bleed from their injuries, even when Cloud gets skewered by Sephiroth. They don't actually show the injuries. But here at the end, for once, the game cuts to Zack, bleeding profusely from the head, riddled with bullet holes, and lying in a pool of his own blood. It's so jarring and painful to see
Jesus Clouds new scream at the end grew about 37lbs worth of balls. It actually jarred me a moment not knowing what to expect when I beat it xD I still had Clouds old scream in my head then this dude reached into his bowels and ripped them out through his esophagus for that scream.
Man this game is DOUBLE the pain huh? The pain of reliving Zack's death and the pain of playing through the game hearing Caleb's poor performance as Zack. I'm 100% playing the game in Japanese dub. Hope the modders put Rick's voice in soon.

15 years later, this ending still breaks my heart. Why did they remove Cloud's howling near Zack's body though? This was such a sad and heartbreaking moment, I was surprised they didn't keep this.

Honestly... I don't 100% get all the hate toward the new VA for Zack. Like, I get it, many people prefer Rick Gomez' interpretation, there's definitely a lot to love about it, but I definitely believe a lot of people are being way too harsh toward the new Voice Actor. Like, let's face it here, The material both Actors had to work with was not great to say the least, Reunion's writing is, for the most part, unchanged compared to OG Crisis Core, and while Rick Gomez definitely managed to make it "work" back then, it was still goddamn awkward in many places. The way I would describe the "differences" between both VA is: One is meant to sound heroic right from the start, like a typical Shonen protagonists, and the other has for goal to sound more "humane" and "Dorky" rather than heroic. And let's also not forget that Zack... has always been a goddamn dork, he's not exactly the brightest dude either, BUT he has a Heart of Gold and gives A LOT of shit about his dreams and people he holds dear.
I understand the hate lol. It's so hard to find someone who doesn't entirely hate the new VA tho. He's not perfect but he's decent enough for me. Even if they replaced Caleb with someone else, the reaction would probably remain the same lol.

The stuff with Zack is absolutely on a different timeline, hence why they showed a different design for Stamp the Dog during the changed scene. Zack is still dead on the Remake timeline as Cloud has the Buster Sword and has already set himself as Zack legacy

You guys are so happy to "know" Zack lives in the Remake, what a huge disappointment you'll get when realize this "alive" Zack in the Remake is actually how Cloud perceives the reality. It's his imagination recreating 'what would've been if Zack was alive, this is how he gets to Midgar, this is where he's reunited with Aerith' etc. The blow is about to come down in the Rebirth. This is it, folks, you choose by the ratings either _you_ want Zack alive (good ending) or not (bad ending)
So, Genesis kinda became a Weapon like Ultimate Weapon and Diamond Weapon? If he did, does that mean the Weapons were some kind of native life form that was turned into mecha beings to protect the planet??? Maybe the Cetra were the true creator of them and Loveless is a mess representation of it?
Was really hoping for a secret ending of some sort that ties into Final Fantasy VII Remake. This is a remaster, sure; but so was Final Fantasy Type-0 and we still got “a little something extra” hinting at the future of the game’s universe. The difference with Crisis Core Reunion is that future is already established: we will be seeing an alternate timeline where Zack survived that encounter.

Eeeehhhhh sort of. It has been confirmed that Jenova cells allow the sharing of memories and such and back in the original those white flashes when Tifa finds Cloud at the station has been confirmed to be the cells rewriting his memory. The part about Cloud being a vegetable with trauma is 100% accurate but yeah it’s a mix of him repressing the memories and Jenova cells making him mimic Zack far more accurately. (You can actually see this in the Remake with how he sits and some of his mannerisms which are mimicking Zack more than just from observation)

Cloud mimics the 1st class Soldier of Zacks but is also extremely different in personality and actions. People think Cloud has Zacks memories and personality which is completely wrong.
@@ldarkllrevanl181 he doesn’t have it exactly but he has a bit. It has to do with how Jenova cells can allow the host to mimic and share memories. It isn’t as extreme as Cloud becoming Zack but he definitely mimics and has false memories because of them
People dont seem to understand, the reason they kept the same ending is because they WANT people to experience Zack's death.
They kept it because there is no other ending. The remake is not what people think it is. The living Zack is not as alive as you guys think and the story is not about timelines but altered memories or something similiar. So surviving characters are still actually dead. Do not act surprised if we bump into a Zack and eventually we get the twist that nothing we see happened physically.

