1:53 Could you replace the bolts with button-head internal hex bolts? That would give clearance and mimic the stock rivets.
I have a cam to install shortly so I'm tempted to try it.

Aluminum does not burn. Magnesium does, very easily. ALL Aluminum has some amount of Magnesium in it, which may allow it to burn, but it take a considerable amount. VW has not used high amount of Magnesium that will burn since the 60's in any of there products just because of this issue. I'm sure aftermarket product are guess work as to what the material is...

On my pump the idler shaft is part of the gear. When i rebuilt my engine the shaft was hitting the bolts on the cam. Didn't make any sense to me because it was the pump and cam that were in the car to begin with. Then i noticed i could flip that gear around and it fixed my issue. That being said ive never seen another pump like it. I understand it may be really old in the performance world.

Great tip! You'd figure ARP would've made some bolts for that problem. I know it's additional cost but the piece of mind would be worth it.

What do you think about turning down the bolt heads in the lathe?

Building type 4 for a friend using 30 mm type 1 pump as well have just so you know you have to modify bolts. shaft depths and housing on pump in two locations about the same just more interference issues . someone's gotta have type4 oil pumps laying around ... But the direct flow on the 30 mm is in my opinion netter for flow .

If I heard u correctly - for the # 2 bearing u do NOT have to use the full circle bearing !!
It can be replaced with a 2 pc bearing for better wear/fit/performance ?

This problem is non existing with a standard riveted VW camshaft

Liberty Patriot it's a performance cam that was made with the heavier duty bolt vs. a rivet
