At 7:06 Walcott is asked who was the hardest puncher he ever faced in the ring. Walcott starts to answer by saying “Marciano was one” but “I faced a lot of hard punchers in the 30’s”. He didn’t get to elaborate but he was about to say Tiger Jack Fox. I interviewed Walcott in 1974 and I asked him who was the greatest fighter he every fought was. He responded that the greatest fighter he ever fought was Tiger Jack Fox. Fox knocked me out in our first fight and decisioned me in our second fight. I rank Fox ahead of Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Ezzard Charles, Joe Baski, - - - all of them. I learned more in fighting Fox than I did in all my other fights in my entire career. There wasn’t anything that Fox couldn’t do in that ring and do well. *** He was one of our greatest fighters.”

Warner wolf turns 4 different colors when ROCKY was talking how he hated different ethnicities. The man was being honest. In his era this was common. Look at how Warner Wolf melted like RICOTTA.

I agree. And I think if he wasn't in the plane crash and put in a full body cast for 6 months his record would've been better. 62-0 to start his career, and then lost a UD to win 72 straight after his first loss. He once said if Sugar Ray Robinson is the greatest pound for pound then I'm the greatest ounce for ounce lol.

The point rocky is making when he says "I didn't like black guys, Spanish guys, Irish guys" he's very being honest like few of us will, he's not prejudiced - he just won't be afraid of the politically correct BS out there. That's the way it often is, you naturally stick with your own - but then he says "but after boxing all these guys, then I learned to respect each of them". That's Rocky keeping it real...

Fred Freddy I could see where some people could get offended, but I actually understood exactly what he meant , he hated everybody equally. Many ethnicities chose to ‘stay with their own’, which is their prerogative .

    • @doctortommy

Even back then people were too PC to discuss reality (he had preconceived notions about men based on color/ethnicity and then became aware of his own misconceptions and grew from it).

@@chucknchar I have a Sept. 1965 Ring boxing magazine that interviews Jersey Joe after the rematch. "Phantom Punch , Hell. " This Kid has speed in his hands and feet like a welterweight. He hits like a heavyweight. He puts his punches together better than heavyweight champion I've ever seen. He could beat Dempsey,, Louis, Marciano, and me.
Dempsey and louis and the rest of us would be too small to beat this big rangy kid. The right hand punch that Ali dropped Liston with is one of the most devasting punches I've ever seen. Sonny was hurt real bad."
Ali is decpetive. His punches are so fast and sharp. Ali never gave me a chance to start counting. I couldn't hear the count. Ali was like a wild man , running around the ring and shouting for him to get up..
That's about the summary of the article. Walcott may have changed his opinion later on.

Read my comment above. Rocky is explaining how boxing helped him to respect all people regardless of their ethnicity. Racism is learned through the ignorance of those around us as children. This man is explaining how boxing taught him to shed racism have a new awareness. The host is a moron for not fortifying the point Rocky is trying to make but Floyd Patterson gives Rocky a pat on the back letting him know he understands the point, is not insulted and that he gets it. Rocky found redemption through boxing.
