Please, no. Even if we win the tournament it would be in spite of him not because of him. We need a manager with a bit more balls to drop players and who is better tactically, and who makes subs with enough time to make a difference. Watkins for Kane was a good sub as it was the first time the Netherlands had to deal with any sort of movement but was barely on the pitch to make a difference.

Let's have look at some facts. In the 70s/80s/90s, English footballers had a drinking culture, so didn't succeed at the highest level. During the so-called golden generation the players didn't really like each other, so didn't succeed at the highest level. Yes, the positives that GS has done are to bring a team spirit, and address the problems we had with penalties, but that's it. He started this tournament playing 3 right backs, which tells you everything, and being in the final is where we should be with the players we have. The best managers get the best out of their players, and overperform. I certainly wouldn't swap GS for the manager of the team I support in the 4th tier of the football pyramid, so pretty please can we get a different manager for England.

However, every game has been a struggle, when in reality we haven’t faced any team in the top 10 until the Netherlands. We’ve looked shite and only made it through games through individual moments. Yes, some players have been way off it, but then it comes down to the manger. For example it’s so clear Harry Kane needs to be benched

He’s taken criticism and flack because this tournament in particular we’ve been extremely lucky to have got this far and the Holland game was the first one we’ve looked like we should do. We only got to extra time against Slovakia because of a stoppage time overhead kick, we had to take Switzerland all the way to penalties, and a hallmark of Southgate’s tenure is being beaten by the first decent team we come up against. It’s just luck as to what stage that might be, 2018 was the semis, 2020 was the final, 2022 was the quarters. The only team we’ve faced that should’ve been a challenge before we’ve been knocked out was Germany in 2020, but that was probably the worst German team in a long while
