The sword in Japan is not merely a weapon, it is a sublime piece of functional art, with deep spiritual and historical significance to the Japanese people. Just like Mount Fuji and Cherry Blossoms, the Japanese sword is an enduring symbol of Japan. It is my hope to share my love and passion for Japanese swords with all of you here on RUclips and make the Japanese sword accessible to the world by introducing the Japanese sword to new audiences from a Japanese perspective. That is why I created this Channel for the promotion and preservation of Japanese swords and related craftsmen.

I can only imagine the swords you have got to see and hold in your day!!What a Wealth of knowledge you have that I would to talk to you about!I live in Portland Oregon, and unfortunately there is realy noone here to talk about nihonto, I dont know anyone here with my love for the Japanese sword and culture,or stores that are Japanese. However 10 years ago when u got into All things Japanese haha,I found alittle store who has knives, swords and lots of antique Japanese swords and other things.I became friends with David, the owner of the store, then I met Steve Strauch there. He taught me Alot about nihonto, koshirea, different ryu's,togoshi ect. I then taught my self Tsukamaki and made new Tsukas for several of my lower nihonto, mostly in gunto koshirea.I then was training iaido and was going to join kendo and be trained by Steve himself. Long story long, before I could start I came down with several autoimmune illnesses that just took the life out of me and I could not physically train...it was one of the hugest blows to my life. Now I watch videos and reminisce about what could of been haha. Ah man,I apologize and please forgive me for the long comment 🙏🏼Lastly I wanted to say I realy enjoy your videos, they being me happiness!Have a great day sir!And please stay safe!

Thank you so much for your comment! I hope to bring more videos this year as I realised more than ever (especially during this pandemic) that I live quite an extraordinary life, and that people don't have access to things that I do, and I want to try and share with the world. I wish you the best.

I can attest to the fact that there is no substitute for seeing a real nihonto in person. As an American, most of my peers do indeed view these as nothing more than "cool weapons" as you say. After obtaining my own and seeing it up close for the first time (and mine is even out of polish and slightly damaged), my mind is permanently changed. I felt the spiritual aspect immediately while I was first oiling it. Thank you for these videos Paul, keep up the good work spreading this important knowledge!

Something that can be hard to get across to others that do not share this deeply compelling path of what can only be universally recognized as spiritual...
    Thank you.

Although watching with auto-generated English subtitles is an incredible experience already. An example at 13:13 when Paul Martin offers her the sword: "Three bushel form. Manufacturer of the US curve pmi still correct". To this she rightly replies "Yujinesu director investment pepper taste".

    日本人の日本刀好きも、武器か美術品かの二項対立で日本刀をとらえがち。じゃなくて、武器と美術品の融和が日本刀を日本刀たらしめている。
