    I found a RUclipsr that compiled her favorite 4AD books (and a couple RPG neutral supplements) and she crafted essentially a ginormous choose your own adventure book on steroids.
    It has alignments, factions, seasons and the ability to play and map through dungeons and any area terrain of any type, then slowly scales up to regions, islands and small land masses to entire continents.
    It includes the ability to have any NPCs, quests, side quests, aging, leveling and other things.
    And she can write flavor text to her liking.
    Truly amazing to me. I'm going to do the same thing but tweaking parts to my liking.
    Mostly through 4AD books but some neutral supplements.
    I'll log the main journey through a 400 page dot journal.

    Thank you for reviewing solo-rpgs. They're something I have great interest in, but little knowledge beyond Mythic and Ironsworn.

    the fan made stuff is worth a look also. they can be as simple as new tables to make the dungeon much more thematic. one turns the dungeon into a cave of extreme cold along with the creatures that live there. all you need is the basic game and a printout of the new tables. easy peasy and cheap. great stuff.

    I love 4 against darkness and agree that it is a great entry into solo roleplay. I’ve also repurposed the tables for a randomly generated on-shot game of Tiny Dungeon with friends (needing only minimal tweaks and monster swapping) with great success. I see it as good as both a game and a resource.

    with the supplements is where this game really shines. i play co op with my grown nephew. it is an absolute hoot. great little game.

    I've heard a lot about this game but never took the time to look into it in depth. It looks easy enough to setup and play on a weekend afternoon. Thank you for a detailed review! Definitely gonna check it out.

      It's definitely easy to set up. All you need is a d6, a piece of graph paper and a pencil.

    I clicked because of 4AD I subscribed because you have a Neo-Zeong in the background

    A great option to look for is the small supplement called Four Against Dungeons and Dragons which opens a wealth of old school D&D adventures to use in the game. It's from Harrison Marchant and is a great variable. It just shows how to convert the module's materials for use in 4AD.

    I enjoy this game a lot, but I do agree that the vast amount of supplemental materials is both a blessing and a curse. They show so many different things that this game can do. 4AD is only as simple or complex as you want it to be. If you just want a quick dungeon crawl, the core book gives you that.
    If you want a world-spanning adventure with towns, quests, and notable locations to explore, the supplements give you those resources. The price does add up with bulk purchases, but using so many books at once can also slow your game down quite a bit. It all comes down to what you want out of the game and how much you can keep up with as a player.

    4AD has provided me with hrs of fun, both solo and playing with a group. It's a great lightweight dungeon crawler that provides a vehicle for getting into more serious TTRPG, or it can be taken just for what it is and enjoyed as something rather unique. The added detail offered by adding more volumes seems to be missing the point of a super simple system to me, but I have only bought and used a couple of the earliest releases.

    I went all-in recently into d100 due to its deeper content and gameplay but this does look like a decent game too.

      I like them both. I'll probably make a video that dives deeper into D100 Dungeon at some point.

      Is it possible to play D100 Dungeon with a party of characters? That was the selling point for me with 4AD.

  • @drunkendelver1966
    @drunkendelver1966 5 месяцев назад

    I just got my party up to tier 2 (d8) and I'm a little confused on how leveling up works in higher tiers. The book doesn't seem super clear.
    It says that the EXP needed to level up from minions is halved, but doesn't clarify EXP rolls very well. I get that the roll is done on a d8, but is it a straight roll, or does it use the +2 modifier like Expert Skills?
    Also, it says that EXP rolls in basic dungeons (tier 1, I guess) are done on a d6. Does the d6 explode, allowing me to level up past 6, or is it capped?

    How easy would it be to use this system alongside published adventures or modules?

    • @HowItsPlayed
      @HowItsPlayed  4 месяца назад

      It might be possible, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it. If the published adventure is for 1st ed D&D I think I might recommend you use Worlds Without Number or Old School Essentials.

    21:23 well, I won't be buying that expansion. Lancelot is not canon. He's an author self insert Mary-Sue shipping porn I believe was thrown in by Chretien de Troyes to troll the Bretons.
