One thing I absolutely love about you is that you are respectful and supportive of everyone where they are in their journey. I love when you say its ok to use All purpose flour and White sugar when you are in the transition phase.
Gee, Mary, memories. Another lifetime ago, before we even had children, (😳my eldest is almost 44!😳), I hosted a Tupperware party. In those days, you’d get steak knifes, etc household items for hosting, not the Tupperware as is received today. Anyway, long story longer, I received two cookbooks, “Make A Mix Cookery” and “More Make A Mix Cookery”. Still have them! Love how you’re teaching a whole new generation, or, two, I suppose, how to have nutritious, on-hand mixes, that don’t cost a major portion of their food budgets, as store-bought mixes do. Wonderful! Especially during this pandemic and ensuing lock-down and social isolation , a blessing in disguise, as women and men are, so often, cooking more often with the kids in their lives! Love it! Thank you, Mary!
I just made the hot chocolate mix. The only thing I did differently is I added cinnamon to the mix. It is good for controlling blood sugar and my kids love the flavor. I am also going to make a sugar-free version for my Mom. Basically, everything, but the sugar. That way she can enjoy/sweeten it with agave when she wants a cup, without spiking her blood sugar. I have made hot chocolate mixes every year, but never thought to blend/powder the sugar. It makes a HUGE difference!! It mixes beautifully with no more grainy residue. Thank you, Mary for sharing your wisdom and genuine joy for cooking. With all the horrible things happening in our world right now, your can-do attitude has helped me recover my joy.
I'm watching from very humid N. Louisiana. Thank you for sharing these recipes and explaining about the silica gel packs. I've seen them in all kinds of dry food and supplement products but it never occurred to me to buy some to use in homemade mixes. I've made creamer and hot cocoa mixes for gifts (that didn't taste as good as yours) and hoped the recipients used it up in time before it started clumping or worse. Thank you, again!
Just found your channel yesterday because I've decided to make my hall closet in to a pantry. I'm so glad I did, I've binge watched so many of your videos. Just wanted to leave a message saying thanks for the great videos, lots of love, some random Scottish woman 😂❤
Love the thought of pre made mixes. Wish I could do this with my Keto lifestyle almond flour, coconut flour, flax seed meal, & powdered swerve or monk fruit! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Mary for having the recipes so that they could be printed out. This saved me a lot of time. I think that i will make these mixes and give them to my daughters for Christmas along with a copy of the printed recipes. Thank you so much for your wonderful cooking videos, I love watching them.
Have been doing this for some of my recipes for a while. When I make gingerbread or a cake, I will put together all the dry ingredients while everything is out for several recipes of that same item. Then it’s easy to make something special with less mess and time.
This is absolutely wonderful! Thank you so much. I have tried and love the cream soup. You have helped me prepare for uncertain times, which makes me feel more prepared as well as saving money. What did I do without you?
Mary, Mary, Mary, you are wholeheartedly appreciated for all of your videos. Always informative, educational, and sweetly wholesome love. I did read several of the comments looking for the question about substituting with homemade brown sugar/light brown sugar, would it cause any problems? due to that it has molasses and molasses is moist. May you and your loved ones enjoy a spectacular summer season.
Bless you! One of my 'pet peeves' about cooking/baking, is all of the steps involved in getting anything from concept to plate. It can be overwhelming to me before I even pull out a bowl. While I can spend hours at a computer researching and writing reports, the idea of spending an hour in the kitchen gives me agita. These mixes will certainly ease my anxiety a great deal!
I was scouring the internet for an easy make ahead brownie mix, and decided to instead look on youtube, and there you were to the rescue again! I should have thought to look at your site first. You're the best!
I think you and your family are just delightful. I love all that you do and I have been so inspired to make many things you make video on. My family thinks I am amazing and I refer them to your videos. I also share them on facebook because I think you are incredible. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It is really appreciated
I've been making a list of your recipes to make on a day off when I can't work outside! These will be great to add to my pantry!! Love your videos. So uplifting and useful 💜
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us all. I have learned so much from you and don't have to worry if it is approved, or a good recipe. You are helping people get prepared and easy ways to do things, shortcuts and so on and I so appreciate it! Bless you and please keep sharing your great tips and how to instructions. These videos are well needed in this day and time.
