Those two boys are absolutely adorable and they appear to be very well behaved! Their parents should be very proud of them.
Please beware of possible asbestos in the concrete etc. ( all works which were done in the twenties, thirties or later on), or also lead paint remnants. I´m glad that you´re saving the chateau. It´s truly an important historic place.
I have been uncovering my lost garden, restoring and landscaping my little quarter acre cottage for years now. I bought it as a single mum of 5 young kids with a spinal injury, by scale it’s my château project. Your show and those like it are my motivation through all the aches and pain, the freezing cold bonfires till 3am. All the horrible weather and financial set backs. On days of frustration unable to move from over doing it you remind me when I’m about to give up. Anything is not nothing and all those little jobs in the end add up to something Amazing and one day I will have something money just can’t buy. Thank you, if only you knew how much it helps, Thank you
I think you should be wearing a hard hat when you're down below, inside, or underneath any structure. Worker boots or hard soled shoes would be a good idea as well, instead of the sneakers I see you're wearing! Take great care. It'll all be for not if you get an injury. Good luck with this restoration! What an amazing project!!
I agree. When I watch Dan wandering about the basement my tummy goes squirrelly. Please be safe Dan.
I’m not sure about France, but I do know here in the U.S they do sell steel toe sneakers.
I was going to say the same thing. I see all that loose rubble on the very top of the building and it makes me nervous thinking it could fall with the slightest shift of the earth. Plz be careful Dan
@@lornanorris1363The whole place is a death trap. They need to hire a big excavator and push the whole building over in a day. And then send the rubble off for crushing into hardcore.
@@PreservationEnthusiastthat’s the spirit!
I can only imagine how beautiful this home once was. She deserves to be well taken care of. Can't wait to see her come back to life.
I've totted up what very roughly it might cost to renovate it to be a lovely place to live. I'm close to €1m. The roof alone is $150,000+. But the walls need to be made good. That's probably £50k. Then the new internal floors, €50k each floor. Then staircase. €30-50k. New wiring and plumbing. €100-150k. New heating. €30k? All internal renovation and decorating, that depends on quality, but for a place that size its €100-300k. Plus contingency for unexpected costs, which are always part of old buildings. €100k.
This will obviously be across 10 years? I hope this channel explodes! It'll be fascinating to watch. Like the wildest Grand Designs but in real time!
I know a few people may have said it, please be safe. I know those walls have been standing for awhile, but the last thing we want to hear about is you getting injured due to a collapse. Good luck in getting it all structurally safe and cleared out.
I think it is too much for one person; and the cost of renovation; plus heating it in winter:
@@jennymay4720 The only way to run a place like this is as a business venture. As a home it's impossible, it's simply way too large.
This house deserves to be restored, the ones that built it did it well, the condition of the outer walls are very good after so many years of being neglected.
It's impossible to say just looking at the walls. They've had fire damage, and years of water damage. The tops of the walls are rubble. Water will have got deep into the brickwork. A structural engineer needs to look at it.
How much did it cost? Don't think Dan has said?
Thank you for sharing this adventure with us. I look forward to this vlog each week. I'm in America and don't have a chateau but own a 118 year old home which we are taking time to restore. The work is not nearly as daunting as yours, but the respect is there for the value we see in these historic treasures. Very best of luck!
Good for your restoration of your home. So many abandoned houses, property left to decay. Other u tubers do tours through the forgotten places makes me sad. Keep up your restoration.
One in North carolina you can stay at
I’m in Canada and own a 145yr old home. Same thing. It got the 1970-80’s treatment 🥺
It will be interesting to watch the boys reaction as they get older and fully understand what you are doing. Hopefully they will be as much in awe as we are of the challenge ahead of you.
I just love your energy and ambition. You have no fear of work that is for sure . I am a 80year old lady who can’t wait to see your videos each day .
Great peek at the chateau. I also love hearing the boys’ voices in the background. What a thrill to grow up in such a magical place, learning their future skills with Dad. 🌺
I’m pleased that someone else heard the children’s voices, thought I was hearing things.
This building, those walls totally deserve to come back to life!!! I loved the sound of the boys' voices in the background, it made everything less surrealistic!!! Thank you, Dan!!!!
It wasn't only me, I kept getting distracted by the boys' voices.
You are brave and a bit crazy to tackle the renovation of this chateau! I look forward to being part of this adventure😊
This is so cool. I would love to restore a historical building like that
This is the third time I've watched this and I cannot believe the amount of progress so far (to July 27, 2023,less than 10 months).
