It's funny how Magnus's face always looks like a clueless kid, even in his stream he always has this expression.
Never in my miserable life watching anything more interesting than this straight 40 minutes without breaks. Truly a master itself. Kudos to you, Sir.
Deep
At the end, talking about Anand's comment about meeting Magnus' pace, and how you should create your own pace, is a very interesting catch. Especailly since this is mostly what Magnus does, as Anand and Caruana both are experts at preparations and working with computers before matches, and Carlsen's response to that type of play is normally to play something "Magnus-like" and force them out of their preparations, by simply doing something so crazy and unexpected they would not have prepared for that variation.
Levy is so good at story telling that I feel like I'm in 2013 and sometimes forget I am in 2021
I was in Chennai at the time. Despite Vishy losing which was something I was sad about, Magnus played so well. Ra4 is something I remember watching live and I thought it was fine. I would love a video on the Botvinik system?
One of the most dynamic and positional systems, which can be played with both black and white.
Great video Levy! I hope you make more like this. An overview and analysis of several games, a selection of entertaining footage, and a history lesson all nicely packaged together within the broader context of the tournament. It's just a seriously great video among everything I've seen. I can't understate this. I get tired of the cheap content makers just swiping clips from people's streams and being total garbage click bait. This is the opposite of that and it's damn refreshing. I bow my head to you sir. Know that you are more valuable than the queen and most appreciated.
Levy's explanation of the rook and pawn endgame of Game 6, the idea of being just in time, is chilling. Riveting and so satisfying. Thanks Levy.
Hi Levy, I’ve been struggling with mental health issues pretty badly over the last few months. Your content helps me so much in terms of just being able to focus on something else than my problems. Carlsen has the positional skill of Karpov and the calculating attack strength of Kasparov. Perhaps not quite as powerful as either in each individual category but an insane blend of both.

You should do a series of these type of chess history videos about different players. For example you can make a video on Kasparov's or Anand's world championship runs and more. Its very interesting and very informative.

I’m in to board games and my mom wanted to do handmade Christmas gifts last year. She made me a really cool epoxy/acrylic board and pieces that she worked so hard on. But I hadn’t played chess in like 15 years or so.
These videos have me so hyped to relearn though! I downloaded Dr. Wolf, been watching guides and playing exercises. I think there’s even a pretty active group in the area that goes to cafes.
Nice! How is that going for you right now, 4 months later?
31:00 Pretty sure 4. f3 is the Kmoch variation. The Sämisch is after 4.a3 Bxc3+ 5. bxc3, although the game did transpose into the Sämisch with f3 played
Thanks a lot for this video. Also can you make recap of Vishy Anand vs Boris Gelfand if possible. One of the games is very small and great, where the queen gets trapped very early and Boris Gelfand resigns
Anand was not only a world class player but a gentleman..but in truth psychology can play as big a factor as talent.Magnus is known for grinding games pot and Anand was prudent to take this into account
Who else wants that range compilation off GM in press conferences?
I think moving that pawn as the 58th move was the tactical flare. Another fantastic video thank you.

Please do make a compilation of absurd questions players get asked!
21:46 ah yes the famous “pawn h3 to e3”, doubling up on the e file preparing for d4 and pushing the bishop back
Actually, it is super amazing for me, to find out this video by Levy today, I was just thinking about the same idea, to cover those matches when Carlsen became the world champion and when he retained his title, just in time.
I think Annand made a mistake revealing his team. Magnus has shown an alien brilliance to remember games/positions and I'm guessing he was laughing because he then knew EVERY possible opening he could face.
Its not new in prodigy chess players to accurately remember chess games WITH their dates too. Hikaru has shown so, so has Wesley as well as Anand. It had a lot to do with tact more than opening intel but yeah you do make sense here.
Absurd questions in chess interviews compilation sounds like a really cool video idea!
Waiting for the next part of Vishy winning the candidates and challenging Carlsen in the world championship after 2013. Make it happen levy!!! Amazing content as always ❤️
1:00 Hot take: the tiebreak system is fine.
ANY tiebreak system will be controversial and unsatisfying; head to head seems logical to start, and no matter what Anish says, the last thing we need just to give these guys more incentives to draw.
I keep hearing complaints, but not many specific ideas for a better system, as far as I’ve seen.
omg it's so horrible they have to do the press conference thing straight after the match.
Good review. If you could do a similar video on Kasparov vs Deep Blue and the rematch vs Deeper Blue it will great.
I'm new to your videos, GC. You jam them full of thoughts and information. Subscribed.
