It's not the end if the world I suppose if it gets tugged on and starts to rip. You could also go under the steering wheel and remove the screws and pop the clamshell off around the column. It'll allow you to take the entire top piece and bezel off in one piece.

I can't get my panel high enough to get to the screws because of that piece of material on the steering wheel ..what do I do?? :(
It only needs to come up a little bit. If you raise your tilt wheel as far up or towards the seat as it goes, you should have enough room
