Hisense U8QF Review: 132-Zone FALD & 1200+ Nits Brightness for £800!

- Опубликовано: 8 сен 2024
- We review the 55-inch Hisense U8QF "ULED" LCD TV which is incredibly well-specced for the money, offering 132-zone full-array local dimming (FALD), quantum dot colours, a peak brightness exceeding 1200 nits, as well as multi-HDR support for only £800.
Topics covered include black level, local dimming, colour accuracy, motion handling, video processing, screen uniformity, HDR, gaming and sound quality.
Our review sample was the 55in Hisense 55U8QFTUK which is the UK 3-pin-plug version. The U8Q is also available in a larger 65-inch version (model number 65U8QFTUK).

"Alex-aaaaah." He didn't want the TV joining in on the review. XD
I have bought one of these and I'm pretty happy with it for the time being. Bought it when LG CX 65 inch were way over 2500GBP, and I just wanted a new 65 inch with nice HDR quality and casual gaming. Probably if I was to buy a TV I would pick z CX 65 inch which went down massively in price, but having Dolby Vision, it's definetly a better choice than Samsung QLED lineup. The only real competitor to it would be Sony XH900, but on the specific model that I've seen blooming was terrible so I wasn't sure about it. The only downside I really find with it is the fact that the panel is 120hz but because of the HDMI 2.0 there is no way to utilize that and also Hisense I think locked the panel via their software which is a bummer.

@@StojkovicNebojsa ? lol
Hi, thinking of buying this now since i found it well priced, do you still like it, did you face any issues with it so far, thanks a lot

The built-in Alex... Aaaaah.
Ja man xD
That pause on Alexa was nice 🙂
Would be so helpful if you had a updated list on your website for recommended TV for each price tag and category of people
How do u get onto the recommended TV list
The older videos always get a bit confusing after the price drops I feel.
I have this TV and I’m a gamer, it’s very effective, on warzone It is stunning how the 1000nits helps you, even in others games, great TV if you plan to play PS5 and don’t want to go above 1K$
Vision angles are bad, you can see a green blooming, but it really doesn’t matter at all because you watch the TV from the front side
Dolby vision on Netflix is very good, the compensation move can be better though
I have this TV and being a normal viewer I found it to have a great picture for both sky and PS4 and Alos pic gaming. The blacks a good. Gaming is smooth sound is great from the front forward speakersbb not having a fortune to buy a TV. Getting the picture settings right can take time but I'm really happy but as I have said I'm no expert.
Can I ask what settings you got good results from for gaming?
@@camy252camy3 I will look into it and let you know later

Love this channel, been watching every review for TVs and each time a new comes out it has me guessing again which one to buy... Also, gotta love those cheeky jokes that are sneaked into each video 😂
Awesome tv ! 65 inch is brilliant!the sound is absolutely wonderful!
Great video, just to cover from my own experiences with this TV it suffers very bad with motion blur/ghosting with gaming, and doesn't support 120hz gaming either and lacks a HDMI 2.1 port which pretty much makes the whole 120hz pointless
Deciding between this or the Q70A. I watch mostly sports and it will be used mostly for gaming
@@Neo_Rain146 get an LG oled55bx6lb support hdmi 2.1 120hz and has better picture than the hisense amazing TV for good price
@@Neo_Rain146 it js terrible for sport, Motiom is pathetic
@@divoreddy9375 Got the Q70A and pretty happy with it
So i updated mine via a pc plugged into it to hdmi 2.1 it was easy and quick. I have no idea what the panel runs but if set up correctly the ghosting disapears.
I have a 2018 hisense. It’s not the most high end and doesn’t do hdr all that well (MAYBE 400nits peak brightness) but has a great image. They make a solid tv for the most part, in my opinion. But their support services are awful.
2:23 ok how many times did it take for you to say this correctly and that fast lol great job!

