There's absolutely zero indication that calling the police is futile. Nothing (at least so far) implies that the game only lasts 12 minutes. The real police could get there after him and still be useful. Calling the cops is absolutely the right call, given what information we have so far.
@@IcyAuron why else would the game be called 12 Minutes? The average loop barely lasts 8 minutes, and clearly overall gameplay is a lot longer than 12 minutes.

@@waterdragon3367 True, interesting point. But I think the shock did not lead to a restart, because it's not that powerful like the pills. The cop stands up like 15 seconds after shocking. Regarding the self-defense part, the term MatPat was trying to remember is the "Castle doctrine". Castle doctrine posits that a person's house is their castle, and if someone breaks into your house, you can defend it, even using deadly force. This is different from "stand-your-ground" which is a type of law that limits your "duty to retreat" and allows self defense even using deadly force in areas other than your own house (for example if you get mugged on the street). Of course, these laws vary wildly depending on jurisdiction, so certainly look up the laws in your own area. But MatPat is correct in the assumption that "Castle doctrine" is very widely supported, at least in the US.

It’s so funny when you see someone talk to the wife and treat her well to gain her trust and unlock the story vs Mattpat trying to drug her over and over because she’s just an obstacle to his character lol
If he goes straight for the closet he might just be able to hide out for the whole game, she always says she never heard him come in. Then she wouldn’t give him up and the “cop” wouldn’t be suspicious either like when she was drugged. So if Matpat is able to run to the closet and close the door before she leaves the bathroom he might have a chance of just waiting it out, but that’s just a theory. A GAME theory.
Its not that hard to explain the ending and what it means for the whole story. But maby he would find other theory's, then the one the true ending is implying
I like it when people try to brute force it and take hours to figure out you need the story. Rubberross did the same and stabbed himself right away then stabbed the wife the next time just to see what would happen.
If ya want a game in the same air, try Elsinore. You play as Ophelia in hamlet and try to prevent the events of the play. The progress log makes it better for a completion standpoint, as well as fast forward and pause. There are plenty of funny logic scenarios like telling characters their fates.
Personally I think he should add this on the list of games he should play including kotor 2 (as I want to see him do a game theory episode on it as more lore rich that isn’t told like a rpg)
why did this make me laugh- it's so stupid that it's funny thank the heavens that he figured out you ain't supposed to do that (I think, correct me if I'm wrong)
I think the initial plan was based on thinking that the 'cop' would have to wait for them to wake up and the sleeping pills would last long enough for the real police to arrive? Idk
I don’t think you die from one tapping but it’s that you get unconscious and the space time continuum doesn’t allow you to exist beyond your twelve minutes
I'd love to see a theory on this game. I love it so far and the theory material is flourishing *Edit:* 48:09 Is the phone glitching out? I think so. The story thickens~
I clicked. I rewound five seconds. If the supposed glitch is a hint, can you let us know it's a spoiler? Otherwise, I checked a couple times and didn't see the glitch.
The key is information. Too early with the schemes is all I'm saying. It's very easy to go around in circles in this game. You can't build a house without enough material. It's like he's already working on the walls before completed the foundation. Entertaining to watch tho :P Always interesting how people thinks and coming to conclusions so differently. And like the people have already pointed out to Mat: The game is called TWELVE MINUTES, so the cops he calls will never show up since they need 15 minutes to arrive xD The facepalm when he finally realize it (hopefully at the start of the next one) xD
Actually, he DID figure it out. He called BUMBLEBEE, instead of the cops. Of course, I want to see him run a round where he's telling EVERYONE about his resets. He tells the cops, he tells his wife, he tells Bumblebee... I'm just curious what would happen.
To everyone complaining that MatPat hasn't realized the game is called 12 Minutes and not 15 minutes: It is very common in humans to be aware of two pieces of information and still not connect them in any way. I blame MirrorMat for not pointing it out lol
I don’t think you _die_ when you take the sleeping pills, I just think you sleep for so long that the time loop resets again. Edit: I also don’t think you die from head but, but your unconscious and the time loop resets before you wake up (you could’ve died too, head buts can be deadly!)
Mat, drag over different parts of the body next time. It said "Torso" when you dragged the gun over. It said "Zipped Handcuffs." It's not over just the person entirely.
I just watched the first one and was like, "oh, it was 4 days ago, it will probably be a while until the next one" well, glad I was wrong!!! Thank you so much for this
I like how as soon as Matpat said something about tidying up, My siblings had left PBS kids on the TV and right as Matpat said that PBS kids was explaining the meaning of tidy.
Please Help MatPat see this by up voting to save him a lot of time getting to the next small step in the story. No Spoilers. 1. The police never arrive due to the loop timer (12 minutes) calling them is useless 2. Leaving the apartment always resets the loop 3. The vent in the bedroom is useless (to my knowledge) and does nothing 4. Leave the front door open so you don't have to wait for the guy to break it down while you're hiding 5. Hide in the closet at the start, before your wife sees you. This way she thinks you're not there. Stay there until the man leaves. This will unlock the next of many other things needed to complete the game. The lore is very deep and you have barely scratched the surface. It can take you 10 to 30 hours/episodes to complete this game. 2 hours if you know exactly what to do! (Have MirrorMat watch a playthrough so he can help provide hints in case you need them.)

