In (I think) 1962 there was an article in the New Record Mirror entitled "Look for the blues says Georgie Fame'. So we hitch hiked to London, found the Flamingo Club. Various acts were on. Finally this little bloke (Georgie Fame) walked onto the stage. He climbed up onto the seat of the Hammond organ. He started to play and....this *HUGE* voice came out, singing real rhythm and blues.... amazing...

'Yeh, Yeh' was Georgie Fame's first number 1 hit in the UK. The guy from Lancashire topped the charts two more times ('Get Away', 'The Ballad Of Bonnie And Clyde').

I have a feeling "Yeh Yeh" wasn't supposed to be an instrumental...I think they didn't give him a microphone so they just winged it. That's a Pro going with the flow.

why was he NOT so popular in the states? always a kickin' band, great vocalist, fulla soul n rhythm, handsome devil too...oh, and the CRAP that WAS popular here at the time, geezh!

He had three singles that cracked the Top 40 in the US over three years. "Bonnie and Clyde" was probably his biggest. That's better than most single artists or groups did back then. I agree he was a major talent. Maybe too "jazzy" for American teens in the 60's.

That's the first time I've seen "Yeh Yeh" without vocals. Did they really forget to give Georgie a microphone? Someone at t=75 grabs one from the left trumpeter and hastily puts it on a stand for the next song.

I believe at one time, it was up here. The only performances that wasn't filmed was the Beatles and Rolling Stones. John and Mick had a row in 1965 about who would close the show (ended up The Kinks closed), so the next year both bands refused to have their performance filmed. Other artists were Roy Orbison, Spencer Davis Group, Small Faces, Yardbirds, The Who, Dusty Springfield, Cliff Richard and the Shadows, Herman's Hermits and the Walker Brothers.

Obsessive and extremely intrusive branding across the screen of 'Reeling in the Years'. As soon as I see the 'Reeling in the Years' branding it turns me off.
