  • In this video I show you how I made my underquilt protector. The underquilt protector is really nice because it blocks the wind from penetrating my underquilt and robbing it of warmth, and it also protects the underquilt from splashes when it rains.

Fantastic! My mother & ex-wife both taught me the basics of sewing years ago. I've since forgotten most of what I once knew. Now I'm an older man of a certain age & I have plans to take sewing lessons this winter. I'm still young enough to hit the trails & love my hammocks. Making my own gear would bring a level of satisfaction & a product with my exact specifications that is difficult to achieve through purchasing ready made gear unless spending uber $ for custom gear. Thanks for the skilled video.

Great video. And good excuse for me to learn how to use my rolled hem foot. I have some silnylon, just need to resupply on shock cord etc. I like your design in that it doesn't have long pieces of shock cord along the whole seam.

Why not just make the outer UQ with the tarp fabric? Curious, because that is what I thought about doing. Not sure of ins and outs about though

You could, but if it gets muddy or dirty, it is MUCH easier to just wash an underquilt protector than to your down/synthetic underquilt.

Have you had any condensation issues with it being silnylon? Also, main reason I'm makeing it is to stop wind from getting between the uq and me. Is 83%long enough to seal?

I havent, but if you sweat a lot I would go with non-waterproof.