I enjoy these streams, but holy cow, there needs to be someone else on the couch with Matt. He overthinks things into oblivion and somehow misses the point of so many interesting games by trying “outsmart the system.” This is why he has a great time with very meta games that DO reward you for playing unconventionally, but some games are JUST games… and you need to learn the gameplay mechanics to play.
I am the same way. Its difficult for me to play most games without a guide or someone to bounce ideas off of. Since I have aspergers, a second opinion from a person whose brain isn't wired differently from the norm helps a lot.
Honestly I think he's playing the game pretty well and it's entertaining to watch. People are being mean to mat, if you don't like you should just watch other play throughs
Well I guess there’s one tip I can give without giving spoilers: Survive by processing the story. You heard earlier (and by that I mean in the previous vid) that the wife gets a call from someone else who tells her about the cop. Find a way to not be there when she gets that call. Maybe that might help in a way…
I wonder when Mat will realize that it's all about uncovering information. Good and bad decisions don't matter at this time. It took them 1.5 videos to learn that 12 < 15.
Two hints to Matt and anyone else playing this game with a similar brain. 1. You can end a loop early by just leaving the apartment. 2. Remember how your wife always say "I didn't hear you come in", that is a hint that you can use if you are tired of the fact that she screams for your help when she is handcuffed and/or you want to see what happens when the intruder and your wife has no idea you are in the apartment.
tbh at this rate i don't see matpat finishing the game in less than a year lol unless mirror matt watches a walkthrough and can nudge matpat towards progressing the story when necessary
We all now, how good you are at these kind of games, but this one is really really hard to solve completely without help. Some steps are very hard to find out. I am so curious, if you can solve it without help, because you are like one the smartest gamers on RUclips.
"what's the legislation for Mi casa es no su casa?" haha. MatPat is quite the Detective w/ taking down repeat day-info for solving mystery! Flawless Boston accent oh my gosh, this banter is the best
My theory on why the loop resents when you get hit by the cop or fall asleep with the drugs is that you don't die, you just pass out and don't wake back up in time during the current loop so it skips ahead to the next one.
I know there's multiple routes in this game, I don't think the route Matpat wants exists 😅 or at least the game is driving him away from that P.s. I don't think the 15 minute police rescue is going to arrive in the game called 12 minutes
37:05 Matt, the watch is necessary to progress the plot on your first run, the wife was about to reveal the location of the watch as you got choked out
Matt, you keep assuming you died, but it could be someone is trying to prevent something horrible happening to your wife. Life because of your unconsciousness, some entity is reverting time. It would explain when you left the room, it restarted. Edit: this was written before 50:00 where Matt learns survival isn't what its about
36:55 Mat, there is no ending with the police, you never last 15 minutes. Ever. Every actual ending either has got to do with the watch or the info you get by interrogating the cop when he's in handcuffs, there is no ending where you get out of this with the police.
I think you don't need to hear this, but just in case. If it seems like, the game ends you should continue playing. Because at some point the game makes it look like, that its over. But you have to continue to find the true ending, which leads to a full credit scene (not just the few names you already saw at the beginning of the game in the clock).
I'm a twee bit confused about Matt locking the door every time, which only means that he has to wait for him to break down the door. I also wonder if we are missing a hiding place where the watch is, maybe it is hidden in the vent and there is an item combo that will fish it out.
"I don't care about the effing watch!" Risky for MatPat. I love how he becomes a bit rougher around the edges without Steph. Matty Baddy is starting to come out and play. Also: Castle Doctrine.
Watching them play this, while knowing about the game is one of the most entertaining yet extremely frustrating thing ever!😅 But tbh, we only know about the game because of other playthroughs, and they're completely blind. But seriously, Mat, I'll just tell you this *"YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITHOUT SOLVING THE FREAKING LORE!"* 😄 (to clarify this is in a joking tone, not a mean one)