I love all your videos and I appreciate so much that you always emphasize to use what we have. So many new cooks or those of us who are so used to relying on so many store-bought items, we aren't sure which substitutes are ok to make and which ones may not work so this is so very appreciated from a knowledge and budget standpoint. Very thankful I found your channel.
I am so glad you have shared this with us. It will be such a help. I would enjoy seeing a video where you use these mixes in making each item. Especially how you use the one that is an All purpose mix.
I would love to see you put all these recipes and ideas and everything that you have into a book I’m not even kidding I think I’d buy a dozen bucks and give them to every single family member I have love your channel I’m learning a lot and I’m changing the way that I’m getting thanks thank you so much
I really enjoying your homemade mixes especially the cornbread one you .entioned you use stone ground cornmeal ,where can I find this ? What kind do you use? Thankyou just learning..
Hi Mary! Thanks so much for sharing your healthy recipes. I took white flour out of my pantry many years ago, and have made a similar biscuit mix but I love the addition of the natural sugar over processed. I I learned about the natural sugar from your coffee creamer video, and I am so excited to try those out! Thanks again. Your videos are fantastic.
Ohhhhh Mary ❤️ Thank You ever so much for this video ❤️ I just received my order of six 1/2 gallon jars! I know what I will be using them for!! You are one amazing lady 💐🌸🌺🌼🌹🌻 I love each and every one of your videos 🎊🎇✨🌟💫 Blessings from Green, Ohio 🌺
I just discovered you and absolutely love your channel!! I grew up on a self sufficient farm with parents and grandparents that nurtured skills like this in me. I love that its making a comeback! But I have a question for you. I make my biscuits with self rising flour. 2ish cups with salt, crisco and buttermilk. How would I sub out the self rising? Like what would 1 cup of self rising be equivalent to whole grain flour plus BP + BS?
Definitely. For these mixes, I wanted to leave out the fats - even if saturated - because they would moisten the whole grains shortening the grains shelf life. So happy you liked these recipes! Love, Mary
My objective is to get long term shelf stable (not 6 mo, more like 6 yrs :) so Im glad to see this can be done with the mylar bags. How long will these mixes last in mylar w/oxygen absorbers? thx!
@@lindakean7392 Hi! YEARS & YEARS!!! Waaaay beyond your six years. Some say 30-50 years if properly stored. I just remembered I had this in my saved video playlist. Here is an excellent video to help you understand the entire process. She explains it very well. She puts her leftover o2 absorbers in a jar. I reseal mine using a food saver with the food saver bags. I also use the hair iron. It's fantastically convenient. I hope this helps. ruclips.net/video/7rC80DafNWs/видео.html
@@MsBeachLizard Yes I have seen those videos and have mylars that I havent used yet. Im a little intimidated by the process! Wasnt sure if oxygen absorbers or silica packs should be used with Marys make ahead mixes.. Im guessing silica since there is milk in there??
@@lindakean7392 No problem! No fear! Just jump in 🤗 Use BOTH! The o2 absorbers prevent spoilage by removing oxygen, which in turn keeps out microorganisms (mold, bacteria, yeast), and bug-type pests. Pests cannot breed-much less survive-in an anaerobic environment. Oxygen absorbers can also help with the moisture, but that is the sole purpose of the desiccant packs. However, note that food grade desiccants will *not* control microorganisms. So use both. (Just don’t use o2 absorbers in sugars, baking soda/powder.) The silica must be *food grade.* Just make sure whatever you store, store it in a cool and dark place where nothing can get to it. If there is even a question about possible pests-or if you are storing a lot at one time-put your Mylar bags in a tote with the lid. Have fun!
I do enjoy your posts. I don't put sugar or any kind of sweetener in my pancakes, biscuits, or cornbread. They are all from scratch. I will be making up the pre-mixtures just for the ease of it. Thanks for the idea.
If you want to avoid powdered milks can you add liquid milks on a per batch use tell me more please.Thank you Mary.Interested in Nova Scotia on the All purpose baking mix.
