    The Playstation "appeared" cheaper, but in reality it was not. The Saturn came with a game, and had save memory built in. The Playstation didn't have a game, and needed a memory card bought seperately to save anything. By the time you bought a game and a memory card, the Playstation was not cheaper.
    I'd still take the Saturn and original Daytona any day, and i did on launch day too!! It was still a much better game than Ridge Racer.
    The top speed is exactly the same between auto and manual on Sega Rally.

    • @JaydenPixelsTV
      @JaydenPixelsTV  Год назад +2

      Wow. I really didn't account for the memory.
      I did read up somewhere (I think SegaRetro) that your top speed increases by 10mph. I'll admit that I feel much of a difference

      @CaseTheCorvetteMan Год назад +1

      @@JaydenPixelsTV In Daytona USA the manual is 10kph faster than the auto, and that is consistent on all the Saturn version cars too, the arcade version was 315kph for auto and 325kph for manual, but drafting other cars you can easily go another 10+ kph over that.
      I think it was 196mph for auto and 201mph for manual.
      Sega Rally it doesn't change at all though, the auto is basically a manual but the computer shifts the manual for you.
      I can't remember the price of a memory card back when the consoles released, but i think it was $60 AUD for a Playstation memory card. The Sega Saturn here was $799 AUD with Virtua Fighter and one controller, or $899 with Virtua Fighter, Clockwork Knight, and Daytona USA + two controllers, and all the packed in games were full retail versions, not just a disc in a cardboard sleave. The Playstation was at least $699 and came with no games, although there was a demo disc included, i think it was called Demo One, and that came in a carboard sleave.
      So all added up, Virtua Fighter was $79 when they did start selling it seperate, and it came free, if you bought a game and a memory card you'd have been at about $840ish AUD which is $40 more than a Saturn for the same inclusions, but for another $60 you'd have had 3 games, 2 controllers, and a Sega Saturn.
      Yeah, the Playstation was cheaper if you said it real quick, but it wasn't cheaper on paper ;)

      @@CaseTheCorvetteManMaybe I gotten the two mixed up with the auto and manual with both games. $799 AUD sounds wild. Thanks for the corrections! It's really interesting learning about the market back then.

      @@JaydenPixelsTV almost everything is more expensive in this country, the taxes and import duties we pay in Australia are beyond a joke to be honest. In many ways it seems to have gotten worse as time goes on, but anyway!!
      As time went on the support for the Saturn by Ozisoft in Australia obviously wasn't overly strong, a lot of shops that had sold and still sold the Megadrive and Master System did not stock the Saturn, and when they did it was a budget console at the end of life. At one stage buying a brand new Sega official Saturn control pad would actually get you a cheap rubbish Honey Bee branded Saturn controller that had been licensed and re-boxed here in Australia. For a while that was all you could buy, the support by Ozisoft was so poor that they didn't even bother to stock the proper original pads, likely they felt there was not a strong enough market for them or the Saturn....

    The control of this game is in a league of its own. Drifting around corners has never been more precise and satisfying. I will never get tired of playing this masterpiece.

    How refreshing. This looks like actual Saturn gameplay footage, not some super crisp emulation that seems to infest most Saturn review videos these days. Much appreciated.

    Sega Rally, Colin Mcrae Rally, and Gran Turismo got me into racing games when I was a kid - pure class all around. Still play and look great in 2023. 👍

It was a whole nother level of feeling amazing : D

    As a kid, I disliked this game because I felt like the cars were too greasy. If I couldn't make it around a track without touching the walls I thought it was the games fault. I mean, if I could perfect Ridge Racer and Daytona USA, but not this, then it must have poor handing. As I got older, I just realized you can just have fun with racers and not be perfect to still enjoy it. Revisited Sega Rally a bunch this year.

    A little unfair to compare Ridge Racer with Daytona in its homemade versions, Daytona is much more complex, more cars on the track, all with visible damage, more tracks with lots of detail and advanced AI, no hardware of the time would be possible to reproduce in a homemade way, so the Saturn did beautiful for 95 in addition to maintaining arcade gameplay despite the lower fps.

    I see what you were trying to do with your video, but 6 minutes in before you even start to discuss the actual game. I almost clicked away (and this was one of my favorites on the Saturn) when it seemed like it was the wrong video. Maybe disperse the history/background throughout the review.

    • @JaydenPixelsTV

      Thanks for the criticism! I really do appreciate that. The history part is a bit too long. I'm gonna tweak that for the next video. Thanks again man.
