A theory i’ve seen around is that alastor deliberately doesn’t target women, and that he has a strict moral code. So what’s the deal?
In a 2019 livestream Vivzie explicitly states Alastor has killed women, but he has some type of weird moral code which determines who he kills. We also see this during the show, like during episode 5 where in the flashback he kills or traps several female overlords.
Alastor was also described as a momma’s boy in past livestreams.
Combined together we get a pretty clear picture of alastor’s personality. He’s a lawful evil sort of character, a bit like an antihero. He’s clearly bad, but he tends to go after strong targets that he’ll gain something from defeating. He gets on better with women compared to men, as seen with his relationships with rosie, mimzy and charlie. Which directly contrast his interactions with vox, husk and lucifer.
Personally i’d still consider alastor an equal opportunity killer. However it’s interesting that he has his own moral code, so we’ll likely see that expanded upon in season 2.

@@VayVieneI think it depends on how much he believes the sh!t he spews about angels being perfect and sinners being unworthy. If he whole-heartedly believes that, then as far as he's concerned he's fighting for "good". But if it's just an excuse to do what he wants, then definitely more on the "evil" side. I saw this one theory saying that Alastor hates the fact knowing he isn’t as powerful as he wants to be which is why he practically has a panic attack after getting hurt by Adam, and why he has such a strong reaction to Husk reminding him he’s on a leash too, and why Alastor hates Lucifer immediately. Because he hates knowing he isn’t the most powerful being in hell.
That actually makes a lot of sense. Although I don’t understand how that would be why he hates Lucifer, given “Hells greatest dad”
I thought he hated Lucifer because he is the reason for exterminations. Everybody hates him. Also because he hated his dad and want Luci to do better

The fact that psychopathic, cannibal eater such as Alastor would have a moral code on whom he chooses to kill and who he chooses to befriend himself with is an interesting outlook to his character
Calling him a psychopath is a bit much since he def has emotions of compassion and bonding at times, if he was a psychopath, he wouldn't love his mother or care for his old friends

In Alastor's backstory, as explained by Mimzy, he targeted Overlords to build his notorious reputation in Hell. Some of them were women, but they were powerful by their own merits. I could see Alastor not holding back towards strong women out of respect to their standing.
It seems that Alastor views himself so highly that killing someone significantly weaker than him is pathetic and beneath his stature. As you state he prefers to go after those who are perceived as strong since by killing them he proves that he is superior and should be feared by others. Whether or not they’re women I think matters little but he may have a general soft spot for women due to his strong relationship with his mom.
We do see him tip a jazz performer playing on the street in one of the prequel comics, although they leaned more androgenous then feminine or masculine
But the later in the comic we see him mess with a waiter in a cruel way, so it's equally likely he doesn't have any qualms about harming people weaker than him,
I feel like I read on the wiki that he tends to have a soft spot towards women more because he thinks they’re usually more intelligent than men.

Also, we should all consider that he grew up in a time when women were considered the weaker sex and, thus, should be protected. Chivalry was still very prominent and Alistor may think he's a proper gentleman, based on how he dresses and acts.

Honestly Alastor showing standards to not target the innocent is what I believe gives him the moral high ground to characters like Valentino who isn’t shown to have standards at all

