- Visual journaling is a rhythm that we have cultivated as a ministry for the last decade. As a community, we have lovingly called this process ‘History Booking’, using this rhythm as a meeting place to cultivate memory, exercise gratitude and reject fear.
Each of us have been deeply impacted by the process of keeping a visual journal in communion with the Holy Spirit. Over the years, we have taught this to students and guests of our schools and retreats. Instead of simply journaling words or conversation with God, we have taught others to expand on that same process and use visual terms and methods.
We have found visual journaling to be an amazing way to cultivate stillness and contemplation at home and ANYWHERE you are with the Lord. Ultimately, we want to give you a resource to practice a posture of joy in your sonship and daughterhood before the Lord.
Lesson 2 with Creative Director Justina Stevens is The Art of Being Answered - a prompt for reflection and contemplating the goodness of God while practicing a heart + hand connection. This prompt is an invitation to step back from the canvas of your life to see where God is answering you everyday in ways both BIG and small. We invite you to choose joy as you engage this prompt, wherever you are. Remember : the purpose of this lesson is not about perfection, but reflection!

I studied Graphic Design and with Illustration as a major, I have always struggled to draw/paint for "fun" or even, at all in the past couple of years. God encountered me powerfully through this series in letting go of performance and striving. Instead, He asked me to do this as my devotional time and just spend time connecting with Him in a way that is fresh and appealing to me. I have felt the need to prove my worth, melt away as I dive in! What a blessing. Thank you Cageless Birds.

I almost clicked by, thinking I needed to be an artist. I'm glad I didn't. Ive been "blowing up" on my family lately with all the stress. This is an answer for me and accessible to me and my Son, who is on the Autism Spectrum.

Wow its interesting this was on my feed because a year ago the Lord told me 'visionary art', then a few weeks ago he told me 'start sketching'... And I want to try to, its just like I'm. Stuck in my normal routine with Him and I am still not picking up my pen or paints with Him.

I am beyond grateful that you are doing these videos. I am an Art Journaler from way back- in the 90's, and have walked with the Lord for decades. But these videos are an answer to a request-for something fresh and different for my prayer time during this Christmas season. I downloaded them all and will be meditating upon the goodness of God along with these videos. I have been heard an answered! :D
I am absolutely loving these! I just completed my “Art of being answered” prompt last night! It’s amazing to see how many times throughout the month of March, the Lord revealed Himself in so many simply every day task! Thank you again for sharing this and sharing your heart! Fully loved it! This exercise with worship music. My heart melted towards the Lord. I had missed how much God had blessed me in the last week without me realizing!

This is so timely for me! I have wanted to do visual journaling for a few months and I bought everything I needed for it. But I was stuck on how to do it. I am not an artist but I love art. I was getting dissatisfied with my creations. The lessons have helped me to realize that this is between me and the lord and have given me guidance on how to approach this practice! Thanks a bunch!! These videos are one of the areas the Lord answered me this month :)