God the way Cloud says “I’m…your living…legacy” hurts so much. It’s like he is barely comprehending what’s even happening and just repeating what he hears. Cody Christian absolutely nailed this scene and gave Cloud the kind of confused broken emotion that he needed.

They wouldn't have got there in time, SHINRA probably had a way to deter them - since they had opposing MO's. Tseng and Cissnei wanted to keep Cloud and Zack alive, so that he would get the letters from Aerith. Whereas Shinra wanted to kill them because they were pretty much criminals due to Hojo pulling strings to turn them into public enemy no 1

I love this trope of the hero being defeated but only because they were weakened.
Zack normally would never lose to shinryu's army of humans, 1st class were made to be able to solo entire armies. (Which is why sephiroth's weapon is so long, to literally reap as a many as possible). However he just bearly lived against genisis, while degrading is on par with his power, and buffed by the literal gawd of the world. Not to mention the psychological pain he was in, constantly protecting and carrying cloud. His friends, comrades and hero's were all dead (genisis' condition would of been unknown to Zack though). Aerith had finally given up on him after 4 years.
Again no way Zack would of lost here, but he wasn't at peak performance and that's what makes it beautiful.

First class wasn’t meant to be superhuman until the compilation came out
Wrong. 1st Class are not immortal and they are not omnipotent gods. A SOLDIER 1st Class would survive but normally but also would have been tactically retreating. Zack could not retreat at all and had no cover so he was taking damage from all sides. This is because he was protecting Cloud. Also much of the "SOLDIER are gods" stuff comes from the game play mechanics. Bullets and blades are just as effective on them as they are on normal humans when they hit.
This point is further proven by the mission to defeat 1000 shinra soldiers. I never completed it, but if in-game Zack can win, then animation Zack can do even better.

I will never forget Crisis Core. I played it so much back then and yet it never failed to make me shed tears when Zack died. The Price of Freedom truly is steep.

Clouds emotions are what give him a plus ultra against people. It's also his greatest weakness too. It either breaks him down and makes him doubt himself (advent children) or gives him the strength to find power he never knew he had (first time he fought sephiroth when he got stabbed and flung sephi into a metal reactor followed by into a pit)
The third one is Luxiere a 2nd class soldier , in the ending he messaged zack , where is his location so he can get promoted

Cody is the perfect voice for Cloud. He nails every aspect of his character, the scream at the end especially. He took something that was kinda goofy in the original and made it so raw.
I really love his performance as Cloud, and that scream is definitely way better than the Original had.

The ending that truly broke me when I played it in the PSP. Yeah I'll never touch this again, even with the amazing reviews. My heart can't take it back then, and it sure as hell can't take it now.

This funny to me because I played Final Fantasy 7 on release and Aeriths death hit my feels. I never played the psp version, in fact the last Final Fantasy I played was the one with Lightning. I stopped buying them because none of them touch 7. 7 is simply put, perfect!

I had been fighting the Shinra army for ~50 minutes before my mom finally looked up how to advance to the ending. The solution was to allow myself to take more damage, and a few rounds of me nearly dying and healing myself with aerial drain later, I finally managed to witness the most heartbreaking scene in my life.
I honestly wish I kept going until the end.
It's brutal. Slowly dying while memories (DMW) slowly fading away just to show the harsh ending for the player and zack

What I also like is that the Turks were seemingly in the dark about Zack's location, while most of Shinra prepared an ambush knowing exactly where Zack was going to be. Given how the Turks operate and how good they are (Cissnei immediately found Zack soon after the escape from Nibelheim), there is likely more going on. Personally, I feel that it can be implied that the President, Heidegger, etc. all kept important information from the Turks regarding Zack's location near Midgar because they likely knew or had suspicions that Tseng and everyone were not going to turn over Zack if caught.
I wonder, what was Cissnei's reaction after finding out that Zack had perished? Atleast in the original timeline...
I can't believe I have to relive this pain again. My boi Zack deserves so so much more. But I know his sacrifice plays a big big role in the main game and later on. You're always our hero Zack.