What you're looking for is an anti villain.... A bad guy who likes being bad but does good things as well from their own free will and enthusiastically
In the prequel comic by Viv and the Pilot team, Alastor kills a sinner running a butcher shop for trying to attack a female sheep sinner. Alastor becomes visibly stunned and annoyed when the lady is attacked as hes leaving the store, having just threatened the butcher for attacking *him* moments ago. He says the following upon stepping back into the store and entering his full demon lanky antlered demon form that we see replicated in Episode 2:
“You know, I really do *hate* those who can’t…show a little respect to those of fairer means. It’s rather distasteful.”
Were it not for some kind of moral compass favoring women or the weak as implied, serial killer and mass murdering overlord of hell Alastor would certainly not have dirtied his hands for one young and random sinner he didn’t know.
Its also important to notice the distinction between his relationships with Husk and Nifty respectively. Since Nifty is literally summoned by Al, just like Husk, it is safe to assume she’s owned by him in some way. He treats her much better than Husk and seems to actually enjoy her presence. On the recent QnA stream Vivzie said they get alone well because they understand each other, which Alastor reprises in Episode 8 before the battle. He even allows Nifty to crawl all over him (even touching his ear floofs), while Viv has told us in the past that Alastor isn’t a huge fan of being touched especially with his ears.
In contrast, he considers Husk a “pet” and clowns on him 24/7. Even when returning from his presumed death in Episode 8 during “Finale”, he immediately gets in Husk’s face while singing his line in the last voice. Husk becomes visibly upset, while Nifty squeals in joy.
And of course, during his lifetime he was friends primarily with women like Mimzy, and that tradition has followed him into hell.
Yeah, I think he thinks of himself as a gentleman. His threshold for getting violent with a woman is a lot higher than with men, but we’ve seen him killing Exorcists, who seem to be all female.

And with mimzy, nifty, charlie and veggie he always comes when they are in need of assistance and offers it. Whereas with the men...yeah.

It’s that moral code that I personally think makes him so _interesting._ We know next to nothing about this man, all the other characters (other than, surprise surprise, Niffty) have at least given away *something* about themselves and he’s just there, vibing, being mysterious and honestly rather terrifying. I don’t exactly want him to become a villain but I’ll be damned if he won’t make a BRILLIANT one. (His part of Finale was far too villain-esque. He sounded more villainous than the Vees and they’re the _actual_ ‘bad guys’)
I really hope that moral code gets discussed in the show. Alastor can only remain a mystery for so long so I hope we’ll get some more lore that isn’t about how he came to power in Hell.
Also, I hope to see a more fair fight he is in next season.
Taking on Adam was a massive disadvantage for Alastor.

Vox is SPYING on everyone. It's no different irl. I'm sure a lot of people can understand Alastor's dislike for technology despite him being outdated.

I’d like to mention that it was also said that Alastor had a moral code akin to Dexter (from the show of the same name). The character is a forensic technician who solves murders, but also serial killer that only targets people he considers evil or guilty.
Considering his prequel comic, I'd say that checks out. As long as your behavior is like Charlie's, Alastor will not pose a threat to you.
He was both a radio host and a serial killer when he was alive, he probably reported on his own murders.

I think that Alastor mainly targets predators- which women can also be! The first person that we are shown Alastor killing is the boar demon trying to butcher a sheep demon in the comic The Radio Demon because he doesn't like when anyone abuses or disrespects those of "fairer means" and then in the show he doesn't actually kill sir Pentious (just beats him up and sends him through a portal, it looks like, and then their second altercation he just blasts him away) - he does kill the loan sharks that are going after Mimzy though. He viewed them as predators while sir Pentious he didn't even bother to remember his name. And then finally he is more than willing to kill Adam . His name also means Defender and Avenger which pretty coincides with how he is being portrayed so far.

Don’t know if it’s still cannon but the little comic featuring alastor is really cool. If I’m recalling correctly he kills or at least threatens a butcher who he just bought some services from because he threatens or is agressive to a female sinner. Don’t remember all of the context but has some amazing art!

i heared somewhere that he also does not harm children and if abandoned he'll seek the childs guardians and if unavailible/dead or unreliable he'll take care off them til they can take care off themselves on their own...

The moral code isn’t surprising since a lot of serial killers have a strange/messed up moral code, like one killer wouldn’t target anyone with children or a dog. It’s nice to see that side of killers portrayed in cartoons and not just the fact that they have/had something wrong with them and that’s it
Alastor gets along with almost all women, I said almost because he and Vaggie don't normally get along for obvious reasons especially since Vaggie knows what Alastor is capable of and doesn't trust him at first. Also you should mention that he gets along with Niffty as well and they both have a twisted mind, Alastor is like a father figure to Niffty even though he's her boss.

