Honestly it's very impressive how far Sweden have independent Capabilities to fill their own equipment and have Capabilities to supply their neighbor if needed.
No nock to Sweden, great country and military none the less, but its not independently. Given their agreement with the US we are oblidged to give them our higher end gear and supplies. Statistically most of the gear they are currently listed as using is from Lockheed and Northrop with headwear from Rytheon, all of which sell 1000% solely to the US military. The defense cooperation agreement allows them to use of this gear and equipment. 13.6b in gear and 25b in weaponry was the deal which weve given already 80$% of that deal hence their rapid improvements in military hardware within the last decade with no increase in GOP to show how they can afford over 10b in gear out of the blue. Again, nothing against the great swed's but their rapid military growth is 100% the result in their agreement with the US to share US military hardware for Swedens political favor in the future, smart trade tbh.

Archer can fire three projectiles and be about to switch positions before the first projectile hits the target. You should definitely look at these weapon platforms
It can also make it so all three projectiles hit at the exact same time. This both fucks up for the enemy trying to track where it came from and when they find you, you're not there anymore.

Sweden used to have one of the best and biggest Airforces in the World during the Cold War with legendary Fighter jets like the Lightning(Viggen) and the Dragon(Draken)regarded as the best in the World at the time,Jas 39 Gripen is in that innovative tradition. It's constructed with Russia in mind in a Guerilla Warfare situation.Bofors, SAAB and BAE systems are building our Artillery, Tanks and Armoured Veichles, Kockums our Submarines and Corvettes. When I did my military service, everybody needed to do it. We could put a 900K military force. It was clear who the enemy was. I can still until this day identify a Soviet T72 and T80 tank. When the Soviet collapsed, we change from a defending from Soviet attacks to having a smaller force that can help UN in for example Afghanistan and Mali. Now we are rearming. I would say the threat is bigger now than then. I recommend the videos called "if war came" it is in Swedish but have subtitles. ruclips.net/video/4mXC7UMmwrw/видео.html This is about Swedish readiness during the cold war. I would also recommend "If war comes" ruclips.net/video/Y80utl-RkHg/видео.html This is looking in to the future. Both are of documentary style and released by Swedish joint forces. No worries, it is not of the propaganda join the armed forces style. It is actually very good and professionally produced.
as of 2024 we have 8000 conscript every year. 26/4 an important date when the defense committee with its final report, hopefully they will come to the conclusion that we will be much bigger in the future!
If you look into the Archer system you will find that it can fire multiple rounds that impacts at the same time. It shoots like 3 rounds that end up at the same destination within half a second of each other. And that sterling sub the US rented of the Swedes after them not being able to detect it during an exercise :-)
We are a small country population wise so we decided to work towards hi-tech equipment instead of manpower. So our army is fairly small but they are well trained and equipped with state of the art equipment. The Gripen is a good example, as well as the Archer
The RUclips channel FTD Facts has a decent video on the Swedish Special Forces (Särskilda Operationsgruppen). The amphibious troops that this video mentions are what some countries call Marines and other call Naval Infantry.
But it’s also the combination with geography and Finland that does it, the two brotherly countries having had long established co-operations. Finland with a really strong army and artillery force, Sweden with it’s navy, air force and highly qualified quick response capabilities. Backed by Nato and particularly Norway in the arctics, they together really will lock down Russian aggression in the north.
Well, the highly trained and successful Western (NATO) units are prominently featured everywhere. Especially where there is no real resistance. They were prominently featured in Afghanistan, at the Kabul airport, weren't they? They were masterful refugees. The Finnish and Swedish joining was a great idea, it contributes about 80,000 people to the strength of NATO. Yes, and with a border of 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) to defend. I would like to point out that, meanwhile, the Russian army has been strengthened by half a million people. Are we more secure? After all, these countries owed their development to neutrality, for a few years, and the end of prosperity, because they entered the Western alliance. This was the worst response to the possible Russian threat, because they became openly anti-Russian. Just as the Swiss banking system will also feel that it has given up its neutrality, because in the future, many people will no longer consider Swiss banks completely safe. , while other areas, such as the Cayman Islands, will become more popular. In vain, you have to pay for stupidity.
