@@ARIASPHIL123 did you adjust the carburator the right way? You can find very good videos on that topic. The key point is that you must not adjust idle at the accerlator lever srew. The accerelator lever adjustment screw need to be adjust that the throttle butterfly is fully closed. Than you need to turn out the CO mixture screw (the small one on the left) 3 turns out. And next you only adjust your idle with the idle mixture bypass screw (the big adjusting screw on the left) the solex 34pict-3 actually is a different kind of carburator than most. It works the same as a weber idf carb. Idle mixture is feed by a bypass idle circuit, NOT via the trottle butterfly. Also check if your shut off valve opens when turing your power on. If ist broken and doesn't work you can just cut of the plunjer with plyers and running it without.
Its possible the iginition is dampt en the points arend working niceley. My beetle with 1600 runs also verry bad the first 10 minutes when im driving away now, and its also misfireing in the iginition. But when she is warm up then she runs just normal.
daalhoffarm could incorrect ignition timing cause the engine to stall while idling? There's a bit of a hesitation while I accelerate and sometimes it stalls while idling.
A lot of stock vw engines run like crap because the manifold pre heater tube is clogged with carbon. Then the answer is a new manifold and a days work fitting it. Depending on the amount of usage and short trips, sitting stuck in city traffic and running a bit rich at the carb all speed up the blockage carbon buildup.Watch out for this problem as it Kills Power. A quick check is to run the car for ten minutes and feel if one side of the manifold pipe is wayy hotter than the other side.I find kerosene helps to clean out a blocked preheated but its a nasty job, wear gloves!
I connected my test lamp to the negative side of the coil yet the test lamp is constantly lit no matter what way I turn the distributor. Any idea why this would be it's a 1969 vw bug 1600cc
Cyrus Stothard Dear, are you sure you got the - 1 terminal? Then check if the points do open or stay closed. Renew the condensator at the distributor if not solved.
Cyrus Stothard does the points spark when rotating? The ligt only goes of when the make the right contact. Try sand the points with 400 or higher grid, or a point fial.
This motor look fairly new, so I have no faith in what I just saw. I done what these videos teach and absolute fail.all my beetles and busses have original motors and these tricks don't work.
POINTS SUCK!Why do you mechanics think that this is ok all the time?Does anyone of you still stuck in the obsolete engines that have points in them today.?
I never knew you could static time with the distributor cap off. 🤣 Sets my mind at ease because I timed once and it backfired and never got over it.
THANK YOU! My 74 runs like a champ now!
Exactly the type of video i was looking for. Explained perfectly for us newbies!! Thank you so much
Thank you. This video is so useful. Very good explanation.
where can i get a rubber cover that you had under the distributor cap ? i can not find them anywhere
feeler gauge could be 0.45? any diferrence? i got everything new
Thanks for information . Running perfect now......a great help..thanks again
Great video!
Hi I have a vw beetle with 1600 dual port engine the I having hard time with doesn’t idle. Basically won’t stay on. Any ideas
Can you tell me what you already tried and if its a rebuilt or a older engine?
@@daalhoffarm I bough the engine used. I have try cleaning carburator Install new on. New points. Nd try to adjust timing

Why is it that last week it was right (TDC & rotor set to the "1" position) but now that I check this week it's 180 degrees opposite?
Maybe late for you after 2 years, but for newer readers:
You turn the pulley 1 whole round again.
2 pulley rounds = 1 rotor round
what should i set the feeler gage to
Ian Carlos .40 mm
In a 72 ghia with vacuum advance, what is the setting? Im not running a 009
3:14 I like that jump.
how do you know how many RPM without a tac?
where do u connect that testing bulbe wire other side to..?
one side to the negative of the coil and the other side to the ground of the car. just on metal.
Nice jump
Could this be the reason why my car starts wobbley and won't idle in snowy weather? Thanks for the upload.

John Collins "Then the answer is a new manifold" Umm... I think the answer is to clean out the current one
very helpful.
Thank you... Great tutorial.....

daalhoffarm wether the points are open or not the light stays lit. I've tried connecting to both sides of the coil to be sure

I've done all of this. The condenser doesn't look to great so I may replace that
Die "checker" waar heb je die vandaan? en die kun je ook voor bougies gebruiken toch?
very helpfull thanks dude
Thanks for sharing, subbed. 👏👏
you dont have a vacuum advance and are running a 009 so you should be timing at full advance with a timing light.

Not really helpful sorry