I said this last time too! I'm glad I'm not the only one who picked up on that, I hope he tries it so we can see if it works!

I just love how Mat starts laughing like a maniac right after killing a man and saying that it’s the best game ever
I hope Matt does a theory on the game, I'd loved to see a video about it.
the theory he would do is about the ending
Yes this is a confusing game we need it explained
Its not that hard to explain the ending and what it means for the whole story. But maby he would find other theory's, then the one the true ending is implying
there is seemingly a lot to uncover. what is at first just a game about a random intruder turns into something way twistier
@@Phillip161 Hm, he could always do a 'what is the message of this' type thing.
Matt:* Accidentally stabs the “cop” *
Ten seconds later
Matt: * Dying of laughter on camera *
i mean i would laugh too especially IRL
Very true
It’s so funny to watch people’s train of thought/reasoning while playing this. 😂😂😂
YES great game
@@sebastiangibson9671 I like your picture 😊
The initial plan was based on thinking that a robber/killer would walk away because he saw both targets sleeping?
why did this make me laugh-
it's so stupid that it's funny
thank the heavens that he figured out you ain't supposed to do that (I think, correct me if I'm wrong)
I think the plan was that he would at least survive, I don’t think mat at this points understands that if 12 minutes pass the game resets
I love it so far and the theory material is flourishing
*Edit:* 48:09 Is the phone glitching out? I think so. The story thickens~
I dont see anything
@@anavanessa3896 it’s right at the stamp rewind like 5 seconds
I clicked. I rewound five seconds. If the supposed glitch is a hint, can you let us know it's a spoiler? Otherwise, I checked a couple times and didn't see the glitch.
I think it's just to draw your attention to the number so you think about calling them
That was just the number getting smaller because he scrolled down
29:09 lol matpat was supposed to do that earlier, but he was like: “problem, I must solve” and didn’t think to ever leave the apartment lol
40:15 he has realised that already
@@harshrai1251 TY! People be complaining without realizing he figured it out smh
To everyone complaining that MatPat hasn't realized the game is called 12 Minutes and not 15 minutes:
It is very common in humans to be aware of two pieces of information and still not connect them in any way. I blame MirrorMat for not pointing it out lol
Do we need to start a blame mirror Matt hash tag.
MirrorMat does point this out around the 40:15 minute mark
mirror mat did point it out and matpat still said "idk though" it's so funny 😭
I don’t think you _die_ when you take the sleeping pills, I just think you sleep for so long that the time loop resets again.
Edit: I also don’t think you die from head but, but your unconscious and the time loop resets before you wake up (you could’ve died too, head buts can be deadly!)
Mat, drag over different parts of the body next time. It said "Torso" when you dragged the gun over. It said "Zipped Handcuffs."
It's not over just the person entirely.
same with the gun
Mat: does nothing
Cop: fights back
Mat: :0
the killer don't do anything stupid mat stabbed him 🔪🤣🤣so funny
Matpat 2021: "I wish I could drag her into the bedroom."
I just watched the first one and was like, "oh, it was 4 days ago, it will probably be a while until the next one" well, glad I was wrong!!!
Thank you so much for this
You gave the intruder a false hope of survival when you said that you would do what he says. It was pretty freaking hilarious
1. The police never arrive due to the loop timer (12 minutes) calling them is useless
2. Leaving the apartment always resets the loop
3. The vent in the bedroom is useless (to my knowledge) and does nothing
4. Leave the front door open so you don't have to wait for the guy to break it down while you're hiding
I agree with this idea, I commented the same thing before I read through the comments.
If anyone has more tips for MatPat, comment them here

