A “secret” of a tool isn’t true. Should be: come watch my inability to grab the correct tool when the one I have isn’t working. Watch me waste your time.
Welcome to Alva Welding channel! Thanks so much for watching our video. Wish you all the best
Completely agree. It’s not a secret of a tool when you had to do all that to it.
Spot on!
You should be kinder, I think he is third world...
I agree, just get a bigger wrench. Stupidity at work here
That's pretty inventive. HOWEVER, I think the hole was to HANG IT from a nail on the wall to easily locate and use later
eye level, please, my workmate can't find f.....k all unless it's eye level. no teenagers bedroom with all on the floor!!
Thank you for sharing your feedback and expressing your perspective
The adjustable wrench was invented for electricians to have a one tool option to fit different size lug bolts. the smooth edged hole is for bending larger gauge conductors so the insulation doesn't get damaged.
Thanks for that- more useful than the actual video😂😂😂
No, the hole at the end is a fingerhole used for spinning the wrench in and out of your tool belt like a gunslinger...
Wouldn’t it have just been easier to go back to your tool box and get the bigger wrench?😊
The labor involved in this stupid trick. I could have spent that time to make more than enough money to buy any tool I needed for the job.
😊

@@Alvawelding20Do you have a pipe wrench?
Except this is not the place for a pipe wrench. Clearly, the correct size open ended wrench is what is needed. Jesus h, this isn’t complicated.

@@Cam-vz3le Huh? You’re high. I’m not advocating for destroying anything. I’m not sure you know what a pipe wrench is or what it’s intended use is.

Knuckle buster wrench.

This is just sheer madness, cutting the hole of an adjustable wrench and spoiling it. Instead you can use a pipe wrench or chain wrench.
I agree
Yes, but what if you're a contestant on Naked and Afraid, you have to survive in the wilderness and you're only allowed to bring one tool? They won't allow you to bring a Crescent wrench AND a pipe wrench.

The rule "right tool for the right job" applies here. I have a Knipex adjustable pliers in my box that would work just fine here.
Cutting up and modifying my nice wrenches that I've had for many years would break my heart.
There is absolutely no reason to cut up a perfectly good wrench when an open end wrench in your tool box would fit perfectly, but then you're way too lazy to go looking for that open end wrench.
What if he didn't have the tool. Just watch and learn. Not all tools are created equal. Just like men aren't. Some of you listen to your woman too much.
@@aaronchavez8511 He had a roller chain, a drill, and a grinder, but he didn’t have a wrench, a channel lock pliers, or a pipe wrench?
💯 true
I am a marine engineer, and that shifter I will never cut up like that. My chief will skin me alive......😮😮.
Though we do have that chain type wrench in some ships. I have seen it. Useful in tricky places...🙏

Or you can buy a bicycle tool that does the same thing, it's for the rear gear set
I understand that you didn't find this idea helpful, and I appreciate you sharing your perspective
Hello! thanks for your recommendation. Wish you all the best!
Some people are so closed minded, this would really help on big jobs where there's a shortage of chain vice grips. As boilermakers we could make up as many of these as we needed because there's never a shortage of Cresent wrenches
This tool has existed for countless years, in some places it is called "pipe wrench", in others "chain wrench", and in others "clamp wrench" and it is widely used in both mechanics and plumbing!
For us with arthritis it's known as a jar opener too. 😂
@@Bobbysheresomewhere Good sense of humor, but as much as that, to open the blinking jars we use the classic utensil that is a can opener, corkscrew, and bottle opener! But everything is valid! Greetings 😁👌

The only alteration I've done to a crescent wrench is welding a cut off 1/2" drive socket to the handle. I've always had a 1/2" drive breaker bar and never have to look for a cheater pipe. Works great. Did it in 1996 working on otr trucks. 👍

Good on you for making a tool that others would simply go and buy. I have a set of Vise-grip with a chain on it- the one you made will work just as well.
Welcome to Alva Welding channel! Thank you so much for your comment! have a nice day!
I just wasted precious minutes hoping to find something useful, unique or smart. For anyone doing that type of work and not having a chain wrench should not be doing such work.
Basically half assed butchered an old wrench. Should have cleaned the wrench up and oiled it. Then went a bought the correct tool
3 minutes o& my life I won’t get back?!
Not everyone can go out and buy a new tool . I think it was a great idea and may make one .
FongKong shit(Chinese mods)
Yeah man. I thought that wrench can be used as it is. Not everyone can do a modification like that. Basically that hole is for hanging the tool itself.
It would be easier to just go to the nearest tool center and purchase a larger wrench.
Thank you for sharing your feedback and expressing your perspective
Some people are naturally handy and like to invent things (with parts or material that they found and never used, for example).
I thought about something for my air conditioner this week, and it works.
And if the nearest tool centre is a two hour drive away?
...or farther?? yeah....BTDT improvise, overcome, adapt!!! OOHHRAH!!@@jackfrost2146

Clever! Now you only carry one wrench in the toolbox. Years ago, I worked in a custom fabrication shop. We modified tools all the time to fit job specific needs. We even had a bone yard of old worn-out power and machine tools that we would use to build custom job specific power and machine tools. It was a third-generation business; lots of old worn-out tools to tinker with.

Chain tongs easier than throwing the chain 👍🏻
Interesting! The title is misleading because it implies that the hole was intended by the manufacturer for that use. Fabrication of a crescent wrench end into a chain wrench is what actually happened. I as a former mechanic have likewise fabricated tools at times, so kudos to Alva Welding for his creativity. I have used that end of a crescent wrench for increased leverage on a tight bolt by slipping the hole over a jaw of the open end of a combination open end and boxed end wrench. You can also use another wrench to do this by putting the boxed end of it over one of the jaws of the wrench being turned.

A bigger wrench would do it as the experts point out in comments, but this actually looks very useful for my present problem: getting the nut for the front shock absorber off a strut. Can't use heat, the nut is not of proper shape for a wrench (has some flat surfaces, special tool was meant to be used which i don't have). Definitely going to try this.