22:12 very glad Caleb Pierce decided to change the way he delivered this line. To me it was never an issue that the VA’s changed, it was solely about how the line was delivered.
In Remake, it almost sounded like Zack was cockily looking forward to dying against the battalion which doesn’t match at all with the tone of the scene.
Here, he sounds like someone whose disappointedly aware that he’s about to die but is willing to give his all to protect his friend and see his crush again.
I still love Rick Gomez as Zack Fair, but Caleb Price take on the character isn't all that bad compared to how people making out to be. He definitly improved redoing the "Price of Freedom" scene compared to how it was presented in FF7 Remake.
I feel like Rick Gomez puts so much more passion into Zack in comparison to Caleb's performance. Honestly watch the two and it's clear who really nailed Zack.

Wow. I'm glad to know so many other people were moved to tears by this game. Like Cloud I modeled my persona after Zack. The line "Embrace your dreams." Has been my motto ever since playing this game years ago. I accomplished quite a few my dreams. His legacy will live on!

They didn't change the ending so that new players can experience Zack's death and understand the significance of his appearance and survival in the remake ending
With how much I dislike Caleb as Zacks new voice actor you can tell he tried his hardest to deliver the final lines. He delivered the “the price of freedom is steep” line much better in this game than in the Remake

I don't think that's fair to the voice actor and more a result of the voice direction.
You can certainly tell that in the recording booth he was likely told to mimic as much of his predecessors performance as closely as possible (even if that funky 2000's voice acting is not as great by today's standards) instead of trying to sound natural.
I've heard what caleb can sound like when he's given room to work, so i expect his role in remake trilogy to be a major step up.
This was the first and only game to ever make me cry. Never was a fan FFVII but playing this and becoming a big fan of Zack’s character leading up this hopeless fight was saddening.

I know damn well I'm not the only one that still cries at the ending even for this remake. But for the first time, I cried with joy when he returned in the original remake. But even after all these years, this scene alone tears me apart

But we already know the Sephiroth in the Remake is the one that experienced already a final death, he manipulates the lifestream to change his fate.

The one of FF7 remake well as you must see there is a lot of thing that wasn't the same as the original, because Sephiroth try to change the destiny (he probably know what will happens so he could be the Sephiroth from Advent Children that manage to came to the past for his purpose) so the Zack on FF7 remake is probably the one that get his destiny change in the timeline remake

I don't know why so many fans are down on our newbie Zack-voice, whose name escapes me at the moment. I think he did a great job. Yes, Rick Gomez is one of a kind, but the new guy did well too. That last scene with Cody was beautiful, the little changes in Zack's voice as he speaks at the end are great, I think.
He really nailed zachs voice here. Sadly I can't agree no matter what on his original debut. I cringed really bad when I heard his squeaky "the price of freedom is steeep" way better now in this wfene
He definitely improved here compared to the Remake. Especially his Price of Freedom line before the final fight. In the original take in FFVIIR it sounded pretty bad. If I were to describe it, in the Remake he sounded like “Ugh, I guess I have to do this” and just very smug, while the original Crisis Core (and now Reunion) actually sounded like Zack was preparing for the inevitable while remaining confident in his beliefs until the end. Caleb Pierce did such a good job with the line in this case.
Caleb has some good lines man. I wish he kept a serious tone like Rick did. He nails it in all of the quiet scenes.
When that DMW got stuck on Aerith, man I was balling tears. I would never forget how hard I took Zack’s death when I played this on the PSP years ago. This was the first PlayStation game I cried to from the death of a character.

The sad part is that I’ve played the OG Crisis Core more than once, I’m more than familiar with the ending, and yet during the final sequence I still fought for my life spamming Potions and Curaga 😭😭

I saw Final Fantasy Advent Children before playing this gem of a game on the PSP. After the game I finally understood who the person was at the ending - being the spirit of Zack.

