No way
don't know how u get those views! they are amazing !!!
In the mid 60s I sold lollies etc on the Manly ferries and I saw swell like that many times. The South Steyne would sometimes go outside the heads on special jaunt up to the Hawkesbury entrance and back. They served alcohol on that trip and it was hilarious seeing people go green around the gills as the swell mixed with the alcohol. I have kayaked from North Bondi to Watsons Bay and back many times. I have done it in 3 m rolling swell which is fine when you are going into it but hard work when it is behind you for 10 kms.
What a rare bus. We used the have quite a few of the these in Melbourne but they have all been withdrawn from service.
They would’ve been ex-National Bus Company operated by Transdev and Ventura, is that correct? I don’t know too much about Melbourne’s buses but I think I got that bit of information right. These old Mercs would go on forever if they were given the chance, they very rarely let anyone down. Thanks for watching! :)
@ yes you are correct 👍

nearly 20yrs ago i nearly went overboard on the ferry in heavy swells..and it was a sunny day. That front area was open we were standing out front....we started hitting the waves, and getting wet we decided to go inside. Coming down those stairs last, i was on the second step from the top when the ferry suddenly dipped heavily to the portside... i went 3/4 overboard ...the only thing that saved me was the ferry swung back hard starboard and literally threw into the wall lol.
I just saw this video now and it reminds me that in my town their is a 0405nh transferred from berrima to my town and im planning to make a trip report on it today
I used to love days like this on the Barragoola growing up when i lived at Manly Vale, see some cool stuff from Haig Glichrist (don't know if this is you or not?).
Should include Serena yelling “come on” in the US Open 2011 final only to have a hindrance called because the ball was still in play
Back in the early sixties we were still at school and used to pick BIG days to ride the ferries to Manly. Im sure we had bigger seas than this. I believe? we were on the South Stene and water was washing into the seating areas. The old boat was really rocking and rolling. The best bit was when they got midway, they would sail out into the heads and bow into the swell, then go beam on and steam into Manly with a following seas. When we were beam on it was pants pissing. Talk about rock and roll. I recall we were on a smaller ferry with the toilet right on the bow. They let us idiots out on the bow in bigger seas than this, we were taking green water. Was four five or six of us. We would see a big green nosedive coming so as many as we could would jam in the toilet and the others ran down the sides. The toilet handle and keyhole was about 1 m high and the water would gush in under the door and ahuge solid stream would just pour through the keyhole. Rinse and repeat. Greatest fun imaginable for the cost of a kids ferry fare. I think they allowed the ferries to run in bigger seas, as they were really rough and wet, even inside and you got thrown about. Some people got seasick.
Nice
Video from 8 days ago managed to become most viewed great job
28/1/25 update. The Rivercat vessel MV Nicole Livingstone has been completely scrapped, as far as I’m aware, nothing remains of this unique Rivercat.
2025 update. Many months ago, Evonne Goolagong and Betty Cuthbert were reduced to atoms, however some parts of the Goolagong and Cuthbert have been preserved privately, so they’re not entirely lost to history 🥲
these kids should go inside for their safety
Thanks for your input old man... you seem like fun at parties.
@peterbrown1968 what’s your problem? We’re just having fun, if it was dangerous then we wouldn’t be allowed outside would we? Watch how you talk to innocent kids on the internet buddy, calling kids idiots isn’t a good look 😐

I'm (pleasantly) surprised that the ferry operator allows passengers outside in such conditions. It looks like fun.

Hi is Betty to be scrapped and what and where are the old green wooden Ferries from the 1980s-thanks
Betty was scrapped a while ago sadly, and the best surviving example of a wooden harbour ferry that served UTA is the Lady Denman. Some went on to do other things, such as cruise boats and floating restaurants, but Lady Denman is the only surviving wooden double-ender I’m pretty sure.
do love those buses! i have gone on mo 8272 and she is a great bus!
You shoudda been on the Crown Princess the other night crossing the Tasman. That was an insane night! No stableisers and the ship was tilted 45 degrees for around 45 seconds each way
We’ve sat outside as well and had the best ride of our lives ❤
MAD INVITE
NSW Govt. needs to have any new Manly ferries built in Australia. The rubbish that ave come from China wouldn't set out in this weather and would probably breakdown on the journey.
you copied david kario 🤬🤬🤬 (less passengers kids to come) ruclips.net/video/KerRid702Yg/видео.htmlsi=ghrY5kz3uhQDeppG
No he didn't
9540 also has a very loud Ecomat. The first gear is loud enough to peak my microphone 🙂
Back 70 years or so, my grandmother made a point of trying to catch the last ferry before the weather forced cancellation.
yes, agree. I cant recall if they ever cancelled, they do now. The Steynes could handle anything as they were double ended and sailed out from Scotland.
I'm 72 and can assure you they were very very wild rides
Anyone who thinks these are 'waves', clearly needs to get their eyes checked
BUCKET Seats LIKE the CITARO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great vid my man keep on going like usual ❤❤❤😊
Thank you
Brought back memories, that used to be my daily commute to work late 90’s. Had some fun crossing then too. 👍
The original manly ferries come from England under there own power, Great old boats
Scotland.
Scotland.
From Scotland under steam
At the crossing of the heads there is a big basin of water where the harbour water meets the ocean. That’s why it is usually rough there in big swells. The harbour is flowing out and the ocean is flowing in. The basement dwellers obviously don’t know that.
Hmm. A couple of big ones came along! I would have loved it. Great video!
I was on this Ferry the other day too . I wore sea bands on my wrist to help with seasickness ..it was rough🤮
Thankyou for the video, I enjoyed it immensely and just wish I had been there. I went on a similar ferry ride years ago, it was exhilarating! I love Sydney, and the ferries, they’re awesome!
Do bus 7838 and 8225 next
Which one is louder
I once sat on the outside deck at the side, feeling sorry for myself realising I had the beginnings of the flu. Whilst having a bit of a daydream the ferry went down into a trough and all of the water compressed through one of those gaps that lets water run off the deck and completely soaked me. I mean completely soaked me. 😅
Great video, as a Western Suburbs boy I still have very fond memories of a similar crossing in the late 80's, just before they shut ferries off for the day and replaced them with Buses. I love the ferry trip from Manly to CQ and when it's rough like that you just have to be there to experience it! Nice video, brings back memories. The sight that most sticks in my mind was as the two ferries crossed path near the turning point in heavy weather, seeing the other ferry nearby helped give context to the swell height. I always remember at one stage the other ferry was at the top of the swell and next the swell was almost higher than it, when it was in the trough. They're amazing ferries.
What a shame that they're getting rid of the Forest livery. I've always been extremely proud of the Drivers from Forest, always pleasant and will do anything to help. They will even wait for a passenger that's a bit late, running towards them. Best customer service on buses that I've ever been on. CDC don't seem to care.
I've never had an angry Forest driver, they always seem to be in a good mood! I reckon that the further away from the city you are, the happier the bus drivers are.
