  • You can purchase the MXR M239 Mini Iso-Brick here: www.sweetwater...
    The Mini Iso-Brick delivers quiet, noise-free power to your stompboxes without eating up a ton of pedalboard real estate. Five fully isolated outputs, including a 9/18-volt switchable output, accommodate a wide range of pedals while eliminating annoying ground loop noise. Expansion is as easy as inserting a splitter cable. Troubleshooting is also a breeze, thanks to super-bright LED status indicators. Beyond that, this road-ready power supply is built like a tank.

    I’m late to this party, but I’ve had my mini iso a few years and I love it. Obviously i worth within the confines of my equipment but it’s been pretty great. I really stopped worrying about my gear.

    I just did the math and the small board draws more current (750mA) than the big one (704mA). There's an important detail I could only find in Sweetwater's product specs, and this brick has a max output current of 800mA total. It means you could only use all those 800mA of the 5th output, if there's nothing connected to the other 4 outputs. In short, it can't output 2000mA total (300mAx4 + 800mA). You have to distribute the 800mA among its 5 outputs, without exceeding the max current of each (labeled). I still think this little unit is amazing! I'd only wish they were more clear about this to avoid confusion with the labeled power on the outputs.

      I want to add to this by including what is on the manual for this device: "All outputs may be used simultaneously for a total power output of 17.1 watts." if 17.1W/9V (assuming no 18V), then max output is 1900mA? source: www.jimdunlop.com/content/manuals/M239.pdf

      Not sure what you're talking about, but the max combined output of the iso-brick is 17.1 Watts. At 9V DC it can power up to a combined 1900mA total, respecting the maximum mA output of each socket. I'm using it to drive the Plethora x5 (600 mA) plus four other pedals and I'm well below 1900mA total. Are you sure you aren't trying to use something at 18V DC that draws 800mA? It would draw by itself 14.4 Watts leaving little to use in the other sockets (maybe one 200mA pedal)

    Cool...in the market for a power supply, building a board now.. I like MXR products.
    What cable was he using to split the current off the 800 mA to drive multiple pedals?

    • @mattmcdevitt2331
      @mattmcdevitt2331 5 лет назад +1

      It comes with one "Y" cable to power 2 pedals. MXR will be making the "Y" cable and a 4 pedal daisy chain available separately.

    Has anyone had issues with these yet? Just got mine today and it seems it already shorts out. You have to have the power I’m positioned a certain way to get power. And the power cord slides out very easily so I feel like I can’t move my board around at all.

    so i just got the big iso brick. What is all this 9v 100mA 300mA 450mA business? i got six 9v Boss pedals and a 12v Vocal pedal. the pedal instruction manuals aren't clear. your input would be appreciated cuz i just wanna stick them in already

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 лет назад +2

      Hello! My general rule of thumb with pedal power is to ALWAYS match voltage, and then make sure that the mA are equal to or greater than what the pedal requires. The pedals will only draw as much current (milliamps) as they need, so a 9V pedal requiring 20mA is fine to plug into a 9V, 500mA power supply, because it will only draw the 20mA from there. If you plug a 9V pedal into an 18V power supply you will potentially burn up the pedal. Or in your case, a 12V pedal into 9V supply would underpower it, and it would not work properly, and potentially damage the pedal.
      Thanks for the interest!

    can this power a line 6 hx stomp?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for your question Ethan, hope you and yours are safe and well.
      The HX technically requires 1.5mA. I powered mine with a Strymon PSU combining two ports via a current doubling Y cable. There are reports of the 800mA port on the MXR powering the HX, however I can't confirm that from experience. Total capacity on the MXR is 1200mA, so there's not much left for other pedals if it successfully powers the HX. MXR makes great products, so if it's a matter of size or price, then it's worth the experiment. Otherwise, Strymon and TrueTone work without issue.

    does it works with a BOSS rc-30 / Boss Overdrive / MXR Reverb?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  4 года назад +1

      Hi, Brishonte. Thanks for your question! Yes, the M239 has enough capacity for all the pedals you listed. The Boss RC-30 needs 200mA, the other two pedals are below that. Since each tap on the PSU is 300mA, you're all set. Please contact me direct for any other gear questions or needs.

    Wow can it powered HX STOMP?

    • @mattmcdevitt2331
      @mattmcdevitt2331 5 лет назад

      It's powerful, but not that powerful. The HX Stomp is 9 volts at 3 amps. Each output on the Mini is 300mA and one 800mA.

    • @MindfulProgramming
      @MindfulProgramming 5 лет назад

      after seeing the CIOKS video about powering the HX Stomp, all you would need is a parallel voltage doubler(adapter), and 2.1mm to 2.5mm adapter. *WARNING: this is different from a normal daisy chain cable.* in that video, HX Stomp's current draw averages just below 1000mA. the parallel voltage doubler taps from two power outputs. with the MXR Mini Iso Brick, you would need to use (1)800mA + (1)300mA outlets.