I just picked up the 65” from Costco for £839 (incl VAT). You’re welcome! The 65” model is not advertised on the website but is available in store. That’s £140 cheaper than on Curry’s!!!
how are you finding the motion? can be shocking
james daley keep getting the same question....I for me, it’s alright. Watched tennis in 4K and it looked good. Every now and then, I can see why people complain but for £839, there is nothing anywhere close to that TV out there IMHO
Thank you i was going to buy from Curry's :)
Lol. I've found one for 750 quid. 😁
@@M.Moadeli123 Even with my post being 7 months old, I’d still be curious to see a link for £750 for the 65” model. FYI, Costco has it for £799 at the moment.
What do you recomend instead for around the same price Vincent? This is really frustrating...
I wish you would do more mid-tier TV reviews too! I've been able to calibrate some fairly well, and they deserve more professional content around them for discerning viewers on a budget.
i dont know why but all the professional tv reviwer are testing the tv as just a monitor :(, but the tv is still a tv, so it would be very usefull if the tv tuner would be tested also (quality, speed, functions etv etv)
Great honest video review here Vincent .. Bravo... was waiting for a review of this TV, even though I kind of knew how it would turn out from forum results.
Looks like the XH9005 is back on top of my list.
Can you point me to any of his reviewes which have been dishonest? Just so I know where I stand...
really respect Vincent being so independent in his review despite hisense sent him the TV.
He's not independent....maybe more lgslave......
@@giorgiopippo2798 yup. just realised that, he even attended LG event... sponsored trip.. quantum tv pointed out..
Always the best review on RUclips, thanks
Edit : Well it looks like the TV can actually output 1080p at 120hz or 4K 60hz if you prefer with some setting fiddling - which isn't uncommon on a native 10hz panel with HDMI 2.0 - It doesn't look like 1440p 120hz works though which is a shame. & a little odd when other manufactur's TV that are on a 120hz pannels with HDMI 2.0 can do that..
The whole 8bit colour pannel with frame compensation vs the 10bit colour without it depending on the model is something that has me scratching my head - on which way to jump as does the white and red smeering issues that seems to not effect all TV's in the range - that is a flipping minefield too.
Probably one of the best for the money
You mentioned an issue with stutter with this TV and it's Film Mode. I have the same (or similar) issue with the 55" Sony x900H. When using Cinemotion (Smoothness and Clearness set to 'Min) with it's Native Apps and it has intermittent stutter. Turning Cinemotion off solves it but introduces judder. Sending a 24hz signal also solves it and plays smooth as silk. I'd like the Native Apps to act like they should but they don't with Cinemotion set to 'Auto' and Smoothness and Clearness set to 'Min.'
Did you find a solution or is it better after the update? I want to buy this TV (at least the European/German version of this, 55" xh90)
@@adrenaliner91 It's anecdotal right now, but I think it's been fixed for the most part after the HDMI 2.1 firmware update. Watched a couple of movies and only noticed stutter once. On the Sony support forums, they told me that Sony was aware of the issue and were working on a fix. Don't know if it actually made it into the update or not but even the Motion Flow bug seems to be gone for now.
@@IAMjessiebristol nice, thank you for your answer
Where was this TV when I was paying £1800 for my Sony TV!! 😂😂
11:12 underrated aspect of the video. King energy.
Ive owned two 65 q8 with full array local dimming for a few years because i got two for the price of one LG. If you adjust the settings correctly its barely noticeably diferent to the LG oled. and im a huge lg fan. I gave one to my parents and kept one for my main tv, I use it conencted to a 4080 gpu and it doesnt miss a beat. (i won the 4080 gpu so its total overkill for a sceeen thats not 120hz.) but i watch sport movies game etc and havent got a single problem with it.
Can you do a review for TCL C715? it's just came out where I live and the price for 50 inch QLED android TV is very appealing.
It’s a terrible tv. It doesn’t have local dimming and the peak brightness is poor. They’re just using ‘QLED’ to look appealing.
For some reason TCL decides to release shit tvs in the european market and keep the really good ones in usa
@@Retral it's just 500€ for a 55". Do you expect FALD at that price?
kuu yes. hisense has a FALD set for €600. 72 dimming zones and 700 nits peak brightness.
The TCL 6 series has FALD and is $450 but that’s only available in the USA. There is good value tvs, but the europe market is usually neglected
@@kuu_ yes since the hisense 55inch u7qf for 500e has FALD and good quality just not as much dimming zones and less bright than u8qf
Excellent review. It's just makes me think that those 10 dislikes probably meant for the TV,not for this review video 🙂
I'll get the Sony x900h instead. Processing is top.
Seems like this unit is not too bad however I feel like a few tweaks in the software could help a lot. Thank’s Vinny!
With great power comes great responsibility. And the tv peaks around 1600nit, what is crazy good key spec.
would you recommend u8qf or u7qf ?
Probably not as interesting, but I would like to see a review of the U7QF, since it still has 72 zones. Is it any good as a budget option?
U7QF for it's price is an absolutely wonderful TV. The only real downside is its motion handling during fast action.
@@Martinsamuli2 Would i ok for my new ps5?
@@milanbaros2005 This TV doesn't have HDMI 2.1 support, so You would miss out of the performance.
@@milanbaros2005 Don't worry. Most future new games will never be able to offer 4k 120fps. Developers already struggle to achieve those with cross gen games, so I would not count on it.
This TV is probably one of the best ones for a PS5, if you have a smaller budget and don't need OLED.
@@Martinsamuli2 Hello, I have U7QF in my home , I have this problem you say, But I am going to change it for a U8QF, do you know if u8 have the same problems?
Comparing the near black gradation shot by shot it really doesnt look that bad, especially compared to the same test on the Sony XH90
I know this one is a year late. I've had to deal with the local dimming being so aggressive that it crushes blacks and you end up losing so much shadow detail. I was wondering is there any way in the service menu settings that could help fix that so that it wouldn't be as aggressive but without turning blacks to grey? I know it will never be as good as a OLED but surely there is a way to improve the local dimming? i had a look at the service menu but I wouldn't know where to start on tampering with it.
I have a question, if you use high quality (good enough) content 4k Blu-ray/4k streaming or non compressed content like games, is the TV's processing important at all, say between a CX and BX.
of course, otherwise the image will have a lot of problems, motion handling, artefacts, color reproduction, etc
Could you please do a detailed review for Samsung's The Frame 2020 QLED? I've heard good things about it and I was wondering what the details would look like.
Hisense needs to teach samsung how to keep a low input lag without butchering the local dimming in game mode.
Hisense makes up for this with some awful motion blur instead though.
I leave game mode off where possible.
@@chilly6470 On Samsungs flagship QLED when you turn game mode off input lag is 76ms.
Agree 100% I had the Samsung q80t and couldnt stand how game mode looked. You had a tint green look in the background, black bar blooming that goes left to right of the screen (algorithm is crap) and crushed blacks in other parts of games I play. You would think for the money we spend we would have a more capable television. OLEDs are incredible but too bad they have a reputation for burn in and always have to baby sit them. Sony tvs like the x950h looks great no downgrade in game mode, you have a bit more blooming on sony due to lower local dimming zones but their algorithm is top notch. Games on screen run smoothly and input lag stays relatively low. Hisense H9G is one of the best tvs money can buy but hisense quality control for their tvs is what puts people off from buying them I just dont trust their durability given their reputation.
I thought they were using ULED for the dual layer LCD model. That's the one I really want to see get the HDTVTest technical review treatment.
@HDTVTest Hey VIncent, do you have any plans of testing Hisense dual layer lcd ?
They released new version for Australia this year. I think most of us (your viewers) will be very interesting to see the technology working in real life and compare it to the promises made during CES. Maybe also compare it to oled and local dimming TVs.
Thank you in advance!
Please, write part of settings for best view.