Hi Mary , i really enjoy these type of youtubes as i am trying to get a heap of mixes made for the pantry where i just have to add the liquid so trying to find dry meals in a jar if your going to do any of those that would be brilliant , i have dried veggies ready to make a few meals :) Thankyou for sharing .
Wondering if you’d be willing to do your recipes in grams as well as cups. That’s one thing I love about King Arthur: the option. I guess it would be a LOT more work for you….and I get it! No worries. It was just a thought as I watched this before I do these this coming week. I printed them out when you first posted….and am just getting around to making them. Thank you so very, very much for your expertise and love for others’ health and well-being. ❤️
Hi Mary new to your channel just want to say a big thank you for this video, was looking for some healthier mixes to add to my pantry.I just made the brownie mix and made some brownie with the mix it was delicious I added more butter for a softer brownie consistency my husband really enjoyed it with icecream. Thanks for sharing.
Hi sweet friend I love every thing you make. I am exactly like you! I do make everything the way you make your food! I love your RUclips channel Me and my granddaughter god bless you for everything you do 😍
I also make chocolate chip cookie/ oatmeal raisin mixes, cake mixes, banana bread, and flour tortilla mixes. I use a black sharpie to write on the jar.
Something else you may find very helpful is to put the mixes in the freezer to kill any hidden bug before they hatch. You may want to store them in the freezer as well. I just had a whole bag of barley flour go buggy and I live in the Greater San Antonio area so I am not that far from you. Thank you for teaching people to make healthier foods.
I love your videos. You have taught me so much. Where do you get whole grain flours? I’ve seen whole wheat flour. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I’m trying to learn
Mary: Wonderful mixes. SPECIAL REQUEST -- would you analyze Kodiak Pancake mix and develop a comparable mix. It is so expensive, and we need your analysis to determine if it is healthy. If it is not, would you suggest an alternative. Love your channel and everything you present.
Wow. These are neat. I would not of thought of this. This sure helps things to go smoother. Have you ever figured out the cost of your healthy home made mixes compared to store bought ones?
So delish loved watching so good introduction cant wait to taste so I guess have to make these tonight! turn up my deltaparole playlist in the background and enjoy! Lara
I’m just beginning, well actually beginning again, my traditional foods lifestyle. I just have a question about eating un-soaked, sprouted, or soured grains. Is it ok? I thought that all grains that we eat need to be fermented somehow. I have just found you channel and love it so much, thank you.
Thank you for the kind words. As to unsolved grains...it really depends on how well you can digest them. I wouldn’t eat them on a regular basis. Try to at least sour (soak) them if not sprouting them. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
OMG You are a blessing Our Lord gives us ingredients that we could use to enjoy eating You have a gift that our Lord Jesus Christ gave you Thank you for sharing with us all your videos And saving us money Carmen VALENTIN Yonkers N.Y. Amen
Thank you! I really love the all purpose baking mix for my garlic cheese biscuits. Can this mix be used for dumplings? I have used bisquick in the past for them.
Hi Mary! I absolutely would use every one of these baking mixes, I can't wait to try the brownie. I was wondering a couple of things. First, can I combine two different sugars such as coconut sugar and organic cane sugar in the same mix, and also how long do the silica packs last? BTW, I use your recipe for beef bone broth and it is great. Thank you
Great questions! Yes, you can mix sugars. And as to the silica gel packs - they basically last indefinitely. Depending on what brand you use, they either change color, or have a colored dot on them that changes color, or give you some other indication once they have absorbed as much moisture as possible. Then what you do is remove them from the jar and dry them out in the microwave. And then you can reuse them and put them back in your jar. I put a link to my favorite brand in the description under the video. They come in all different sizes. SO happy to hear that the beef bone broth video is working out for you!! I also have lots of other types of bone broth videos here: ruclips.net/p/PLkRuW3pBo2U0JFsTi2N7sHSpU-vBR04CH Love, Mary
Love this video. Can’t wait to get started on another recipe of yours. I do have a question regarding the silicone packets. Can you reuse them. And how do you know when their use is expired>
Thanks very nice idea , thanks for always sharing, by the way if i substitute it with an all purpose flour will it be lesser in shelf life or longer self life, thanks, stay safe
How about a video describing ready-made mixes like these, but also including powdered milk, butter, and/or eggs. Of course there would be the standard caveats about shelf life of 6mo to 1yr. Maybe if prepared in smaller quantities that will help rotating them without wasting them.