He just respects honesty and upfrontness. Loyalty. It made him drop his guard and not 100% selfish and abandon the hotel when it was a risky fight
Something that goes unspoken is that sinners have to do AWFUL things in order to become overlords, so, although I love Husk, we might hear some not very kind things he did when he was a proud overlord :(.
You also have to own alot of souls and Husk was pretty good at gambling so he probably gained most of his power by winning bets for peoples souls.

My theory is that Alastor doesn't target defenseless people. Cause In a prequel comic Alastor ate a guy for trying to kill a weaker demon.
While Lack of Power definitely seems like part of it, Respect plays an equal role. Charlie is implicitly more powerful than him due to her lineage, and Rosie is strong enough to be the first place he would look to for help, yet both are treated just as cordially as they treat him.

I like the one comic made with Vivzi’s information she gave at the time to them where Alastor let a sheep woman into the building where the butcher tried to attack her and Alastor just stopped dead in his track with an “oh hell no” expression before literally tearing the pig butcher a new one
Pretty sure it was stated in a livestream that although Alastor was a serial killer before he died, he didn't kill randomly. He targeted those who went against his moral code.

It seems the characters may not need to be women but rather feminine. Alastor specifically describes the character he defends in the comic as being of 'fairer means'. He also seems to view the abuse as being unwarranted or unjustified. I can imagine a scenario where he would be especially motivated to confront an irate Valentino that shows up at the hotel for a certain _effeminate fellow._
It is a significant enough that Alastor will use it as the sole reason to indulge his dark nature.
Yeah, let's be real, if Valentino shows up at the hotel and wants to force Angel to go to work, Charlie might give in to Angel telling her not to interfere. Alastor? He'd probably tell Val to leave first, and if Val decides not to listen, well, there will only be two Vees from that day on.

So I think he has some standards.
he’s a really good example of the anti-villain (not anti-hero) trope
From the era he's from and the way he acts it's likely he views women with a sort of innocence to be kept safe but this is not a concrete line for him, Rosie and Charlie act pretty innocent and good mannered well he turns on Mimzy (stops being very nice) after being reminded of her true nature.
He'll target the cruel and powerful before the week an innocent but what he views as innocent is a very personal definition and is somewhat tied to gender.
Alastor is the type of villain where he will lend a generous hand to you and is willing to play the long game knowing full certainty he will get what he wants even if it’s just tiny portions of it.
He’s already made a deal with Charlie who has so much untapped power we still have yet to see at it’s fullest.
Ultimately he’s pretty much won her trust to where he can continue “guiding” however he still has Lucifer as his biggest obstacle.
in one of the comics Alastor defended a female demon who was clearly weaker to her attacker as he see it as a pathetic way to kill and seeing hes old fashion killing has to be somewhat fair or atleast with some honorable grounds

There is a prequel comic of him defending a female sinner when she was going to be slaughtered and turned into meat by the butcher. He goes into a monolog on good meat and bad meat and hates on people who prey on the weak. He still doesn't comfort the victim as he leaves them to tell of what he had done to expand the news and gossip of his carnage as he cannibalize the butcher

I reckon it’s to do with them personally. Most overlords were evil, as is the Vees, and it’s stated that he’s Asexual so it’s not a sex related thing. My guess is he goes after people who deserve it, and targets people who he can get something out of at the same time. In his human life and now as a sinner.
He’s greedy, overly cocky, but does care about some of the people he hangs around with. He lets Nifty put a crown of roaches on his head and had a very wholesome interaction. He was the one to spark Charlie towards revolting when Adam comes. He was the one to always save Mimzy when she was in trouble. There’s a chance that part of his moral code is allowing sinners to be released. People taken advantage of like Angel Dust.
He doesn’t specifically target women but if they happen to be in his way and challenge him he’ll fight them the same as any male.

Also, if you consider the prequel comics to be canon, that means we've also seen Alastor save a random Sinner girl who was about to be killed by another Sinner. She was clearly very weak, given that she was screaming for help while living in Hell, and after having saved her life he doesn't ask for anything in compensation and just leaves.

