Another quirky Italian vehicle, good review! Would you ever consider breaking up the Dougscore into catagories? For example, judge the Levante as an SUV (ie. more cargo volume, but perhaps lacking in features compared to the Audi Q5), instead of rating its acceleration in comparison to the Porsche 918 spyder? My suggestion would be; hyper cars, super cars, sports cars, luxury cars, pickup trucks, SUV's, economy cars, and minivans all get rated according to separate factors pertaining to their respective catagories. I notice the Dougscore list is becoming rather full, so maybe this would help clean it up? Thanks for reading this, if you did :)
cornelius hernandez macarther He is right, we need categorys, its not fair to compate the acceleration of an Aventador SV or a 918 Spyder to a G Wagon or a 1970 car
It seems no one has noted your lack of concentration in writing this comment in proper English and your lack of intellect to insult someone. The car may or may not be a POS but you surely are.
Fiat Chrysler owns Maserati and is using the brand name to sell crap like the rest of its brands they destroy like when they merged with Mercedes . What a bunch of cheap bastards
It is sad, yeah. Unfortunately, FCA has a tendency to cheap out wherever possible, and that usually results in everything they touch turning to shit. Except the Wrangler. I'm pretty sure almost all of FCA's actual resources go into top-tier Dodges, and Jeep. I can't come up with any other explanation as to why the Wrangler still manages to be rock fucking solid.
Doug, i believe you forgot to mention the fact that the shifter design is the same as the jeep that killed that star trek actor. It isnt Just bad, is dangerous. It goes back to park to avoid more lawsuits.
@@ihavetheworldssmallestdick4568 taking window switches from a dodge caravan is poorly made especially when its 80k this is a 2017 model car yet it has the controls of a 2009 Chevy suburban.
Its a reworked pentastar. I think it is a bit of a stretch to call it a Ferrari engine. Fiat owns all three companies and doesnt have any qualms with badge engineering.
If you guys fast forward to when Doug starts driving the Maserati, he says a couple of very memorable things. He says he actually thinks it handles better than the Porsche SUV. Maybe the best in class. He says it feels a lot quicker than 345 horsepower. And to me, the most important thing he said in the whole video was that in 3 years, when the car is a CPO and is going for 30k less than the original price, it will be hard to resist. Guess what? That time is now. You can find these used between 40 and 50k.
When it comes to driving doug is completely clueless and just says random things. I promise u this isnt half as good as any porsche suv to drive. He called the ghibli top in class to drive and my 2012 e350 handles n rides 100× better, my ghibli feels like its worth 10k n the e350 feels like a bargain for near 100k new
Nagajyothi J Finally I got a AMG, have you ever drived quattroporte? How about its quality? Is it easy to fix if something happened? Someone told me it is hard to get the official parts to fix a Maserati.
I used to be in love with Maserati’s when I was a kid. The early 2000’s V-8 sound sent chills down my spine. A year ago I sat in a 2015 quattroporte that was fully loaded and was extremely disappointed. They legitimately look/feel like well optioned Chrysler/dodges. Now I would never even consider one regardless of how cheap they got.
@@Deadbass_ problem is japanese cars typically costs 20-30k while this costs 80k base, shared switches is fine, so long it doesn't make it look out of place, or taken from much cheaper cars
Everybody said the Cayenne would be the end of Porsche when it first came out but it actually made the company a fortune although this car seems a bit average
Tech Showdown As damaging to Maserati’s image as the Levante is, you make a very good point. Even I thought Cayenne would ruin Porsche, and now they’re increasingly building the most badass cars ever.
Cayenne turbo S and cayenne S drive great. I think it’s one of the best driving SUV. Secure feel, well planned to the road, stable at high speed, roomy. I had one for 6 yrs now and the S for 8 yrs. pretty reliable. Although I am waiting for the new Urus. Like the style better than the Botaga. Approx the same range. 🦅🦅🇺🇸
Paladin it's to be expected. Almost all companies do it to some extent and they are mainly making it so expensive just for the name. If it wasn't a Maserati it would be a 50-60k car but as we all know, it will sell due to that badge.
From what I've gathered Fiat is more or less doing what Mercedes did with Chrysler, bleed its cash funds to pay to develop their own cars. Fiat developed a new RWD platform for Alfa and Maserati (that I believe underpins all of their new models, with each having a sport sedan and crossover based on it), and it was slated to underpin the next gen Charger/Challenger/300. But now Marchionne basically is saying Chrysler isn't going to get that platform, instead the 300 is going to go FWD, and the Challenger and Charger are probably going to keep updating their old Mercedes based platform until Fiat probably ends up selling Chrysler off bit by bit (or slowly circling the drain, in which case, Chrysler will probably get that platform about the time that its 5-10 years out of date like Mercedes did). They dropped billions updating Alfa and Maserati already, and they aren't really selling. They're hoping the crossover versions will start to get sales going, which the just released Alfa one probably will sell ok, with the Maserati needing to be massively discounted to (as Doug points out it is way overpriced).
I'm hopping that Chrysler can buy itself back like Neuberger Bergman did when Leahman Brothers collapsed. I hope that Maserati is aquired with it. You nailed it spot on. Mercedes looted that company and drained everything from it. Chrysler were the fastest groing company when they bought it out and even retirement fund. It's because at one time Chrysler held more development pattents as they were known for engineering and Mercedes didn't want anyone close to their score. Fiat had a partnership with GM and sued them for forty five billion dollars which placed GM in bankruptcy. I'd like to see all Americans boycott both Mercedes and Fiat. Fiat was practically given Chrysler with US treasury bonds and further damaged the Chrysler retirement fund as well. Chrysler is Fiat's only profitable company. These was preditory business practices and particularly in Mercedes's case should have been prosecuted. They purchased Chrysler for eighty billion and soled it off to Cerebus for fourteen billion. This was a theft.
Maserati only has two good things, a cool logo and admittedly awesome exhaust. Not worth the $80k though. Should be using the money that’s going towards opening stores to redesign and upgrade the interior along with putting more value for the money.
The DeTomaso years were the worst. Citroën years were interesting but unreliable. This is the most reliable they have ever been in 47 years. Along with Alfa, and Ferrari, I think that they have done a great job.
Maserati's target market for this car seems to be people that buy fake accessories and 3/4 the price of a genuine one because it denotes "quality". Those who want this car should just work harder and buy a Cayenne.
agreed but if you look from the side, it looks like a mazda cx5...

