I'm old enough to remember this song when I was a kid growing up in NYC. This came out during the height of the British Invasion ... yes ... I was confused that this was a British band as I assumed by the mid 60's all British bands sounded like the Beatles, Stones, DC5, Animals, Searchers, Hermans hermits etc .. and I did hear it in the Queen's Gambit ./ one of the best short series I have enjoyed immensly . watched it twice ,, it's that good!
This boys and girls is what real live music is all about. I saw Georgie and the Blue Flames at a small jazz club in Brum many years ago. Totally blew me away.
Small venues are best for just about every kind of popular music. At the bigger ones the need to fill the arena with spectacle and pyrotechnics takes over to the detriment of the performance.
As a 19 year old on a tour, we had one night in London and I wanted to paint the town. So I went out alone and tried my poor British accent on some birds all dressed up there only to find out they were from Philadelphia. I looked hammered when I got on the bus next morning and got a dirty look from the tour guide.
Heard this upbeat song on the drive into work this morning. Turned it up loud and enjoyed every second of it. A great start to my day. Work was still shit, but the start of my day was great.
And if you and the rest of us did not have music to stimulate us and brighten our days...we would revert back to being drones and sad little individuals.............
Heard this in the grocery store today. Came home, checked You Tube, and here it is. My God , I havent heard this since the 60s! What a blast from the past!
My memory brought me here. An eighth grader in March of '65 at an eastside Catholic school in Erie , Pennsylvania, USA can't wait to get to high school in the fall. Yeh, Yeh indeed.
GROWING UP AT AGE 12 IN AMERICA WE WERE PRESENTED "YEH YEH" WHICH WENT TOP 10 IN BOSTON AND I WAS AN IMMEDIATE FAN. GET AWAY MADE THE LOWER CHARTS. Georgie if you are reading this you sounded great. You had them rocking ready steady here. You are amazing as a keyboardist. I like too the camera panning the drummer close up. He really laid down that beat and did great fill

WOW - the US single has the sax solo completely cut out, here we get a double verse of it!!! What a great record, shoulda done more here in the States.
I remember watching this episode of Ready Steady Go.!! Cathy Mc Gowon Queen of the Mods. And the great Georgie Fame, Oh! the wonderful Great Music of the 1960s. REAL TALENT.
(extract from Wikipedia 2011) "Georgie Fame (born Clive Powell, 26 June 1943, Leigh, Lancashire) is a British rhythm and blues and jazz singer and keyboard player. The one-time rock and roll tour musician, who had a string of 1960s hits, is still a popular performer, often working with contemporaries such as Van Morrison and Bill Wyman. Fame took piano lessons from the age of seven and after leaving Leigh Central County Secondary School at 15, he worked for a brief period in a cotton weaving mill and played piano for a band called The Dominoes in the evenings. After taking part in a singing contest at the Butlins Holiday Camp in Pwllheli, North Wales he was offered a job there by the band leader, early British rock'n'roll star Rory Blackwell. At sixteen years of age, Fame went to London and, on the recommendation of Lionel Bart, entered into a management agreement with Larry Parnes, who had given new stage names to such artists as Marty Wilde and Billy Fury. Fame later recalled that Parnes had given him an ultimatum over his forced change of name:" It was very much against my will but he said, "If you don't use my name, I won't use you in the show". " Over the following year he toured the UK playing beside Wilde, Joe Brown, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and others. Fame played piano for Billy Fury in his backing band The Blue Flames. When the backing band got the sack at the end of 1961, the band were re-billed as "Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames" and went on to enjoy great success with a repertoire largely of rhythm and blues numbers." Britain's Mose Allison. (Ready, Steady, Go! was the British counterpart to American Bandstand.)
I Georgie Fame do this song on one of the American shows, either Shindig or Hullabaloo. Up to that point I’d cut my teeth on guitar groups starting with the Beatles. I didn’t know what to make of this, or particularly like it, but over time I came around. Now I have a copy of this and a couple of Georgie Fame LPs.
Bill Eyden on drums - One of the best Jazz drummers around at the time - great Be-bop player - Tubby Hayes etc.. Nice Guy. Played drums on Procul Harum - Whiter Shade Of Pale.
@@nycdude999 Exactly! At first I could have sworn it was lip-synching, it sounded so like the recording. But as it went on it was clear they were really doing it. Fantastic!
Having already seen Georgie at various clubs (Ricky Tick, Flamingo) I confess to being on that studio floor, and yes they were most certainly live .. :)
A slightly longer version of this clip used to be up on here several years ago before suddenly disappearing. It showed the late Keith Fordyce (only a short glimpse of him here, right at the end) predicting that this record would reach Number One. It did.
Fortunate to have seen him twice :: In Manchester & @ Southport Arts Centre :: He is from Leigh in Lancashire \ England ~ Georgie Fame and The Blue Flames - "Yeh Yeh" - Ready, Steady, Go! [The Weekend Starts Here] !!

This was the band that was playing at the Bag of Nails when Paul McCartney first introduced himself to Linda in 1967..
How do you know that?
This is brilliant, he & band are so hep, they’re on fire. Georgie’s delivery is so jazzy & smooth.
Whooa he is GOOD! What a performance that is still hot, and even hotter in 2021!
I never grow tired of this. Thank you Georgie and Flames!!