I have this game for psp still, always impressed how amazing looks for a portable console and its ending is one of the best in ff saga, also the saddest, love this ff so much.
I'm here hoping that they implemented the 7R's ending by actually killing everything the Shinra Army can throw at you, because Zack's death was considered destiny and that's broken
There is an important buff to the badassery of Zack Fair’s final stand.
They added helicopter wreckage to the battlefield after the time skip, indicating that he had destroyed them, rather than them leaving because they ran out of fuel necessary to reach a suitable landing site as implied in the Crisis Core ending. Even in the FFVII remake, only a single helicopter’s wreckage is visible.
A place where a hero died, and a hero began his journey.
I never play this game anymore because I don’t want to make him die once again. I couldn’t imagine how many times I had cried after the first time I played that 14 years ago…….just let it rest it peace in my memory now…
I JUST finished this game, and I'm crying. The way they designed the fight against the Shinra infantrymen was genius... it made me feel completely powerless and hopeless, with the limit breaks 'malfunctioning,' and Zack losing his strength. It was brutal seeing the infantrymen shooting him from his point of view. And I'll never hear "The Price of Freedom" the same again.
I don't care what people say; Crisis Core is a great game. They way the executed the ending alone makes this game great, in my eyes. The writers had guts to kill off the player character, and they did it right.

I remember playing this game in PSP. I was very sad for about a week after Zack died. And seeing the remastered version of it and then the ending cinematic when Cloud is above the train then playing FF7 remake after is just beautiful.
Zack is so close to death at the end that Aerith’s pose in the DMW changes.
20:14 I know I’m going to cry later but this scene is one of my favorites it reminds me of advent children I’m glad they added them with this style in the game(talking about the animation not the line)
Anyone else get the impressions that at 34:30, its essentially showing the lifestream pieces of Zack reach Aerith now in the "new" timeline at the spot the original Crisis Core essentially ends at and it's a major point in triggering her awareness that something is in fact off/seems familiar and begins the realization that this is the second coming of events? She would have well noticed his entering the lifestream in the original timeline and i'd imagine re-experiencing such a core trauma is one of the main things tipping her off to having the same "timeline awareness" that Sephiroth has.
Factually there are two timelines now and it's also well demonstrated of certain others awareness' of this (Sephiroth indirectly speaks out to the player breaking the 4th wall referencing things wont go the same way this time, Aerith showing... something.... to Marlene as well as RedXIII prompting flashbacks of sorts, etc.) and frankly i'd have to imagine that eventually when we run into Bugenhagen he's going to be aware that something is going on as well....
IMO Caleb's Zack gradually gets better sounding after he gets the new hair & the buster sword. Almost like there's a maturation process for his entire character. Maybe that's the direction they were going for.
Pre-buster sword = Young, naive, wet-behind-the-ears
With buster sword= More serious sounding, less cheesiness in the delivery

A tip for the new players who didn't know the easiest way to beat genesis here, is get blizzarga change your focus to genesis himself and not the sword, then spam.

Interesting. Although it is pretty clear that remake is a sequel for everything before it, the post credit scene which cloud said "I am cloud, soldier 1st class" told us to continue the story in "Final Fantasy VII" not "Final Fantasy VII Remake"

its a remaster not a remake.
this is the original timeline, not remake's timeline. in remake, zack is shown surviving, but in the original timeline he doesn't.
The reason why it's not part of the remake timeline is that in a cutscene where you see Zack whispers are hovering somewhere and Zack can see it. Here there are no whispers to signify that this follows the remake.
I just finished this game for the first time last night. I always knew it was a tragic tale, but making the player play through the hopeless battle, truly heartbreaking, a little sadistic on the developer’s end.😢
Told myself I would not cry at the ending since I already knew what to expect, and I was doing well at it until Cloud’s scream at the end 😭 Cody delivered that perfectly
I'm totally new to the series, didn't know anything about these characters a few days ago, and OUCH did Zack's death hit so dang hard. For me, part of what drives it home is how, during the entire game, you don't see the characters ever actually bleed from their injuries, even when Cloud gets skewered by Sephiroth. They don't actually show the injuries. But here at the end, for once, the game cuts to Zack, bleeding profusely from the head, riddled with bullet holes, and lying in a pool of his own blood. It's so jarring and painful to see
Jesus Clouds new scream at the end grew about 37lbs worth of balls. It actually jarred me a moment not knowing what to expect when I beat it xD I still had Clouds old scream in my head then this dude reached into his bowels and ripped them out through his esophagus for that scream.
Thank the gods this story was left pure and untouched.