I think it’s also he enjoys getting under Lucifer and Vox’s skin. Vox is 24/7 thinking about him, watching him and Alastor rarely mentions him. He sees Lucifer as a threat as well and I think he hates that Lucifer is able to get under his skin. The whole Husk thing is just the fact Alastor was able to trick him, most likely by cheating
Alastor targets people with equal or more power than himself, so yes, he's killed women, just not for the same reasons that most serial killers do. He's not into hurting things that can't harm him back. I suspect he often felt weak and powerless when he was alive and became obsessed with the idea of becoming unbeatable.

In case of Lucifer it was lucifer who disrespected him first (yeah Alastor had twitching eye when Lucifer hugged Charlie which was most likely just jealousy, but he did and said nothing).
Even with Vox you can see at the very end during Vees song a photo of Alastor that is torn in half which quite clearly was photo of Alastor with Vox, so they used to get along quite well too.
Angel and Al have barely interacted in the show, though. There’s not much to go off of, there.

Heck, he even treated egg bois well, not to mention that he accepted apology of Sr. Pentious (he didn't killed him previously, despite being attacked, yes, though in that case it was most likely because he found his futile attempts at harming him entertaining).
TL;DR Alastor is petty and possessive, and he have some sadistic traits, but he appears to be treating others well, unless they seriously wronged him first.

I mean I’m not sure if the prequel comics Vizzie made are cannon, but we specifically see Alastor leaving a meat shop after getting fresh meat, and he kills a male demon cause he was about to kill or at the very least r@p3 a female demon who was sinned form was a lamb/sheep. He says “I really do hate those who can’t show a little respect to those of fairer means. It’s very distasteful like bad meat”. Then rips apart the butcher who I think is a warthog?, packs up the butcher and eats part of him on his way out the shop.
So fair to say Alastor normally tries to avoid killing women.

Lawful Evil =/= Anti-Hero. I havent even watched the show but even I understand that everything Alastor does benefits Alastor in some way. Calling Alastor even remotely similar to an Anti-Hero is an insult to his character

From what I understand, Alastor grew up fatherless, which would explain why he doesn't get along with Lucifer and other men. You can tell from his speech in the pilot. He believes that everybody in hell is unequivocally evil and deserves to be punished, including himself. He shared a bit of his moral beliefs right there, and that he has them at all.

He also seems to be kinder to Angel, a femanine man. Although, pointed out below to me, it might be because Allister is Aro Ace and dislikes Angel's mask.
Kinder in the sense of, he doesn‘t interact with him at all. Viv once said that Alastor finds Angel loud and annoying, probably mainly due to Angel‘s offensive sexual behaviour, which obviously doesn‘t sit well with Alastor.

Another aspect of his code (that i have heard) is that he doesn't target children.

There’s a prequel comic from around the pilot days where he saves an innocent sheep girl from being killed by a cannibal butcher. He seems to have a respect for the innocent and a distaste for preying on the weak. He doesn’t like targeting those who are “out of the game” so to speak, like a deal making Mike Ehrmentraut
I forget he's a cannibal sometimes, but yeah, he probably either thinks that's wrong or he just won't get enough food from them so why waste the effort?

It makes sense, we as humans see stuff being done to children (Small, innocent beings that can’t protect themselves) as extremely wrong. Most criminals don’t do stuff to children and those who do are either killed in prison or shortly after they’re released

I think it’s the fact that he likes to be a gentleman. He expects all men to act like gentleman and considering where he is, that’s going to be hard to find but not impossible. As for the women it’s probably as long as they act respectful, and kind, and other attributes like that. That’s just what I’m thinking it takes to get somewhat close with alastor.

One thing I got from the episode he told Mimzy to leave, after bringing trouble to the hotel, was the muderous intent. Like he was being nice and giving her a chance to leave on her own accord, but the between the lines writing on the wall seemed to scream "leave or I'll MAKE you leave."
