For added context, the original Indiana Jones trilogy is universally loved by every kid that grew up in the 80s, including myself. It was generally stipulated that since it had been nearly 20 years that the story was over, so right out the gate there was skepticism regarding Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. But nostalgia is a powerful thing, especially when the quality of newer blockbusters in the late 2000s was clearly trending downward, so everybody who loved the earlier movies went to see it anyway, basically hoping against hope that it would be good. I think all of this plays into how betrayed a lot of fans of the earlier movies felt. If it had not been tied to the Indiana Jones story and they just created a new protagonist, it probably would have been regarded as a decent action/adventure movie by late 2000s standards.
All of that being said, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was almost high art compared to the unadulterated ish-storm known as Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny.

Tru dat yo. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is flawed, one of the weakest entries, but at least it had soul. Even after breaking free from the Anti-Woke Grift Cult, I still think that Dial of Destiny lacks soul or heart, because I do consider Raiders of the Lost Ark one of my favourite films, topped only by Superman: The Movie, so for them to do the Last Jedi subversive-for-subversion's-sake treatment on Indy feels pretty tonedeaf considering that Crystal Skull, for its faults, had a perfect ending to the character.
Oh, well. Thank god for the upcoming Great Circle game continuing Indy's legacy in a satisfactory way.

The original 3 movies are loved, so when they came out with a 4th people were excited, but it was not what people expected. In addition to being considered bad by people, the story was kinda crazy and very unlike the original indiana jones' movies so it was like Lucas and spielberg just r*ped Indiana Jones because they didnt care about the story or the franchise but wanted to make a buck
The fact that made things more ironic now than when this episode came out in 2008 is that this is NOT the episode that banned all of South Park from China. That title goes to...Uh...Band in China [S23, E2].

I remember my mom cry laughing after she saw the part with Indiana Jones when I was watching as a kid in the living room. Because we all went to see Crystal Skull in Theaters. I have never seen her laugh like that again, and before that she used to say South Park was for idiots. 😂
Indiana Jones never got R'd in a movie lol. It's just the 4th movie was so widely hated amongst release (at least compared to the originals), it's as if the Director/Writers R'd Indiana Jones... thats the joke lol

1. indiana R scene stan watching alone is from ''Boys Don't Cry 1999''.
2. indiana R scene pinned up against pinball machine is from ''The Accused 1988''.
3. indiana R scene he squealing like a pig is from ''Deliverance 1972''.

I was born in 83, I have seen them all... they are very hard to watch. The pinball scene has been parodied so many times in other movies and honestly, I never found it funny enough to laugh at because that scene scarred me for life as a teenager.
@@JMulvy i agree that bar scene is disgusting and horrific. i thought deliverance scene was bad until i saw that. they made that scene quite graphic and more detailed. the crowd made it worse but i guess that was the whole point of the movie, just because you haven't done anything doesn't make you innocent.

The scene you're referring to is actually a spoof of the overblown hate the Prequels were getting online at the time, and as such you are once again taking things out of context to further an agenda, like any good toxic Star Wars fan.
Side note, the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull subplot in general is both a parody of the reaction to it, and a nod to Matt Stone's intense hatred of that film. Matt utterly HATED Crystal Skull, and so the episode portrays that film as being so bad it gives people grape PTSD after watching it.
You know how Cartmen expresses getting screwed over as literally being F’d by his mom. Similar idea where they felt like they were just abusing a franchise in a poor way. (Beating a dead horse)

I will always love Spielberg and George "Toy Boy" Lucas for the cinematic gems they gave us in the 70s, 80s and 90s but I don't think I can ever forgive them making Indiana Jones their own personal prison blow-up doll in the 21st century. Indy didn't deserve that 😢😢😢😢

All the SA scenes were references to SA scenes in movies. Boys Don't Cry, The Accused, and Deliverance. Each on replaced the characters with Indy and GL and SS. Pretty faithfully too.
In the Pandemic Guinea pig episode you reacted too a while back, during the interrogation scene, Kyle mention that one of their friends got r**** in Peru ( he was talking about the scene from the Indiana jones movie that they watched in The China problem)

I think that is more of a result of its satire tone and your own feeling on the subject. Matt and Trey are cinephiles and truly love and hate movies with a passion.
I think they are being honest about loving him that much and hating crystal skull even more,and acknowledge how bias they are,with Indiana coming out when they were 15,so it or probably shaped their childhood a bit.

Kingdom of the crystal skull was not even bad. No where close to the best in the series but it wasn’t bad. They should’ve ended on the last crusade but kingdom of the crystal skull gets way more hate than it should lol

No, indiana was never R'd in the movies, the movies are appropriate for all ages, action, adventure, kill'n bad guys, finding lost treasures... mostly of the religious variety. But IJ:KotCS had to do with aliens and it wasn't recieved well for introducing the NON-religious ANTI-faith tone that made the movie "alien" to the overall iconic and beloved series. Imagin if they made a new "lethal weapon" movie WITH mel and danny but they weren't armed and they were social workers now, it would not be recieved well either lol

I think, using Eric's nightmare to start a storyline is a known category now.
I have really mixed feelings about this episode. The Indiana Jones plotline is just one mediocre joke being beaten into the ground over and over. It wasn't really funny the first time and it definitely didn't need to be done over and over.
On the other hand Cartman and Butters were hilarious. I mean those 2 are usually hilarious when they get to be the center of an episode together. But this was particularly good. The actual China Problem part of this episode is peak South Park.

The Crystal Skull definitely doesn’t compare to the original trilogy, but it’s not as bad as everyone on the internet makes it out to be.
The only reason why I don't hate Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is because I forgot that it existed. Also Temple of Doom is way worse.

So, what they're trying to say in this episode was that the new Indianda jones movie that came out during the first airing of this episode was so bad that to the boys, it looked like George and Steven graped Indiana jones' career. It's taken to the extreme in this episode, making it look all tragic and sad and ish.😂 it's pretty much a metaphor for how bad the movie was. Also, cartman's f**king stupid as usual. 😂

I love Indiana Jones movies but the fourth film was so bad I felt physically sick while watching it. Haven't seen Dial of Destiny (the newest film in the series) and I doubt I'll never will. The first three films are great though. My favorite one is The Temple of Doom. ❤