Debris from the north basement, grand entrance room above, east section; and the grounds and driveway (omg what a difference). Then there's reconstruction: landing area 3 floors, and east section 2 floors with the floor of mansard roof level imminent (on the 3rd level). I'm so impressed!!!!!!!
Congratulation to Dan (90%), his little apprentices, orange pants man and the team of Nick and Cameron. Fabulous job done guys. You should all be proud.
Oh my goodness Dan!
look at how many new subscribers you have!
I’m so proud of you excellent videos I love everyone
He is very well supported by fellow chateau owners with chateau channels like Billy from the Pethericks and Stephanie from La Lande and that makes all the differance! But very well deserved as well! Dan makes great vlogs!
Dan you are more of a visionary than I could ever be. Congratulations on your new home project. You have a number of years hard work ahead of you, but oh the rewards when you hit each goal. I’m excited for you and will be following your adventures happily. Best of luck to you.
Just breaks me to think someone maybe destroyed all this, you’re the man to make it all better.
Awesome vlog, Dan! So so interesting!
Hope I live long enough to see
all the restoration! 🤣🤣🤣

What a hidden treasure and we get to see it right from the start. What a thrill and addictive viewing. What I'd give for loads of strong volunteers to help you clear the floors and debris. What a luxurious chateau it has been and knowing you Dan will be again. We are so lucky to have years of watching and admiring ahead of us 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks for taking us along. Your statement “there’s a tad bit to do” is the understatement of the year 😂😂😂Looking forward to seeing the weekly vlogs. Looks like your boys are having fun as well. Until next week, take care and be careful 😍😘
Watching you put it all back together is going to be really fun!
Nick has been a great help to the chateau owners, even though his English is a bit challenging to understand lol. He seems like a good guy! Love the story with the progress!
Dan your progress on the grounds is just amazing, the basement rooms are a lot cleaner than I thought they would be, do you have any family, friends that could lend a hand, this is a massive job for just one man, God speed my friend, I do have one question does your chateau have a name.

Major blessings on this journey Dan (and fam?). It's pretty impressively massive!
Dan the fire must have been like a towering inferno. Such a shame. I’m looking forward to seeing your progress with the restoration. I hope you’re going to get some help with it. Good to see Jack and Thomas.
Would be nice for neighbors to lend a hand in cleaning up the property.
@@funguykel Maybe the insurance would be very high.
iit was a fire set on purpose, after they emptied the place. then they took the insurance money, but did not repair the building.
Yes-it’d be a huge help.
@@thefunhouse-jayburchfinear7617 I kinda suspected the place had been stripped before the fire. The two bathrooms don't have a whole lot of fire damage but some substantial bits are clearly missing, like both toilets and the second floor bath. Sure, a bath could melt in a raging fire but surely that would leave a puddle on the floor. I once saw a bathroom where about a third of the bath had melted in some failed DIY chemistry experiment and you could definitely see the remnants on the floor.
Money, enthusiasm and time......pick two........you will never have all three.
What an incredible challenge! You seem to have an endless amount of energy for a man of slight stature. You are not lazy or afraid of hard work that’s for sure. I’m looking forward to watching these videos so much.
I love the facade of the Chateau! Really unique. Can't wait for next episode!!
Takes a creative person to imagine just what it can be. Dan has proved himself in that regard. We look forward to witnessing the progress. Great Drone shots there too!
in all the ruins I've seen on this network, I think this is the most beautiful thing I've seen. I love it even now. to know you're going to restore it back, leaves me breathless in anticipation!
If anyone can restore this beautiful chateau it's you Dan.
Hi Dan! Congrats on your château purchase! Wondering if you have a “Townhall“ like we do in the USA where original house plans are submitted so that you can see what the basement rooms were used for as well as what the additional rooms on each floor were designated for? If this is something you’ve already done could you please share it on a blog? Really interested to know how these old château‘s functioned for staff etc. Thanks!
I was wondering the same, given that it's a relatively recent build in chateaux terms. Materials and possibly techniques might be indicated, like the reinforced concrete floor under the parquet in the hallway.
Such famous owners, I 'll bet there's anecdotal stories or photos of many of the rooms to put together an ides of the layout. I think the basement room with the big metal tub could have been a laundry room.
Me too I’m so excited to find out more history about the château.
I also wonder if his purchase price was for property only or if they charged for the rubble too.
A million euros may be enough to design and build the roof and chimneys and to make the place structurally solid, if you can find people who can do it.Good luck young man!
Two things that are attractive in any woman or man is a vision of the future project they have a passion for and the work ethic to see it through. You dear man have these both. Your videos and editing skills are excellent. We look forward to watching your progress. Thank you for sharing your adventure. 🇺🇸🌹
Congratulations on reaching 100k subscribers … I think we’re all in for an exciting adventure with your new chateau and the energy and thoughtfulness you’ll bring to it. Can’t wait!