Hi Mary Love the mixes, looking foward to more, love having as many things ready to use as possible. I usually use a jiffy corn mix in my corn casserole that I make for Thanksgiving. How much of this would I substitute for the one little box? The same amount? Thanks!
I’ve used my homemade mix in my corn bake recipe @ Thanksgiving 🦃, too. I just use the same amount. Instead of trying to measure how much is in the Jiffy Mix, I just used the weight printed on the JM box, and.weighed out that same amount on my kitchen scale. Easy-Peasy! Hope this helps!💁🏻♀️😊🤓👩🏻🍳🌈🌤 😇.
Lynn De Guzman Rumford is a brand you can find in a lot of grocery stores or I order from Bob’s Red Mill from time to time. They have a great aluminum free baking powder. God bless!
Lynn De Guzman I just saw you were asking Mary that question. I didn’t mean to speak ahead of Mary but we think a lot alike so I think she might approve😀
I love the idea of doing my own mixes however, flour last us a very long time because we don't use it much So could we use all purpose flour instead of whole wheat flour?
could you add other things to the brownies like chopped squeezed zucchini or banana mash without changing the balance of the premix? I would like to bulk up the nutrients and spread out the sugar a little. the bananas might sub out some of the sugar. but would it make the mix too wet?
Hi Stacy, Great question! I'm doing an entire video on all of this and food storage options that should be coming up soon. Oxygen Absorbers can ONLY be used for dry foods that have 10% or less moisture. Plus, you can not use oxygen absorbers with oily foods either. So...you can't use oxygen absorbers for Barley, Dried Eggs, Whole Grains (including Brown Rice) and Whole Grain Flours, Dried Meats such as Jerky, Nuts and Seeds, Brown Sugar, and Dehydrated Fruits and Vegetables UNLESS they are dry enough inside and out to snap when bent. (This information is provided by the LDS church who - although a religious organization - are considered to be an authoritative source on long term food storage.) The reason is, botulism which is poisonous can proliferate in an "anaerobic" (no oxygen) environment when there is moisture or oil. Now - all of this said - there are differences of opinions that are contrary to what the LDS church recommends about all of this including the storage of whole grains and whole grain flours with oxygen absorbers so I highly recommend that you do research on this topic and make the decision for which you are most comfortable. And be sure to stay tuned ;-) for my upcoming video on the topic. Love, Mary
@@MarysNest Thanks so much! Looking forward to the video and I am so glad I asked. Great point re: the botulism concern. I had not even considered that! Thanks again!
Mary, can these recipies be adjusted to use dehydrated or powdered egg and powdered butter? Im thinking in terms of a shelf stable mix where water can be added when eggs and butter may not be available. You can purchase the powdered items on prepper sites..
Hi Mary. New to your channel. Appreciate all of the knowledge you are sharing with us. My question is: When should I use oxygen absorbers vs silica gel packs? If I seal the mixes in a Mylar bag or vacuum seal a mason jar, will they last longer than six months? Thanks!
Hi Bill, Silica gel packs help keep things moisture free but when it comes to using Oxygen Absorbers, you need to be very careful. I have learned...They can only be used with foods that have 10% moisture or less. And many believe that whole grain flour is too oily (and therefore not “dry” enough) to be stored with Oxygen Absorbers. I go over all of this here: ruclips.net/video/dn0uESzlOvo/видео.html And I go over Mylar bag storage, here: ruclips.net/video/3jbrw-NLF_I/видео.html As to shelf life, when it comes to whole grain flours, no matter how you store them, I think it is tough to get them to stay fresh past 6 months. And it is generally NOT recommended to store whole grain flours (not whole grains) in Mylar bags for the same reasons that they shouldn’t be stored with Oxygen Absorber. The oxygen free environment can create a problem with botulism when it comes to moist or oily foods. Love, Mary
Just made brownies from the mix for the first time. While mixing it together it seemed very dry. I couldn't pour it. I added an additional egg and then ended up patting it into the pan. Any thoughts about what might be going on? They are in the oven and smell amazing.

