Eric, This was an excellent video, but here are some additional tips I found work for me. If you squeeze the sides of the Mag tube, the base pads will come off easier. Also to remove the extractor easier, just push in the trigger bar safety plunger in and it will fall out. The rear pin is polymer, so you can't confuse it with the 2 trigger assembly pins.
Here are some points that should be clarified on reassembly.
The "leaf spring under the slide disassembly bar is important to inspect, as they can break and it will turn your Glock into a single shot pistol. Make sure you install the slide disassembly bar with the hooked edge facing to the rear. This engages with the barrel lug and keeps the slide from coming off the frame. When looking at the connector side of the sear housing block, the trigger spring should be oriented like an "S". On normal finished slides, the striker channel liner is hard to get out and requires some special tool to remove it and reinstall it with out damage. If you hammer it back in, you will bugger it up and the striker will not function properly.

I had a slip moment for sure. I knew all you had to do was push the plunger in and it would slip free. Luckily either method will free it up. That spring is tiny so it flexes super easy. Good tips overall. That's one of the cool things about RUclips is people can fill in bits I may have failed to cover. It's like a master class that everyone can contribute to.

I like to use a C clamp to get squeeze the sides of the magazine makes it easier and doesn't scratch it up like it would with channel locks.

Excellent How To👍 another excellent demonstration can be seen on The Glock Store by Lenny McGill 👍👍
This is the reason why this exclusive CZ owner has purchased my first NIB 2021 Glock G17L 6.02" barrel Gen3 pistol. Simplicity, parts support, 6.02" 9mm maximum ballistics. The Glock is the scrappy nephew of my H & K VP70Z which the Glock team studied for their first design proposal. Just like the Japanese motorcycle makers having a room full of British motorcycles to study so they then conquered the world. Not a bad thing.👍✌️☕🍩☕🍩🍺🇺🇲

@ 4:00 just depress the drop safety and the extractor and spring will fall out, you dont need to pry that out from the extractor side.

Thank you for this video Sir. I have been leery of complete disassemble of my 19 or 27 unroll now. Have always just field striped the firearm and wiped it down and oiled it. I just did a complete disassemble after your video and from 5+ years of use I couldn't believe what I was not getting cleaned and how gunked up the parts were.

  • @jeffspink4300

Eric, I love your videos but I see your having a bit of trouble with the Glock. First, the extractor is easy. Push the bearing spring button up into the slide and the extractor will drop out under its own weight then pull the bearing spring button out. Next, squeeze the sides of the magazine together while removing the base plate, it will come off with much less force. Hopes this works out.

I've rusted a 17 and a 43. I do really like Glocks and they are my everyday carry-go to handgun. Both mine rusted internally. I'm tired of hearing how rust resistant they are. And to only use 6 drops of oil. I now oil mine with a good coat of oil and do it weekly. Inside and out.

Eric thanks for making this video. I generally knew how to disassemble and reassemble a Glock before watching, but a few of the tricks you shared like wiggling the slide release as you try to remove the main trigger pin, and depressing the plastic cup on the firing pin to make removing the slide rear plate easier were really helpful. The knowledge is much appreciated!

  • @RogueTS1
    @RogueTS1 8 лет назад +1

Just a thought; should probably advise those watching that the Channel Liner (plastic tube that just fell out but is not supposed to) will not go back in fully without destroying it ,as demonstrated, without a special seating tool if the gun does not have a self lubricating finish as your demo model did. Without the tool on a standard finish the liner will not fully seat even with a mallet; it will just tear. With the tool it will gently push in. The tool is the other side of your Glock tool.

My grandfather used his Army Air Corps issued 1911 in close combat against Japanese soldiers when taking back island airfields. As a kid, I watched him wipe his 1911 down with oil every weekend.
In 1985 I first qualified with a pistol, I immediately recognized the 1911 that I the supply sergeant issued me. That 1911 was one of the last ones stocked in the armory and it happened to be made by Singer Sewing Machine Company. When shaken, it sounded like a bunch of loose ball bearings. I didn't know it then but but they were trying to use up all of the on hand. 45 ACP so that they didn't have to turn it in, just the brass. It took me 6 hours and more than a hundred rounds to qualify as a Marksman. My hands were bleeding, cut and bruised and I could barely move them the next day. The armorer laughed at me and said to ask for the M9 next time.
It was a great life lesson on persistence and following through on missions.

