HI Justin. so I grew up with listening to classic house ever since it began around 1987 1088. Thank you for the in depth video on how to make classic house or just house music. I made tracks before but I had no idea about key element of house music and that is the bassline and the melody are on the same notes/ key. I know there is tech house, deep house but nothing can beat the vibe of classic house music and acid house. Once again thank you.

The tip to only use one oscillator is pretty good - I don't think that's a 'hard and fast' rule but it's good because it will force you to keep it simple. The phase cancellation he talks about only happens when two oscillators aren't in tune (detuning will result in a 'fatter' sound but will have some phase cancellation). Remember, house music isn't necessarily using the most high tech instruments and super high quality sounds, it's about the groove and the feeling. So play around with the groove of the hi hats and the chords and bass, and if it doesn't feel right don't be afraid to move stuff around. Another tip he doesn't mention is that in general, you want to avoid putting bass notes on the quarter notes of the measure (when the kick drum hits). Again, this is not a hard and fast rule, but if you focus on the 16th notes AROUND the kick and snare, with swing, it'll feel much more syncopated and groovy.
I have been making music for 8 years now and consider myself an intermediate but still learned a lot from this video, especially the tip on including the snare in the hats midi file to make it more coherent was bomb
been djing old skool rave house euro italian house for the last 20 odd years now its time to make my first track,,, watched loads of vidoes and you just give me what i was looking for
A well constructed and straight forward approach to house music creation. I will take some pointers from this especially bass matching on chords, nice one
@1:51 "pull up some 909s"... ok but how? what do i click? (when starting from an arrangement with nothing already on it). @2:12 "the way that i've arranged these".... how do you arrange them? what do i click? (he is skipping lots of steps)
Hi all, Lewis Beck is starting his weekly show on how to make music today, 1pm EDT, on our channel! we also have $10K in daily giveaways from our partners!
I have been wanting to try something new to show my love of this genre for a while but never really understood it until this beautifully simple breakdown showed me where to start. thank you so much!
Tonight I just finished playing with a track which I do often lol. I have all the sounds and everything as I want it just I couldn't get a good formation that kept me intrested. This makes so much sense and I think when I go back to my track this template might just make it complete. I've been watching countless videos and this is by far the most simple and thought out explanation. Thank you.
Hi there, love this video! really good tutorial:) I was wondering if you have a tutorial to get to this point where you have what you produced, all the layers! So the steps before you got to this! Thankyouuuu!
Thanks for the Video! Apologies for chiming in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you ever tried - Riddleagan Beating Sonorousness Remedy (google it)? It is a great one of a kind guide for getting professional music production software minus the hard work. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my BF finally got astronomical results with it.
That's Awesome...Hey, I'm getting stuck in my making, is There a pattern as in regular music with house? I mean I'm from Chicago and been there With Farley, and all of the Chicago house DJ's. I used to dj a bit, but now I'm making it, but I really never listened to a whole album Haaaahaaa so I'm stuck, any ideas. Hahaha
seriously, the best video for those starting out and even for someone like me who has been dabbling in house music production for over 10 years, this has been super helpful...Thank you sir!
I think I'm being stupid or just don't have the correct plug-ins, but I can't seem to get the same features at the bottom for copying the hi-hats. The Roland kit doesn't come up and when I add the 909 kit to a MIDI clip, it doesn't feature the same layout or varied hi-hat options. Any help out there? Thanks!
So, micro chords are chords? So you have a fast A and a medium D, your S is way low and your R is at one third.I loved many a banging tune that sounds like this one.
Hi, thanks for the crystal clear example. I am from the UK and the 90s house music era was so great. Now I bought an interface (initially for vocals) I am taking advantage of the free ableton software. Thus to say, I was searching RUclips how to make music and it seems ii got lucky! As some other people have sat through hours of turorials and seem to be happy with your straight and to the point video as do I. As I am a TOTAL Novice, I have a question for anyone reading this post? Are the tracks you use, are they Audio tracks to start with or midi tracks? OR how many of each do you use? ANY advise would be appreciated, as I woudl liek to know how to set it up correctly.. ie so that i can do a tidy job. Ok well even if noone writes back, thanks for the knowledge.. ;)

I have been making music for 8 years now and consider myself an intermediate but still learned a lot from this video, especially the tip on including the snare in the hats midi file to make it more coherent was bomb

Look at the main swing on the channel rack (f6). You can apply the swing there, usually 56-59 depending on preference.