Just wow, beautiful. This is a huge renovation, so worth it 💚
I can't fathom how you will even start without some expert advice. I'm guessing that getting a solid roof on it would be first but I worry about the overall stability of what is left standing. I will enjoy watching the progress!
Dan it’s like opening a new book, what kind of story is going to be bound up in this poor building, what are we going to learn? One thing is clear, it’s going to be a lot of hard work and a lot of money. Can’t wait for next chapter
I love how the drone gives you the ability to see in those rooms. I Can't wait to see how it all turns out as you go and when complete.
Dan! You have some big balls to take this project on! It’s going to take a lot of blood, sweat and tears, let’s alone time and $$. But I’m sure, in your hands you will give it everything.
The façade looks amazing and such quality of workmanship! Almost like it’s just been done. So the bones are good I’d say. Just hope you got it for a steal and the taxes on the land alone annually don’t prevent you from being able to restore it to its former glory. 🙌
10:10 That smile and thumbs-up; adorable! ☺👍
The more I see the chateau the less shocking the work becomes! You’ll do this! Fabulous! Well done little drone! 😊🥰
Oh bloody hell Dan!!! This is so exciting!!! I love your chateau, that drone footage inside the bathroom is awesome. You are living my dream. Can't wait to see more next Sunday 😍
You go Dan you really are the man! Hope you get financial help to restore this chateau for you and your family.
Very cool, Dan. I would be overwhelmed by the whole thing! Nice to see your excitement and looking forward to the reno!!
The blue bathroom will be amazing to restore. The wooden detail above the bay is stunning. So glad you got it and can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Hey Dan, I have been glued to your channel and look forward to your updates on Sunday evenings! What an adventure this is going to be! We live here in Nova Scotia on the East Coast of Canada and in what w3 call an older home….about 120 years old! You are one brave man to take that Chateau on!
Loved the boys chatting in the background. Great drone footage exploring the upstairs room’s. Wondering what the fishery is too, all so exciting. Thanks Dan.
It blows my mind the inside is completely destroyed but the facade looks pretty much perfect. The underneath rooms were very interesting. I love seeing all the stone work.
Dan, you bought yourself a life long contract renovating this ruin. Have fun. We will cheer and support your journey ❤️ 💜 ♥️
I could watch this all day. I love it so much. The house is amazing. How much property came with your house? Sorry, Chateau. The kind of detail in the bricks and granite can’t be duplicated today. If it could it would be absolutely cost prohibitive. Those gates at the entrance! Talk about impressive. I just started watching this series. Your boys are adorable. Are they twins?
Another great video Dan . Would it be possible for you to grab yourself a drink and sit down and tell us a little history about the château? Who lived there, how old is it, what’s the story about someone setting it on fire? Were the people who lived there in need of money? When was the fire and how did you first hear about the château? Were you looking for a château to purchase or just see this one and fall in love with it? Just a few questions I can think of. Feel free to add any other pertinent information. This is of course if you have the time. I know you have a few things to do. I see you are accumulating a few new subscribers also. Hot doggie!! 😊❤️
This is the third vid l've watched bc the original Chateau found came up in my feed. Awesome! I've been to France from Australia but we never went "out bush" so this is amazing. I'm going to binge watch and catch up 😂 👍😊
It's a lot of work and I believe you'll do it Dan, I just hope I live long enough to see the completed reno. Cheers!
It's going to be fun watching you work on this. If I bought something like this I would build a normal sized house on the property and use every salvageable piece from the rubble, kind of make a mini chateau.
That's a good idea. Mind are fire damaged bricks still strong to use ??
@@juliatownsend2324 I don't know but they build fire places out of bricks so they must be fire proof.
What a beautiful building. You can see the craftsmanship among the burned debris. It sure was a jewel! Dan, I know you're not an idiot, but in all your & our excitement to make wonderful discoveries, I hope you don't take any chances with your safety and things that could fall down. How on earth will you get the trees out of the building? Will you one day share with us how to came to buy this chateau and your plans for the structure etc?
So cool!! Epic drone shots! Oh, if walls could talk!!!……
Love from Mary in Southern California 💗
Hola from Honduras! This project will give you content for many years! Love hearing Jack & Thomas talking to each other. When they're older they can help you with safer tasks like painting! 😊
I love that you are saving this Chateau! ❤️ You can see it’s potential even in it’s current state of ruins. I look forward to seeing more videos soon.🤗
Wow - every video gets more exciting. It’s so cool that you are going to bring this beautiful building back to it’s former glory.