I needed to do a full strip on mine and used your video to help me, thank you. However, you may have caught this later, but when you put that takedown bar back in you didn't do it upside down but you did put it in backwards. You mentioned the notch for the spring but on the top of that bar on the side of the ridge there is a cut that catches the lug on the bottom of the barrels chamber. Did you catch it? Did the slide ram forward and off when you fired it? Anything happen?

at 3:00 "There is nothing that is going to fly out in your face..."
    FALSE!!!
I don't know why in the world he said that. See how he keeps his thumb over the opening as he slide the back plate free. Why??? Because the spring loaded ejector tensioner can fly out never to be seen again. I know this how? LOL
That tensioner tends to separate and then the top half vanishes into thin air. You can fashion a hard plastic disc until you can source a replacement on Ebay.
I actually lost mine when trying to slide the plate back on. DO CONTROL that spring assembly carefully! Same for the striker spring assembly

  • @deplorabledave1048
    @deplorabledave1048 3 года назад

No no no!!! Not a DRILL ROD! Face palm. The mag release is made from spring steel.
    SPRING STEEL!
Drill rod steel is quite ridged with only a tiny flexing in the thinnest of drill bits.

If you've got a 3D printer, there's a .STL file floating around to make a "Glock Mag Disassembly Helper" - a pin on it engages the floor hole to simultaneously grab the hole, and mash the spring plate's tab to push it out of the way, then you just use the handle to rock it, and you've got the plate popped loose and ready to be pulled the rest of the way off. Sweet gizmo. I printed one in PLA, and although to me it looks like it might break if you blew on it too hard, it's apparently strong enough - the first one I printed is still doing just fine after being used a dozen or so times, and shows no sign of wear or breaking. And if it does break, so what? I spend 5 minutes digging up the file and prepping it for printing, and let 'er rip. Half an hour or so later, I'll peel a new copy of it made with 25 cents worth of filament off the build plate. Without that tool, I find that Glock mags are a serious pain in the rump to take apart. With it push the pin in the hole, keep it pushed down and follow with your other thumb to keep the spring from going sproing as you rock the handle, and (in my opinion) the hardest part of disassembling the entire gun is done. Makes it so easy I'd bet Autumn could do it.

At 27:10, huge mistake. According to Glock Armory School and every good Glock armorer I know (ie Johnny Glock) one MUST make certain that the end of the striker spring does not rest in the split between the two cups. This is supposed to be critical for a reason I am not certain of.
Rotate the striker spring so the end is resting half way in between the split in the cups.
This positioning must be monitored all the way during lowering the assembly in to the channel liner as the spring can easily shift during this step.

i dread having to completely taking apart my gun. I know how to clean a basic field strip but i know after 1000 rounds you have to take all of it apart so do I have to do what this guy and take every little part out for a deep cleaning??

Especially if you’re regularly field stripping the pistol and keeping her lubed you shouldn’t have to completely disassemble said firearm after only 1000 rounds. Especially if we’re talking about a Glock, you’re good to keep shooting man

I could never disassemble my Glock that much UNLESS I have a 2nd firearm because I get anxiety seeing all these pieces laying there and I'm defenseless 😭😂

~If you replace any part of the Glock's Trigger Assembly, BE SURE to check that all three of the three Drop Safeties work as they should. There are Videos on RUclips that shows you how to do this. It's not hard a all.
~When resembling your Glock, remember to put plastic touching plastic and steel touching steel. Don't reassemble with plastic touching steel.

Older video I know I’m late. But I had to do some “bedtime RUclips scrolling” and came across this. I have field stripped my Glocks and I have went further to install other parts, pretty much learned how to take them apart from watching RUclips videos like this one and now I feel like a Glocksmith! I love the simplicity of Glocks and I especially love you can completely disassemble them with just 1 or 2 tools (maybe 3 for ease). Gaston Glock was and is, an engineering genius!

Annoying frenchman here. At 18:30, you install the slide lock with its lip facing towards the muzzle of the gun. Which seemed logical to me until I looked at the protruding guide rod when my gun was reassembled. When the slide lock is installed the other way around (as recommended by other take down guides on the net), the guide rod seem to be properly installed.
    Any advice ?

Please please please do a CZ75 complete dissasembly. There aren't any on RUclips that I found. There's one for a CZ SP01 but it's kind of dark and hard to see.

PLEASE PLEASE make a video like this for the ruger lcp. No one online knows what they're doing and actually damage their guns when disassembling. There isn't a single video online on the subject that is accurate. I feel like you would do it justice!

Kinda funny. I just bought my first Glock. A G-19. Fired it for the first time last night. Put about 120 rounds through it and it should be broke in. Thanks for this vid.

I use a Glock tool to disassemble my Glock. No hammer/punch. It's best to use the tip of your tool to remove the locking block before you pull out the trigger assembly. Doing it this way - with using the trigger assembly to wedge out the locking block might result in damage to the trigger assembly. IMO.
