i have an original HeyBike Ranger with a 750 watt, im 310. no issues with most hills, however a 1000 watt would help. But a 750 works fine too, duel motors, not a must. you just need to pedal. lol
@@michaeldaniels5067 also depends on motor type and controller type 750w geared motor will smoke a 750w direct drive especially if your on the heavier side. Most direct drive motors have less torque then geared motors but have more top speed.
Just being able to go at a faster clip than a non-electric bike is thrilling enough for me. I would however like to see PEV manufacturers work more on safer batteries, longer ranges, and more torque, instead of concentrating so much on promoting the speed factor. Better long range and torque would certainly encourage more long distance adventuring and commuting, and hopefully get more people enjoying being out of cars, especially us city folks.
I don’t think the government knows enough about e-bikes to regulate anything about them. It’s always a knee jerk reaction from big brother. Let’s punish everyone for the actions of a few.
im a huge fan of HeyBike. They have gotten a lot of hate for customer support, but mostly due to them being a China based company and not being able to respond in a timely manner due to time change etc. But I have personally worked with them and know they truly do care about their customers and the quality of their product. And they have built up their support and continue to improve. Still a new company , about 3 years old.
Good Morning, My Wired Freedom, Has An overwhelming Power, I keep it locked at Class 2, But Love the fact That I can Switch it over, It's like it's like having a V8 but you only drive it like if it was a 4-cylinder... Anyway my brother have a Merry Christmas! Wishing you and the family the very best. I owe you a visit
I had a Japanese Panasonic bike back around early 2000s with a 4 speed schimano internal rear hub shifter. In first gear it was capable of climbing the steepest incline or the Tour de France. It was only 250 watts. Had a NImh battery and lasted me 4 years, though it was barely adding power the 4th year.
Florida has no upper peak output limit as long as the bike has a working pedal assist system. I personally own a Philodo H8 that has 2 1000 watt nominal, 1500 watt peak for 3000 watts peak output. use it to commute every day.
1000w or 750w.. either can be set to only contribute power up to 20.mph.. and I chose the 1000w on my recumbent trike, with a heavy trailer (requiring more amps to climb steep hills.. And Again, my trike controller is set to a max of 20 mph.. Heavier riders or heavy trailers require more torque and that means more watts..
Its simple the more supposed e-bikes that exceed the the maximum power and speed regulations …. The more restrictive regulations and more outright bans. As as you say “ride responsibly ride safe”
im of the opinion that power dosnt really matter its the speed that matters. My Ebike is 5000w but i keep it to the speed limit in my area. Never once been pulled over i just like the speed i can get going at. TBH 500w-750w really is not enough at my current weight. Im 265-275 on average.
If it wasn't for dual 1,000 W capable motor e-bikes I wouldn't even be on a two-wheeled vehicle with pedals. I hover about 260 lb and living areas where there's a lot of hills. At any given time I could go 3,200 FT elevation gain and a 750 watt motor would end up in a burnt controller or me just saying I quit. It's good and fine if you're 170 lb and live in flat areas but that's not my situation. What is muddying the waters is the e-mopeds that are out there. They are not designed for Hills unless you got 6,000 watts and then you're borderline a motorcycle.
I know you and I have disagree on this before. I don’t think it should have anything to do with the motor size. I think it should have to do with a speed limit. You don’t restrict a Corvette in your 25 mph neighborhood because it has the potential of going faster. And according to the federal government, most of the bikes are illegal anyways as a class 3 because they have a throttle on them. Class three is pedal assist up to 28 mph only no throttle is allowed on the bike.
The main issue with using speed limit is that the corvette has a registration, license plate, insurance, inspection, and licensed driver. Yes, we have to be careful about what we really want.
@ I have absolutely no problem, registering and ensuring my bike. I would like to take my bike to work. It’s 24 miles one way I don’t feel like doing it at 12 miles an hour. So yes, we should let class 1,2 and three to the walkways, and restrict the unclassified but we should have allowances for high powered bikes, in the state of New Hampshire any bike over 750 W cannot be on the road. There’s no way to register it. I’ve tried. They literally told me just respectfully ride it and I won’t have a problem. Which is what I do. I know New York is looking at registering all ebikes personally I think they should just register all bikes, not restricted to eBikes conventional bikes can break the law also
@@GarysE-BikeAdventuresone hundred percent agree with you. What is truly unclassified Now, should have a new classification. If they would in fact do this, they would be able to leave the bikes that are already legal alone. I spoke about this long ago when they started making these faster bikes.
Well, I don't want to register and insure a bike. Now if there was an option to register and insure anything above 1000w maybe we would both be happy :-)

I believe florida calls for a maximum 750 watts. It does not spell out peak or nominal. That would be up to the interpretation of a court. For example the AMA, american motorcycle association. Calls for a seven hundred and fifty watt maximum. for emtbs in competitions. This means peak in that case. I do know they do not allow a throttle to be on any class 3. And I believe as of january 1. 2025. Local municipalities can impose restrictions further than the state. You can thank key biscane, for that one.
That extra 250 W of power sucks a lot more juice from the battery and limits your range. There's not many hills that 1000 W can safely go up that a 750 W motor couldn't. More than 750 W is considered a motor vehicle needing a license; limited in legal use. Some yahoos will illegally fly down bike paths with their fast, powerful bikes and accidentally hit pedestrians & kids on slower bikes. I hope they throw the book at them!
