26th of June 2024 update.
After not even 3 weeks since withdrawal, Evonne Goolagong has been stripped of parts and towed to Yamba for scrapping with Betty Cuthbert. They both left Sydney for the last time yesterday under tow from tugboat “Pegasus” at around 2pm. These two beautiful Rivercats will likely be scrap metal within a few weeks.
This is an excellent presentation of the sad demise of the "Evonne Goolagong" a rivercat class ferry. I have always wanted them to be known as "Olympic Class" ferries operated by a rivercat. The manoeuvrability of these ferries is clearly shown by their "turning" ability at the Parramatta wharf, which was not seen in this video. I think her final farewell was made special by the backdrop of the vivid lights, which gave it a feel of "celebrating" her nautical life. Excellent capture of the 3 cats, which could well be the only one of its kind. Excellent presentation, well done 👏 👍
