When I first watched the Water 7 Arc, I thought that Zoro was only loyal to Luffy and being completely dismissive of Usopp's feelings. After watching it several times I think that Zoro was looking out for Usopp by ensuring he wouldnt become the kind of man who couldnt own up to his own mistakes. All throughout Enies Lobby, I watched Zoro's interactions with Usopp and there was no animosity there. It's just as he said - he just wanted Usopp to do the right thing. And it wasn't just about Luffy either in my mind. Zoro is like Usopp's older brother too. And they're like a family and it was up to him in that moment to support both of those kids. To ensure that the one understood that he was the Captain of the ship and should not falter (he was really hard on Luffy here too, didnt even blink when our boy was bawling) and that the other would not try to get away from what he had done and sneak back onto the ship like nothing happened. Both of those little bros had bad habits that he had to ensure they didnt fall back into. Luffy being too goofy and not taking things seriously and Usopp being too much of a smooth talker with his lying self. I love them both of course. And after watching this as an adult (23) and seeing how well Zoro helped both Luffy and Usopp become better men (Luffy a better captain) I have to say I love Zoro just that much more too. He's not the typical emotional, lovey dovey guy, but he believes in his friends and believes that they can all be the best version of themselves. He sees them for what they are (Kuina feeling inferior bc she was a girl), accepts them, protects them and helps support them in whatever way that he can. That’s why Zoro is a great bro and my favorite character!
That Zoro moment is really one of the best moment in One Piece for me. You know the matter is serious when Sanji is siding with Zoro instead of Nami Also despite acting cold toward Usopp, Zoro is not heartless on the matter. Zoro said that if the first thing Usopp said is not genuine apology, he won't accept him no matter what. But Usopp did said nonsense at first, but he and Luffy pretend not to hear it until Usopp actually apologize. That fact with how he and Usopp interact during Enies Lobby really shown that how he hold no animosity toward Usopp despite what happened. He really want the best for everyone and don't want his friend to do the thing they will regret later.
To zoro, friendship is more of an oath to be there for your crewmates no matter. Like, he would be the first one to lay his life for any of them, so imagine how betrayed he must've felt when Usopp just left them. He and Sanji were even fighting because they felt frustrated to stop him from leaving given that they're kinda the reason for Usopp's feeling of inadequacy. Sadly most surface level readers still believe Zoro is an unfeeling serious guy who hates Usopp for what he did🤷
Luffy is lucky to have zoro fr,remember when usop left the ship everyone ran after him except luffy and zoro ..zoro was there standby watching luffy...although strawhats don't have a hierarchy but it's safe to say that he's the vice captain and probably most deserving too..
This was such a great episode especially how they pretend not to hear Usoop until he said sorry so they wouldn’t break their agreement. Zoro is the best 1st mate
Thats one of the best lessons in One Piece from Zoro... A man apologizes when he's wrong. Vain pride be damn bc its true pride that demands an apology when one is wrong.... Feelings and understanding aside, it wasnt just because Luffy was the Captain and Usopp disrespected him. Yes, Luffy said some shit too, but it was Usopp who was clearly wrong, the Merry was fucked, his feelings got the best of him and he ended up starting a fight and further splitting the crew in the middle of an already ongoing crises. Just because his feelings are understandable doesn't mean he was right to act the way he acted. Sometimes both sides can have justified points of view, or both have gone to far in the heat of the moment, and yet one of them still clearly be wrong, even though the other isnt technically right either... There was no scenerio where their journey together could have continued without an unconditional apology from Usopp, I would have demanded the same, and I would have lost a great deal of respect for the story without it, but Oda knows how to teach a lesson best. There's a reason Zoro was the only and last crew memeber in that scene who said anything right after Usopp finally apologizes, letting Usopp's name slip out his mouth. It shows 1) just how much Zoro actually cared that Usopp would make the right decision and apologize, and 2) just how proud Zoro was of Usopp when he finally does... Nami's tears say the same thing. Both were bursting with relief and pride!
The bond between Luffy and Zoro is not often highlighted as it is in this episode, but it is one of my favorite in the series. Zoro has been there from the beginning and seen what kind of man Luffy is, and the level of respect he has despite his own pride is awesome.
Because of this scene, at the age of 23, I learned even if its embarrassing, hurting my pride or what I have to apologize first if I'm wrong one 😆 One Piece all the way❤
Yep one piece just have so many things we can learn from, I learn about humility when Vivi told/show it to Luffy in drum island and of course there's so many even before that episode
One of the few moments where Zoro actually acts like the unofficial Vice captain of the crew ❤❤ What he said actually means more when you look back to episode 236 when he said "Dont lose yourself. If you waver, who can we trust?"
Usopp is one of the "mortals among gods" in the crew, and this arc was pretty much about him. I mean, the arc was about a lot of things, but it always began with Usopp's feelings of inadequacy entering his intrusive thoughts, causing him to act out in stress and hide in shame. Over the course of saving Robin, he learns. Sogeking teaches him bravery. Sanji teaches him usefulness. And then Merry (and Franky, to some degree) teach him that it's okay to let things go. Finally the arc ends with him trying to change from an immature kid to an adult who can apologize for his immaturity. And throughout it all, his feats were not due to any kind of arbitrary awakened power, but his growing confidence in himself. It's one of my favorite things in One Piece.
The fact that even zoro wanted ussop back shows that he cares even though he sometimes is harsh Cuz he said that if the 1st word he said is an apology then it ok But ussop blabbered stuff but they pretend to not hear
And fun fact when luffy and zoro said we cant hear, because as zoro said if he says bullshit instead of genuine apologies, they will leave. But luffy and zoro, understand that and how much they are willing to compromise and give chance to usopp because they know how he is, they said they cant hear it. Oda sensei is cooking so well.
Finally, the crew is complete again! 😊 But yeah, of course Zoro had a point about Usopp needing to take responsibility by apologizing first. At the end of the day, he chose to leave the crew of his own volition, so he couldn't just return and pretend that nothing happened. Still, in a sense, I think that Usopp's brief departure was just as necessary as Robin's, since it served to truly test the strength of the crew's bonds..... And yep, this is pretty much our first real glimpse of how beastly Garp is. Guy's practically a one man Buster Call! 😉

Zoro just meant if he didn’t apologize then they will leave him behind. He is their best friend. They were waiting for him to finally apologize because even though Zoro acted tough deep inside he was dying because he loves Usopp too
The good thing about thiss scene is when Ussop is saying useless things they dont hear him because in the flashback Zoro said that if Ussop doesn't apologize first then that's that. so when Ussop finally said sorry then that's the one they hear

"if the first words coming from usopp are a sincere apology, then we're all good."
*they were not*
even after laying down the law of the crew, zoro let luffy cut usopp some slack and was the first to back up his choice to do so by saying "i can't hear anything."
💚
😄
Zoro as a true First Mate. For me, Usopp would never have come back. Childish attitude in not respecting Luffy's decision.