Those two dear wee boys , somehow pay homage to the wee lives that played there once before, The sounds of their voices is making the place magical ,It reminds me of the children's story ,The Selfish Giant , and how his castle came alive once the children entered his orchard through a hole in the wall . My childhood fav, story , I'm 71 now , Bless you and yours , ani Angela nz
I have been thinking of the children as well having had to run to France to this Chateau so they were not killed in the war. I think their spirits will forever be attached. All their descendents I am sure are grateful for this Chateau.
It is a fun adventure to watch your videos; your children are beautiful just like little Daniels. Congratulations on everything you are doing and I also like the music. I look forward to continue watching future videos of your château.
Just looking at that black scorched ceiling tells us that it was a horrific fire. But seeing the blue paint and the frame for a huge mirror that is still beautiful, lets us see a little bit of what it looked like when it was whole. I can't get over how beautiful the outside is. It's an amazing looking place and I want to watch you from beginning to the end of it's rebirth. Thank you for showing us around before you start working on it.
In smaller chateaux the basement was intended for servants quarters. There was probably a range cooker which would have serviced the radiators and where all the food was prepared and stored.
I can't believe you bought that place. YOu will be working on it for the rest of your life, at least you won't ever be bored! Thank you for the video!
You should take some beautiful pictures of that parquet floor, the tree growing inside, etc to enlarge and frame so you can hang them in the chateau when it’s finished. ❤️🇨🇦
Where do you start, you sure aren’t afraid of hard work Dan! Good luck and looking forward to watch this project.
It’s beautiful Dan 😃 and I cannot wait to see what treasures we find 🥰
I love your new products. I wish I could help you! What fun , I’m 62 years young but I would be all over this. Can’t what to see you working on this .
What a gem of chateau
Dan keep up good work.
Get the ground growth out
Of your way. Cherry-picked
Is gonna be needed
This is all going to be very interesting Dan. Thanks for taking us with you. 🥰
Love some of your drone shots, and the music, too. Cute shot of your kids eating, too. I can't even imagine how much work it's going to take to make that house livable again. You have so much work ahead of you. My hat's off to you. I hope you keep the bathroom that same beautiful blue color that it is now.
I can't wait for it too, you're going to do GREAT things there
Very exciting seeing inside, its so well built and the exterior still in such good condition still.
Oh my god the hidden rooms! The colours still on the walls! It really gives a sense of what it was like originally and you can restore it all back again. So exciting x
This is just amazing Dan…I can hardly wait to see your progress, very exciting !!!!
So good to know what I will be doing on Sundays for the next several years!
Dan how magnificent this building is! You’re just the man to do it justice. An awful lot of work. I hope you have some help
Thanks for showing us around! I loved seeing your boys. What an amazing place to explore. I’m so excited for this important piece of history to be restored!
I wish we would get more than one video a week! This is such an exciting process!
I love your cheateau and your music
Soooo exciting, can't wait for next Sunday 🤩
Dan, your vision is incredible... looking so forward to seeing the magic going forward!
Just watched the other two videos on this chateau... it’s gonna be an amazing project
There is another video of Dan and his wife when they first visit the chateau.
Great work showing these parts of your project; your head must be buzzing with ideas and planning. Amazing that you've taken this project on.
Looking forward to your renovation. So cool Dan!
So excited for this adventure! Thanks for taking us along.
That is incredible!! If that basement became a home, I would definitely live there!!!
Love those doors! Wow!
The bathrooms would have been Incredible! Loved seeing up there!
God I love France!
Dan you are a gifted and natural filmmaker. Looking forward to joining you on this journey as you bring life back into this beautiful château.
So excited for your adventure! You are so talented that I can already picture it when it’s done.😊
Do you know photogrammetry? It would be a great value for your renovation and restoration work! Nowadays people use such detailed 3D models, to plan restorations off historic buildings. The degree of detail is awesome! Such a 3D model wouldn't only help you on your path, it would be great value for future generations as well. They would see all those differences, that have been done, since the time you started your work. It would be such a good way to document. Probably you can do one nowadays and one in future, in a couple of years. Then you could compare those digital twins. That would be amazing 😍
Look forward to see your progress every week x
LOVING THIS ❤️
ITS AN ADVENTURE!!!
Hey Dan... been watching since the beginning at Lalande...so excited about your renovation of your new Chateau...Big Congrats 👏🎉. Just wanted to say love your videos and the music and vibe. Well done ✅👍❤️
Fascinating chateau! Looking forward to watching this renovation.
You hit the nail on the head, "This place will give a lot". So much to look forward to. I'm excited... ❤️🇦🇺
