This sounds very much like what I was like as a child. it is super relatable.

When you mentioned marbles, I _audibly_ gasped. I used to have a huge marble collection, and I never played with them in the "typical" way. Like your cars, I would admire them, just feel joy for owning them and being able to look at them. I would sometimes sort them by type and size and style, and look through the transparent ones because, y'know, "fascination with lights and colors" 😅 I absolutely loved what I called the "dinosaur egg" marbles, and the matte finish ones too. I wish I still had them 🥲

Lol, you had me at encyclopedias...I actually listed that in my childhood traits during my assessment...I read my grandparents 20 year old encyclopedias cover to cover in elementary school (this was also pre internet days, I'm 46)

What a massive list to get through. This was really helpful for helping me think back to my childhood, too. You’ve made me curious about my childhood medical records.
I highly recommend the Gresham college lecture by Francesca Happé. It talks about boys lining toys up (which looks “unusual”) vs girls lining toys up (aw, so tidy!”), and is otherwise just a really great lecture.

Interesting! I’ll definitely look into it 👀

I definitely did feel myself outgrow my toys, but I still felt deeply connected to my toys even though it wasn’t exciting to play with them like it used to be. I would still pick them up and arrange them and connect with them from time to time, and when my cousin came over and I had an excuse to pull them out, it was nice.

I also felt very confused. Like, now what do I do? Just read and watch tv all of the time??? It left a big hole.

Thank you Paune for being so transparent. I too sucked my fingers and related to so many of yours. Well done for all the self reflection and work you've done on yourself. You are very self aware. I wish I'd known earlier, I'm nearly 60 and still acknowledging and processing this all. 😊

Yeah i relate so much with u. Movies are so important to me too, like had a huge affect on my life. My favorite one that my siblings and i were all obsessed with was alice in wonderland, which we never even owned, we just rented it from the library over and over and over. We memorized songs, quotes it. I quote movies quite a bit, and sing parts of songs repeatedly. I still quote alice in Wonderland and make references to it.
I didnt read dictionary or encyclopedias but my thing was numbers. I would take a number and just double it over and over and over just for fun. And once i learned how to change the base of a number i would do that, i would take a random minimum 4 digit number and change its base to 9, then 8 and all the way down to 2.
I was also very organized with my things, would line things up and make it perfectly perpendicular and stuff. I realized that this was odd tho and as part of an effort to seem more normal i tried to become more messy. I'm not so organized at all now.
I also think i took things too seriously and was a perfectionist as well. I envy people that r more chill. I try to seem chill, i think that is maybe the mask.
I get car sick too, have to look out of vehicle. Im usually driving so I'm fine but as a passenger i can feel sick even with looking out. I certainly could never read in a moving vehicle, i would throw up, wouldnt even dare to try playing a phone game
PS. I forgot i really wanted to say that i was afraid of losing my pretend play too. I didnt want to become some boring adult, it seemed like a fate worse than death lol

I haven’t really mentioned numbers & calculations but yeah I also have an interesting relationship to them; I was really bad at advanced maths because I wasn’t interested in it and found it meaningless (what I call advanced is post-primary school stuff lol) but find the basic maths stuff really fun and to this day I find a lot of joy in calculating seemingly useless and random stuff like how much of our lives we spend brushing our teeth on average 😂 as a child I’d also pass the time counting as far as I could in my head 👍

@@paunesjourney yeah I like doing math by hand. I also liked algebra, and precalc, that stuff came easily to me. It was my happy place