@@rocketman032 Sony xh9077 was on sale. I don't regret the buy.
WOW great review , dont understand it all but detailed !
What I would love to see tested is whether screen quality between different panel sizes in a series is actually consistent in the highend en midend range. I was recently looking at I think it was a Philips or LG (~€500) and the 55inch model received positive reviews on the black levels of its VA panel, but I wanted the 49inch model and only at the very last moment found out that the 49inch used a crap IPS panel and was horrible compared to the 55inch while being called the 'same' TV. Are TV manufacturers known to do this in the mid/high end too?
Hi! Thank you for this review. May I ask your opinion about the difference btw U8QF and U7QF. In my country the U8QF is +250$ compared with the U7QF. Is it worth it? I'm just casual viewer/consumer, not using the TV for gaming
Thank you for your reviews. It's at £450 in Costco so was wondering what I, a "poor", should buy. Not this one then ...
I was waiting for this one. It looks very much like hisense took inspiration from the samsung tv’s from 3 years ago.
But what if you add an nvidia shield to it, let it do the processing and solve all the issues
Is this actually a thing? Shield doing the processing?
Neal Burton the nvidia shield actually has really great upscaling. So setting the resolution on the shield to 4k and turn on the enhancement it’ll just feed the tv a great signal without the crappy tv processor in this thing having to do much work. Plus you have a fast complete smart experience
@@Zoranurai13 thanks! does the shield have any sort of positive processing effect on already 4k hdr material?
Neal Burton haven’t really tested much, so i can’t comment on that. 4k content from the shield looks about the same as an atv4k