Do a video on the archer, its an amazing piece of artillery. Sweden has quite the tradition when it comes to artillery in general. (Goes back to making old-school cannons for wooden ships thanks to good swedish iron) Also the Subs are really cool, tend to mess with the US when they have trained together.
The Amfiber branch is a bit more for Navy SEALs but they specialize in the archipelago. They are called Jägar (=Hunter) units. Each branch has its Jägare units associations. But that's only a small part. Most of those mentioned belong to the boats. In the UK you have the SAS which is similar and they train together sometimes. But Amfiber the force is more concentrated in the world's largest archipelago with over 270,000 islands. Many people is not realize that Sweden forms half of Russia's front line to the west. It is as far from the southern point of Sweden to the northern point as it is from the southern point to northern Greece
To put to the Swedish Marines into perspective for you its like the SBS, high physical profile on soldiers. They are called Kystjägare, Coastal hunters
Thanks for another good video! Yeah, do look in to the archer self propelled artillary, also the Gotland class Submarine, the Stridsfordon 90 (CV90 in English) fighting armoured personell carrier, the Stridsvagn 122 (probably the the world's best main battle tank), and finally the Visby class Corvette! They are all pretty darn good! ;-)
I can tell you about the "special forces", we have about the same as you and the US so, most hardcore badass: "röjdykare" thats munitions diver, you have kustjägare, thats a a marine. You will have flygbasjägare, those will proctect air force bases. Infantry wyse of course we have Fallskärmsjägare "Paratropers", Fjälljägare, arctic kind. All those you need to apply for and test for. Then you have the common Jägare. All these are "special forces" and I can tell you, Kustjägare is tough as nails and to be compared to SAS or Navy Seals.
It seems to me you could do with a few catch phrases or key quotes such as the fat electrician (such quotes as “quack bang out”) you seem to say “…without me waffling over it…” a lot (I may be saying this wrong as I’m American) so maybe a line of “waffling over it” merch would do well. I myself would buy such merch
Love ur take of all of this. And as u say. I like to know more. If we would've had more on all the points in the video we would've been a super power. Except nukes ofc... alot of capable forces in sweden and how they act.
Sweden could still have remained neutral. In fact, once Finland was in NATO, Sweden could have chosen to sit out and probably still benefit the full support of NATO. Since Sweden falling to a hostile force would be very detrimental to NATO security. But, we also promised Finland to join with them, so I guess we should. =)
There are a couple of videos on youtube about särskilda operationsgruppen(the swedish special forces), but most of the information regarding training, missions they've done and so on are classified. It is actually pretty fun to go to wikipedia and read: "Size: Classified Commander: Classified Acting Commander: Classified Support Commander(dunno if that is correct translation into english. The paper guy officer): Classified. " Everything is classified. :P As it should be. According to wikipedia they have done missions in Kosovo, Chad, Afghanistan, Syria, against islamic groups in Mali and Niger; and the kabul 2021 evacuation.
The Archer is basically the M777 but self propelled and I’d say it’s the best out. I wish the U.S. would buy some of them to go along with the M119 Paladin. Sweden also has developed a lot of weapons that is used across western countries. Carl Gustav, AT-4, NLAW, Bofors 40mm auto cannon, Archer and I’m sure there is more or was more.
I have worked at Bofors, what I see then, what they do now might be super amazing. We Swedes have a tendency to go over the top. Tech, yes, will, ohh yes, capability, are you joking..
UK has recently bought the Archer from Sweden. I believe 24 of them. 8 have also been donated to Ukraine. You can find a lot of info about the Archer in RUclips.
When you said quality of soliders, it reminds me of Poland, Battle of Wizna; 40 to 1 which I think summarize it well. > According to Polish historian Leszek Moczulski, between 350 and 720 Poles defended a fortified line for three days against more than 40,000 Germans.[1] Although defeat was inevitable, the Polish defence stalled the attacking forces for three days and postponed the encirclement of Independent Operational Group Narew fighting nearby.
Pretty sure we have about 500 CV90's in Sweden, might be wrong though. Anyway, yes, Sweden technically uses the Leopard 2 tank, but we have our own purpose-built variant of it called the "Stridsvagn 122", literally translates to "Combat Wagon 122". It is a modified Leopard 2 A5 with additional armor and better internal systems than the default German tanks. The Strv 122-tanks were also built in Sweden. So, I would call our tank more of a cousin to the default Leopard 2. We donated 10 of them to Ukraine, and they praise it as the best version of the Leopard 2 they have gotten, which just warms the heart :)
You won't find much about our special units, but google SOG and perhaps you can find some information. SOG = Special operation Groupe like Navy Seal and SAS
Sweden dont have big army but they have a law thats called totalförsvarsplikten and states that evry person in sweden between 16 and 70 need to help the military

