  • Scrapping of Historic Lady-class Ferry “Lady Herron”. Today I am here at Newcastle with ‪@BensSydneyFerryVideos‬ to inspect the scrapping works being carried out on the MV Lady Herron. This is my second and final video on this vessel, as it has mostly been scrapped as of writing this. This video shows some footage of the vessel being destroyed with an excavator, along with various camera angles and kayaking footage showing everything from shots across the river to being close enough to the Lady Herron to touch her. This has been a massive loss to Sydney’s ferry history, and this video almost fully shows the extent of the destruction that has been inflicted on this beautiful vessel.
Filmed on the 3rd and 4th of May 2024

I think it's worth one more video - perhaps next week to see if the hull is still floating or if it's been dragged up onto land to be scrapped. I wonder too where the wheelhouses will go? As I said last week, it looked like they were being cut off for salvage, and here they are!

It does look like the wheelhouses are being saved, it’d be great for at least that to be preserved. I might make another video, but it’s really a matter of whether I can be bothered to go to Newcastle again or not. Could I use some of your Lady Herron footage (with credit of course) to make a tribute to the Lady Herron in a future video?

@@coolsoap8 You are welcome to use clips of mine. 🙂 The Ladies Herron and Street were never favourite ferries of mine, and having grown up more so with Manly Ferries, the Ladies Wakehurst and Northcott - as Manly "spares" were more of interest. add to that that by the time I was getting into video making on a more serious level, I was no longer living in NSW. I've also come across 10 photos of her dating back to 2009, which I can give you access to through Google Drive and a seperate link that can be deleted later.

I seriously don’t know why they are doing this crap first it was the steam ferry’s then a lot of the kind of older ones now it’s the lady’s and the rivers and next is the fresh waters Like they could have at least made it to be a transport heritage ferry for events This is idiotic they are making our country look way badder because the lady’s and the freshwaters are Sydney’s most iconic ferry classes RIP TO THE LADY CLASS FERRYS