After all as a fan I waited and wished all these years for a Crisis Core Remaster. I'd even go as far as saying Crisis Core is my all-time favorite game. It is what it is.

15 years later, this ending still breaks my heart. Why did they remove Cloud's howling near Zack's body though? This was such a sad and heartbreaking moment, I was surprised they didn't keep this.

Honestly... I don't 100% get all the hate toward the new VA for Zack. Like, I get it, many people prefer Rick Gomez' interpretation, there's definitely a lot to love about it, but I definitely believe a lot of people are being way too harsh toward the new Voice Actor.
Like, let's face it here, The material both Actors had to work with was not great to say the least, Reunion's writing is, for the most part, unchanged compared to OG Crisis Core, and while Rick Gomez definitely managed to make it "work" back then, it was still goddamn awkward in many places.
The way I would describe the "differences" between both VA is: One is meant to sound heroic right from the start, like a typical Shonen protagonists, and the other has for goal to sound more "humane" and "Dorky" rather than heroic.
And let's also not forget that Zack... has always been a goddamn dork, he's not exactly the brightest dude either, BUT he has a Heart of Gold and gives A LOT of shit about his dreams and people he holds dear.
I understand the hate lol. It's so hard to find someone who doesn't entirely hate the new VA tho. He's not perfect but he's decent enough for me. Even if they replaced Caleb with someone else, the reaction would probably remain the same lol.

I think this as well "could" considered to be pre-7remake and at the end of ff7R they jumped to another timeline that Zack lived to be meet them in Rebirth
The stuff with Zack is absolutely on a different timeline, hence why they showed a different design for Stamp the Dog during the changed scene. Zack is still dead on the Remake timeline as Cloud has the Buster Sword and has already set himself as Zack legacy

@@patrickmcgregor5168 I wouldn't be sure of that - a trailer last month showed a scene of Zack talking with a girl (About what would happen if Aerith died, I think) and it showed Cloud sat behind them (Couldn't tell if he was sleeping or unconscious there)
@@fierytigergaming8112 thats still on a different timeline, since Barret and Tifa are dead there too. There are not two Aeriths and Clouds. Cloud is still suffering from Mako Poisoning anyways, which Tifa is supposed to help him with, but she's already dead pm that timeline

This reminds me to the first battle against Zeus in God of War 2, as Kratos and Zack were too injured during this parts, causing that they barely could makes some movements, making them incapable to fight back effectively against Zeus and Shinra troopers, leading that Kratos and Zack were killed in the process.

You guys are so happy to "know" Zack lives in the Remake, what a huge disappointment you'll get when realize this "alive" Zack in the Remake is actually how Cloud perceives the reality. It's his imagination recreating 'what would've been if Zack was alive, this is how he gets to Midgar, this is where he's reunited with Aerith' etc. The blow is about to come down in the Rebirth. This is it, folks, you choose by the ratings either _you_ want Zack alive (good ending) or not (bad ending)

Was really hoping for a secret ending of some sort that ties into Final Fantasy VII Remake. This is a remaster, sure; but so was Final Fantasy Type-0 and we still got “a little something extra” hinting at the future of the game’s universe. The difference with Crisis Core Reunion is that future is already established: we will be seeing an alternate timeline where Zack survived that encounter.
I tried so hard to keep
It together while replaying this remaster but once why and memories of zack went by I lost it 😢

I gotta say, the voice acting and Cloud's scream are a lot less awkward here than in the original.
My only problem with this besides the voice change for Zack is that they also changed the Buster swords design from the original.
Glad the kept the ending true to the original, and not change it.