Thank you for all these wonderful mixes. I am changing my diet and this will help me so much. Love listening get to you,you are a great instructor.
Wonderful!!
I would love to see you put all these recipes and ideas and everything that you have into a book I’m not even kidding I think I’d buy a dozen bucks and give them to every single family member I have love your channel I’m learning a lot and I’m changing the way that I’m getting thanks thank you so much
I use to make these when my children were little. Back then the recipe for homemade bisquick contained Cisco. I like this version much better.
I really enjoying your homemade mixes especially the cornbread one you .entioned you use stone ground cornmeal ,where can I find this ? What kind do you use? Thankyou just learning..
Thanks so much for sharing this, Mary. These will help us so much to stock our pantry for future uncertainties.
Take care and stay safe,
Rob
Wonderful, as always, Mary! Can’t wait to get all these mixes made! Take care and God bless.
Hi Bev! So happy to hear this!! Love, Mary
Mary,Mary,Mary....in my opinion you are a super hero!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I harvest sea salt for my salt.
This year, I'm trying growing sugar beet for the first time.
Thank you Mary for all you teach and share for us... I truly have learned so so much
Hi Angie, So happy you like this!! Love, Mary
Mary, thank you so much for these wonderful pantry recipes. One thing to point out, saturated fats are shelf stable while non-saturated fats are not.
Definitely. For these mixes, I wanted to leave out the fats - even if saturated - because they would moisten the whole grains shortening the grains shelf life. So happy you liked these recipes! Love, Mary
0:53 for a greater shelf stability, one can vacuum seal the mixes in Mylar bags with oxygen packs. You can also oven can in mason jars.
Have fun!
Thank you Mary for teaching the way you do.
Hello, I do a lot of baking I never thought of preparing all the ingredients ahead of time, your the best!!!
Oh I just found you on RUclips oh fantastic lots of Christmas presents to make 🇦🇺❤️
I do enjoy your posts.
Thank you for these amazing mixes
Hi Mary , i really enjoy these type of youtubes as i am trying to get a heap of mixes made for the pantry where i just have to add the liquid so trying to find dry meals in a jar if your going to do any of those that would be brilliant , i have dried veggies ready to make a few meals :) Thankyou for sharing .
I made your homemade coffee creamer with the cocoa from another one of your videos. Very tasty!
Hi Mary, can I vacuum pack the pancake mix in canning jar ? For longer storage.
Thank you so much for teaching us. It is so kind of you to give of your knowledge and time in this way.
Mary, this is awesome!!! I can’t wait to make these. Such a time saver!
Wonderful! Love, Mary
Hi, can u share the cake mix n tortilla mix plz
Something else you may find very helpful is to put the mixes in the freezer to kill any hidden bug before they hatch. You may want to store them in the freezer as well. I just had a whole bag of barley flour go buggy and I live in the Greater San Antonio area so I am not that far from you. Thank you for teaching people to make healthier foods.
I love Ovatine. Can we use that instead of cocoa powder? I love HEB Grocery too! ❤️
I love your videos. You have taught me so much. Where do you get whole grain flours? I’ve seen whole wheat flour. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I’m trying to learn
Hi Penny - That is not a stupid question! Whole grain flours can generally be found in the baking aisle at most grocery stores. Love, Mary
I love all of your video's such a pleasure watching yo. I have learned so much.
Wow. These are neat. I would not of thought of this. This sure helps things to go smoother. Have you ever figured out the cost of your healthy home made mixes compared to store bought ones?
Mary, since winter is approaching very soon, do you have a recipe for hot cocoa mix?
What a great idea!! I will definitely add that to the list! Love, Mary
So delish loved watching so good introduction cant wait to taste so I guess have to make these tonight! turn up my deltaparole playlist in the background and enjoy! Lara
Thank you Mary!! So helpful to be able to get these!! XO Thank you sweet friend!!