It funny how nobody talks about the REQUIRED shape of the front end for European pedestrian impact. All cars/pussy SUV's have the Rhino nose which is designed to deflect pedestrians. Doug needs to point this out to help explain the ridiculous front end styling..... to counter the nasty front ends, designers now try to make the rear end "compliment" the ugly front end to broaden and diminish the mandate....
Ok but a Rav4 is a fucking TOYOTA that nobody WANTS to drive, they buy it out of necessity. A Maserati is a fucking MASERATI. You'd be shocked the amount of times I've seen peoples eye open after I tell them " its a Maserati ". I'll sit there for 5 minutes on average answering thier glee filled questions, and they always walk away filled with excitement and joy. Its an instant conversation starter, and aint NOONE interested in a Rav fucking 4 unless its painted day glow orange and is converted into a monster truck.
@TDI for Life A 20-year-old mercedes s-class come with more equipment than a Rav4 of this year, the year of the vehicle has nothing to do... Maserati is cheap period.
that would be the porsche, macan shares the engines with Škodas and Cayenne is a Touareg with a Porsche design language... :) and both cars have parts that can be found in a Polo.
Come on Dougie… why pretend to not get what most people know… NO Maserati model is worth it's MSRP as a new car. I own a 2017 Maserati Ghibli S I purchased as a CPO with extended warranty and 1.9% financing with just under 25K miles on it. The sticker price when it was on the showroom floor in late 2016 was just over $100K. When I bought it in Aug 2020 from a Maserati dealership (again as a CPO vehicle) I paid $39.3K. Maserati cars (and Levante & Grecale SUVs) that have low mileage and were serviced as prescribed are great cars to enjoy for a few years without breaking the bank. They are a horrendously bad value when purchased brand new, or still very expensive to lease (due to the steep depreciation). I LOVE my Ghibli S at the price I paid for it.
Gundeep Virdi. I love the styling of the grand turismo. I'd buy one in a heart beat. I got 3 kids so 4 doors has to beat out 2. Atleast till they are in there teen years
Maseratis on autotrader in my area are listed at around 20k under MSRP, and I"m sure you could get the dealer to knock off another 5 or 10k from the price
Lets stop HIGH EXPECTATIONS from small individuals well the Jaguar F-type has a V6 and that’s up there in the $80k range. and don’t forget about the GTR. there’s nothing particularly wrong with V6’s.
I scooped up a ‘17 for $53k and love every bit. The twin turbo & all wheel drive, which Dougie fails to mention, make it an incredibly fun automobile to drive. Plus, it’s an eye catcher!
@@stevemulder9026 Doug straight up said it was excellent to drive. It's just does not have the quality and technology that it should for it's price point.
I worked for a parking company and got to drive a fifth gen Quattroporte. Really, really nice place to be a fantastic V8. Felt like a special car. Current gen though...
The 2021 Levante comes standard with the Blind Spot Alert in the side view mirrors with the base trim & it also has front & rear parking sensors standard now with the rear view camera. This was only the second model year for the Levante. They’ve been steadily improving it in subsequent model years clearly especially with the refresh for 2021
Mazda CX 5 top of the range in australia is about $60k D/A, 2022 Modena with cooled seats etc, $27k upgrades for 21inch rims/brakes etc is $190. To me thats like a Holden SV6, a very nice car versus a Holden HSV GTSR $40 to $120k okay now 4 years old they sell for $200k, $500k for the W1 edition. I ride an MV Agusta F4 for the same reason, they sound great, look great, great quality. They are not the fastest, cheapest, the SUV would be a bad options for any off road stuff, a section of gravel or dirt would be the only off road I would do. I've looked at the MB GLE 450, BMW, and yes some of the cheaper models with 7 year warranties. The 2022 Modena with seat rim and brake upgrade plus a few other bit is perfect for me. A GTS or Ferrari SUV, I don't have $400k. I will sell the MB C300 and keep my GTSR! under cover. It does sound like the Maserati SUV was very average in the first few years, now in Perth WA, they must be selling very well. Telsla, well we don't have those unless you want a 3 model, its a right hand drive supply issue, that could be a 2 yes two year wait. I hope the Italy motor industry continues to sell good profitable volumes, they dont just make a means to get from point A to B.
The 2009 Mazda I bought for $23,000 had blind-spot alert in the side-view mirrors, and that was 13 years ago -- so I'm not sure that's something I'd be touting for how Levante is steadily improving.
Drew Bendel how the fuck did I know that someone was going to say this? Although personally, I'd say "Doug the kind of guy to get mad when he gets home and his takeout is still warm"