I'm looking to get a TV in November but am stumped as to what to go for (should probably wait for black Friday). Looking for somewhere in the region of 65 inches, qled for around £800/900 perhaps
Will judder still occur if a 24hz input signal (not 24hz over 60hz signal) is supplied and motion interpolation turned off?
The TV can be had vor 699€ in Germany right now for the 55" variant.
There seems to be confusion:
Does the u8qf 4k60Hz HDR with 4:4:4 Chroma Subsampling?
Other YT review stating only 4k40Hz with 4:4:4 or 4k60Hz HDR with 4:2:2.
According to HDMI 2.0-2.0b specs the 14GB should be sufficient with 8-bit panel…?!
Which info is correct?
Hi have you found the answer?

What I don't understand is that TV runs at 120hz and ditches half of the frames? Like can someone explain how that works? Why have 120hz in the 1st place if it can't even handle 120 frames

I don't know, for me Panasonic GX800 series have better natural picture with only two dimming zones... 🤔
Does anyone have any general picture settings recommended to get as close as possible for the U7QF? I know the preset Cinema Night is the closest, but what about everything else?
Vince, I hope you can answer my question... What color should the paint be for the room where my TV is? Is your background wall 18% neutral gray?
So far in my research I found it should be either 6500k white point or 18% neutral gray... Are there other paints to consider or is this information so far wrong and what would be considered proper paint for the accurate display color viewing?
Note that I also have 6500k white point of 95CRI LED strip strapped onto the backside of my TV display.
I feel there is not enough talk on the internet about the room for the display specifically for the specific HT room... As the paint itself could alter the color viewing of the display...

Guys - strange question - but why does a 4K content being played consumes about 250 watts vs. up-scaled 1080p to 4k on the same TV consumes only 70-100 watts? Is this because 4k HDR? Generally the screen is not brightet overall so what is causing this extra consumtion? I do not think 4k video processing chip would consume 150w or does it? :)

I mean it doesn't get as bright. But there is a 48A8H available.
8k only matters in big sizes so a 4k Oled would be better for this anyway
So is this basically a U8G that is sold in the US with a nicer frame design?
@HDTVTest Hope you can help me. For Calibration I am using HCFR in combination with a Colormunki Display ("identical" results to a i1Display PRO, just slower readings) ... unfortunately there is still no Correction-Matrix for ULED TVs and I can´t use Samsung QLED Correction as it differs spektrum-vise. I guess switching to a X-Rite I1 Pro / EFI-ES 1000 Spectralphotometer would help more than upgrading to ChromaPure / Calman?
Maybe you could post your pre & post calibration-results / settings (despite every TV behaving "slightly" different) hoping to recognize some tendencies.
Regarding Dolby Vision Calibration:
I´m finding it extremely hard to get pleasing results as skin-tones are way to much on the brownish/green side. Any tipps here?