that was my first thought. the man would (probably) be confused, get up, and check the closet because the game hates you. never tried it though, so-
MatPat mixing up imminent domain and castle doctrine is peak GTLive.
I enjoy these streams, but holy cow, there needs to be someone else on the couch with Matt. He overthinks things into oblivion and somehow misses the point of so many interesting games by trying “outsmart the system.”
This is why he has a great time with very meta games that DO reward you for playing unconventionally, but some games are JUST games… and you need to learn the gameplay mechanics to play.
I am the same way. Its difficult for me to play most games without a guide or someone to bounce ideas off of. Since I have aspergers, a second opinion from a person whose brain isn't wired differently from the norm helps a lot.
I miss Steph 😟
Definitely… miss Steph more now :(
Honestly I think he's playing the game pretty well and it's entertaining to watch.
People are being mean to mat, if you don't like you should just watch other play throughs
Mirror Matt does a good job of being a second voice.
Well I guess there’s one tip I can give without giving spoilers: Survive by processing the story. You heard earlier (and by that I mean in the previous vid) that the wife gets a call from someone else who tells her about the cop. Find a way to not be there when she gets that call. Maybe that might help in a way…
Mat Pat, you should pay more attention to where you are pointing the mouse on the screen, there are a lot of small hit boxes.
I wonder when Mat will realize that it's all about uncovering information. Good and bad decisions don't matter at this time. It took them 1.5 videos to learn that 12 < 15.
yep he did at some point in the stream (way to lazy to find the time stamp ahahha)
I’m so glad you managed to get another episode of this so soon! Thank you so much Matpat and mirror Matt!
I really want MatPat to continue on with this series! Watching him playing this is a load of fun!
what happens if you hide in the closet before she finds out you're home and let the "cop" interrogate her? you might learn more that way
"I'm not interested in the truth, I want to live!"

oh my gosh, this banter is the best
1:03:30 "I don't know what this woman has done to you in the past, brother..."
Me: Oh boy if only you knew.
A lot of the comments about the title of the game seem to fail to realize the loop is only ten minutes. It starts at :00 and ends at :10
So…? does it change their argument for mat trying to call the police and waiting 15min
I noticed that… whyyy though ? Only certain times get to 12?
My theory on why the loop resents when you get hit by the cop or fall asleep with the drugs is that you don't die, you just pass out and don't wake back up in time during the current loop so it skips ahead to the next one.
Yeah
I feel an analysis/deduction game may not be the easiest for a guy who's career is based on over analyzing.
I know there's multiple routes in this game, I don't think the route Matpat wants exists 😅 or at least the game is driving him away from that
P.s. I don't think the 15 minute police rescue is going to arrive in the game called 12 minutes
he figured out the 15mins thing wayyyyy more further into the stream, so I think we're good next stream
40:00 I think he figured it out, I’m pretty sure he was just overthinking it.
37:05
Matt, the watch is necessary to progress the plot
on your first run, the wife was about to reveal the location of the watch as you got choked out
not only is it called 12 minutes and that the police tell him it will take 15 minutes BUT the character says "We can't wait 15 minutes"

Matt, you keep assuming you died, but it could be someone is trying to prevent something horrible happening to your wife. Life because of your unconsciousness, some entity is reverting time. It would explain when you left the room, it restarted.

@@Hazbin-hotel-babe no he just over thinks everything
36:55 Mat, there is no ending with the police, you never last 15 minutes. Ever. Every actual ending either has got to do with the watch or the info you get by interrogating the cop when he's in handcuffs, there is no ending where you get out of this with the police.

I think you don't need to hear this, but just in case. If it seems like, the game ends you should continue playing. Because at some point the game makes it look like, that its over. But you have to continue to find the true ending, which leads to a full credit scene (not just the few names you already saw at the beginning of the game in the clock).
these kinda games always makes me question just how smart matt is. the game is literally called 12 minutes for a reason.

Hey you can target specific body parts of the cop with items when he's tied up!
"Hey, how'd your father die" was said in such an amazing way
I'm a twee bit confused about Matt locking the door every time, which only means that he has to wait for him to break down the door. I also wonder if we are missing a hiding place where the watch is, maybe it is hidden in the vent and there is an item combo that will fish it out.