Wooooooowwwww I recently found you and I already love you and your recpies😍😍😍😍😍
I’m just beginning, well actually beginning again, my traditional foods lifestyle. I just have a question about eating un-soaked, sprouted, or soured grains. Is it ok? I thought that all grains that we eat need to be fermented somehow. I have just found you channel and love it so much, thank you.
Thank you for the kind words. As to unsolved grains...it really depends on how well you can digest them. I wouldn’t eat them on a regular basis. Try to at least sour (soak) them if not sprouting them. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
I love your videos! I always learn so much! What do you recommend if we don't want to use any flours that contain wheat?
Thank you so much for this! I just stumbled upon your channel tonight. This is so what I need! Thank you!
OMG
You are a blessing
Our Lord gives us ingredients that we could use to enjoy eating
You have a gift that our Lord Jesus Christ gave you
Thank you for sharing with us all your videos
And saving us money

These are unbelievable!😀❤️ I'm in! 😍💛Sweet Mary, you've converted me!😋🧡❤️‼️🧡‼️
@@MarysNest I live completely off grid so no microwave, how would you dry the silica packet with no electricity?

Hi Valerie, Hope you are doing well today! Love, Mary
Thanks for sharing. Our internet is out at home but today I'm at my mother's.
Hi from Indiana here was just wondering if u have to use the silicone pk...also just made your bread so wonderful..you r awesome 🙂❤❤
I love you show I learn a lot I have 1 questions when storing my mixes should I use plastic containers or glass
I have hard red wheat to grind. Can I use that in place of the whole wheat flour?
Love this video. Can’t wait to get started on another recipe of yours. I do have a question regarding the silicone packets. Can you reuse them. And how do you know when their use is expired>
Can I store these in freezer bags? Thanks so much for all the great recipe.
Thanks very nice idea , thanks for always sharing, by the way if i substitute it with an all purpose flour will it be lesser in shelf life or longer self life, thanks, stay safe
love your kitchen!
I love your music!
Thank you!
How about a video describing ready-made mixes like these, but also including powdered milk, butter, and/or eggs. Of course there would be the standard caveats about shelf life of 6mo to 1yr. Maybe if prepared in smaller quantities that will help rotating them without wasting them.
Hi Mary
Love the mixes, looking foward to more, love having as many things ready to use as possible. I usually use a jiffy corn mix in my corn casserole that I make for Thanksgiving. How much of this would I substitute for the one little box? The same amount?
Thanks!
Hmmm...good question. Yes, I honk I would substitute about the same amount. Love, Mary ❤️🤗❤️
Yummy recipes😋😍 Superb presentation 👏👍
I look forward to your next recipe👍
Wonderful!
Can you use smelt flour, oat flour, chickpea flour, coconut flour or brown rice flour in these mixes?
Oh Mary this is FABULOUS!! I especially love the aluminum free baking powder. That is one of my pet peeves😉. Thank you! Love ya sweet friend ❤️
Hi Jackie, So happy you like these!! Love, Mary
Mary's Nest hi again what is the brand you use for baking powder which is aluminum free?
Lynn De Guzman Rumford is a brand you can find in a lot of grocery stores or I order from Bob’s Red Mill from time to time. They have a great aluminum free baking powder. God bless!
@@LittleCountryCabin thank you very much
Lynn De Guzman I just saw you were asking Mary that question.
Love these mixes thank you!!
Beginner here! I would like to know when to use a silica pack and when an O2 absorber. I am storing in buckets and half gallon jars. Thanks!!
Mam, if I want to make oatmeal pancake what will be the recipe? Can you please share the oatmeal chocolate/Vanilla pancake recipes .
Hello Mary! I am new to your channel, and was wondering, if i don’t have whole wheat flour can i just use AP flour for all of these recipes?
Mary can I substitute rice flour or almond flour in place of whole-grain flour or white ?flour
Mary, can these recipies be adjusted to use dehydrated or powdered egg and powdered butter? Im thinking in terms of a shelf stable mix where water can be added when eggs and butter may not be available. You can purchase the powdered items on prepper sites..
Hi Linda, I have not tried that but that sounds like a great idea. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
