I'd love to see a remaster or sequel in VR. VR is the natural progression of Wii controls, IMO.
Agreed. I went from Wii to the Oculus. If only we could see Nintendo titles on the Oculus. Can you imagine Metroid Prime 4 in VR?

I'd love to see a remake on the Switch. Having the two motion controls.. I'd be surprised at what they could make with that.
It will be difficult without an IR pointer for the gun. I think that’s why we haven’t seen a lot of Wii shooters because of this on Switch.

@@isStock I’ve only played RE 4 on Switch which doesn’t support motion controls. I heard some of the other games support gyro controls like Splatoon. It would probably be difficult to program in Red Steel 2 though since the game is primarily a first person action combat game. Idk, just a guess.
@@dhay03 ah I see. I played re5 and aiming with the gyro feels really good. Also ring fit demonstrates that the gyro controls are at least as accurate as Wii motion plus. That said I don't know how difficult it would be to port red steel 2 and with the amount of money Ubi is making off other franchises I don't think they want to put in the money to even try.
I can say with confidence that Red Steel 2 was one of my favorite games on the Wii and I have fond memories of loading up my save file every now and then to go fight the last boss on ninja difficulty because it was so cool.
I am still playing this game to this day on dolphin emulator on my phone. The wii motion was a bit clunky and it's kind of hard to get the hang of it. One of the best games ever! This game has so much potential but it's a damn shame that this game didn't get the attention it deserves 💔
I'm so happy someone remembers this game. I really really want redsteel 3 and conduit 3 on switch.

I had never heard of this game until right now, and also never heard of the Wii Motion Plus. I have both of them arriving in the mail in the coming weeks. Wii about to have some fun!
Thank you for this video. RS2 is what the Wii should and could have been. It just came out late in the Wii's life cycle AND it required the Wii motion plus so it didn't get the attention it deserved. My wet dream is that UBIsoft will make an RS3 on the Oculus.
This is absolutely true. The Wii remote was an absolutely brilliant idea, but it needed to be developed and improved a lot more. It's unfortunate that Nintendo tried going in a completely different direction.
@@insaneweasel1 The Wii U kind of kept the hope alive but then came the Switch. I guess there was simply more money in catering to children, knowing parents like myself would spend more money on their children than themselves.
This game is probably one of my favourite games ever just because no one wants to do something like this. This is also a great video, it needs more views!

One of the more memorable FPS titles of the 7th generation. I sometimes get the feeling that the glory kill system in Doom 2016 initially was inspired from Red Steel 2.
I like how this game combined the wild West with Japan, stuff like that has always interested me.

Best game for the wii yes! I had safe 100h in that game or even more! I was so addicted to the story and those finishing moves oof.
unlocked a core memory last week thinking about how this is one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had and now I can't get it out of my head.
Great video. Completely agree. I find it interesting that XIII (also cel-shaded and Ubisoft) has a devoted fan base and a remake, but this didn’t get either.

I’m subscribing, due to the fact you talked about this game, you have a good review, plus this is honestly my favourite game of all time on my #1, I still play this game to this day, but hearing that you can play it on pc and emulating it made me hype, I’m defenetly playing with no motion controls
I'm glad I own this, and I'm going to give it another shot now. The problem was that I got both Red Steel games at the same time, and I spent so much time and energy trying to get through the first one that when I put the second in, I didn't really give it time to shine. I didn't know about most of these mechanics, and I don't think I even completed the first level. I've settled on the Wii as my only non-pc console, as I just don't prefer game design past that point, and I'm getting back into my old library. What I like about it is that it's like a whole arcade in one box, with all the different ways to play games. I mean where else are you even going to find light gun games that don't require a $100+ pc gun to function? This will be fun to learn and master.

I really liked the first red steel for how it looked and what the setting was.
I can remember that I was devastated when they showed the sucessor.
Recently accuired a copy of red steel 2, I think after all these years I'm willing to try it out to see if it is actually fun or not.
My wii for some reason wouldn't register the red steel 2 disc, so sadly i couldn't get the fun play of this game.
Also that intro was so sick! You're super underrated
So sad, you missed out. Some of my best gaming memories on the Wii were with this game. I think only Metroid Prime 3 topped it.

Just finished it yesterday! What a ride! One of the best games I've played, indifferent of system, and of course one of the best Wii titles.
Really wished the game had NG+. It was one of the best Wii games, not from Nintendo and one of those games that could not be played with k/m or draditional controller.

When ubisoft makes a game series it uselly goes like this:
*First game: bad*
*Second game: one of the most spectecular games ever*
*Third game: not bad as first* *one but not good as second* *one*
*Other games after the third* *one: "what the heck is going* *on!?"*
But in red steel it was like this
*First game: bad*
*Second game: one of the most spectecular games ever*
There wasn't a third one

Red Steel2 was awesome. I really enjoyed it way more than the 1st. I think the killer for it was having to have that add on to play the game.
Honestly such a great video essay on a wholly unappreciated game, now feel the need to dust off the wii and boot it up again, but first need to watch that GDC talk

(I finished it on medium just for two days)
I layed much hope in Red Steel II but never managed to swing the sword around my head, which is technically possible because they did it in the Wii Sports Resort swordplay... 😂

You neglected to talk about the linear map progression, one thing I wished it had was a survival mode or something with waves of enemies

Maaan… RS2 was so fun to play. I beat the game multiple times on all difficulties.
What I also found pretty badass about this game was that you could block bullets with your sword. It makes you feel like a ninja. 😂

It's not actually a sequel. The director said it was a reboot. There are interviews of him saying it.
Edit: I typed this before you said reboot in the video. God, that marketing from Ubisoft was cringe.

You completely missed the point that this sucked because it had nothing to do with the first game, which was amazing in plot and setting.
Loved the first game. I didn’t make it past the tutorial in the 2nd game. Mostly hated the cell shaded. I couldn’t get past the down grade in graphics and I don’t like westerns.
It came to switch however, I would buy again