2. They're a trash brand
Well they used to be good
Jonathan Santos “used to” is the key word
@@mymaingotbanned_not5816 yeah remember the legendary MC12?

It’s trash but I still love them
That unpainted trim all around the car reminds me of a base model camry...from 2005.
Roman G more like a Honda crv haha
Ziggy hahaha spot on!
Canadian Plane Spotter agreed, it makes good cars look bad
Canadian Plane Spotter quit whining
cornelius hernandez macarther He is right, we need categorys, its not fair to compate the acceleration of an Aventador SV or a 918 Spyder to a G Wagon or a 1970 car
Canadian Plane Spotter I’ve been thinking this was the most logical way to do it since he started. It’s obvious. @Doug Demuro look at this comment.
this is a great idea
The wheels look 10 years old.
blackericdenice the car is pretty much junk.
Indeed... I would think a luxury crossover would at least have 20” plus rims.

C Moore LOL triggered much? You must own one.
C Moore The interior of this car looks like it was taken straight out of a Fiat.
C Moore your the idiot, Ive driven them and they are definitely a POS. That shifter is annoying asf and it rides like a toyota
It seems no one has noted your lack of concentration in writing this comment in proper English and your lack of intellect to insult someone. The car may or may not be a POS but you surely are.
The car overall looks cheap, plastics, boring design, and junky infotainment system. A bit sad to see Maserati go down this path.
the`re going ahead the chinese copies, look what happened to range rover!
FCAs Uconnect is one of the better infotainment systems.
Fiat Chrysler owns Maserati and is using the brand name to sell crap like the rest of its brands they destroy like when they merged with Mercedes . What a bunch of cheap bastards
Maserati is always been crap. The poor man's Ferrari.
Aka why we didn't buy anything Jeep/fiat/dodge/maserati these past few years. That shifter from fiat is super fucking shit.
What's wrong with just having a normal shifter. Yes, it may be boring but you're way less likely to be run over by your own vehicle.
Every time I see a Maserati I think of Dough, and the toothpaste tube.

Still not worth it. Maybe 28k at most.
Maybe now
When it comes to driving doug is completely clueless and just says random things. I promise u this isnt half as good as any porsche suv to drive. He called the ghibli top in class to drive and my 2012 e350 handles n rides 100× better, my ghibli feels like its worth 10k n the e350 feels like a bargain for near 100k new
Agree, it handles absolutely fantastic

A year ago I sat in a 2015 quattroporte that was fully loaded and was extremely disappointed. They legitimately look/feel like well optioned Chrysler/dodges.
That's pretty pathetic, you would think they would have pride in their "luxury" brand and be creative
Paladin it's to be expected. Almost all companies do it to some extent and they are mainly making it so expensive just for the name. If it wasn't a Maserati it would be a 50-60k car but as we all know, it will sell due to that badge.
They are basically selling Chryslers with Maserati badges and laughing all the way to the bank.
Bill Clay Chrysler has constantly been rebadging vehicles for decades. Their Chrysler and Dodge minivans are one in the same.
Sorry 'bout the spelling errors. My spell check needs to learn English
how is this any different than before...remember the TC? it was a Maserati Lebaron
Maserati only has two good things, a cool logo and admittedly awesome exhaust. Not worth the $80k though. Should be using the money that’s going towards opening stores to redesign and upgrade the interior along with putting more value for the money.
Fiat has ruined another car company
Maserati ruined itself a while ago... they only have a good engine note and that is it
The DeTomaso years were the worst. Citroën years were interesting but unreliable. This is the most reliable they have ever been in 47 years. Along with Alfa, and Ferrari, I think that they have done a great job.

The only Maserati I like is the Grand Turismo just because of that wonderful Ferrari made 4.7l naturally aspirated V8 exhaust note

I hope the Italy motor industry continues to sell good profitable volumes, they dont just make a means to get from point A to B.

that's mostly because these are becoming requirements for every car.
The 2009 Mazda I bought for $23,000 had blind-spot alert in the side-view mirrors, and that was 13 years ago -- so I'm not sure that's something I'd be touting for how Levante is steadily improving.