You need to look into: Archer S-tank SAAB J35 Draken(The Dragon, or the Kite I guess but I think they were thinking Dragon ;P) The Visby Corette
We could not have stayed neutral. What people tend to look past is that about 3-4 months before Russia full on invaded Ukraine, they tried to take one of our islands. But stopped because of how many troops we stationed at that island and at the mainland + a NATO ship between Denmark and Sweden showed its presence. We are next in line.
I dunno much about these things but I remember finland thinking about gripens or f-35s. Gripen seemed to be the better option considering our dictrine is mostly hardly taxing guerilla warfare type of defense. And gripens dont need big airbases, they can land get airborne from roads, even gravel roads are good enough. So imagine these planes sitting in forest roads waiting for their job and then returning back to the forests. But i guess all the tech and stealth stuff was more important + intergration with nato so f35 it is
Yes, NATO has expanded and strengthened in numbers when Finland & Sweden have joined the pact. At the same time, NATO countries have limited resources in terms of both military equipment and their economic muscles. In that perspective, support for Ukraine has unfortunately weakened NATO & exposed a fragile side that did not exist before the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Archer is well worth checking out. As is the "Special Operations Group" if I understand correctly is referring to the Jaegers, or the 'Jägarbataljon' in Swedish. I would suggest this video for the Jaegers: ruclips.net/video/A8ximzNYg8k/видео.html

Sure Sweden has marines. So does Finland. It's been pointed out as a specific asset they bring. And the Swedish and Finnish marines train jointly already. Which is helped by the Finnish marines, "Nylands Brigad", is made up of people from the Swedish speaking minority in Finland. Sweden currently has two regiments of marines, "Amphib" 1 and 2, with Amphib 2 a fairly recent addition and being built up as we speak. So Sweden and Finland have about 1500 marines each, for a combined force of some 3000. That might not sound like a lot, but it's to be compared to the British Royal Marines, which currently has some 5500+ men. The French and Italians have about 3000+ marines each. The Germans have 1500 in the Seebatallion (only since 2014, and they seem mostly defensive, not tasked with taking and holding beaches). So by comparison NATO just added the equivalent of one of the major European nations in marines capability in the Baltic.
The defense cooperation agreement Sweden made with the US give it a range of high end gear other nations couldnt get from the US. With that contract comes a nice trade with out military contracted companies like Lockheed and Northrop designed gear and weaponry. Its 1 of only 2 countries with that contract with the US. Anytime the US develops anything you can be sure Sweden will have free range with it so essentially they have the top 90% of gear the US has (outside of a select few top secret weapons like the laser, satellite destroyer, etc). So by that degree Sweden's tech is on par with the US outside of those select few things.
ARCHER is also a British system sold to Sweden and Norway so its not really their system to brag about either unfortunately, that pride goes to the British engineers as its 90% off the BAE-AB 145 system. I love Sweden but 90% of their equipment is not their equipment lol. They rely HEAVILY on the US and British for their equipment. Great military, but given without assistance from other countries they wouldnt stand a chance on the world stage, id say they still have some ways to go to be a feared powerhouse. If someone else can turn the lights off, you dont own the house.

The Swedish SOG (Special Operation Group) is highly capable and hyper secret. They have proven themselves very skilled and beaten both US Seal team 6 and British SAS on several exercises. They are considered to be one of the best trained on the world but at the same time, there operations are always covert and since Sweden have a 70 year secrecy act, it's very hard to come by information. Honestly it's very impressive how far Sweden have independent Capabilities to fill their own equipment and have Capabilities to supply their neighbor if needed.
In a all out war with the Russians they will lose the production game very quickly and that's something we have to acknowledge.

If you are interested in the Swedish army, do check out - and react to - the 'Jägarsoldat' series. A very well made production from the Armed Forces, following some conscripts from day 1 to the last day. Highly recommended!
If you you go for that, bear in mind that the first 6 episodes lack English subtitles, but I know that there are people out there that can translate if you reach out.
Nice reaction!
I would love to see you react to a video about our Archer system.

Sweden is self sustaining when it comes to our Armed forces since we were Neutral for 200 years. We're rapidly building up our Cold War capabilty and will increase our Army substantially over the next few years.
I recommend the videos called "if war came" it is in Swedish but have subtitles. ruclips.net/video/4mXC7UMmwrw/видео.html
This is about Swedish readiness during the cold war.
You should check out the Swedish Combat Boat 90. It sounds like it would be your area of expertise, its main job is to move troops to and from shore.
as of 2024 we have 8000 conscript every year.
Also Gotland locking down the Baltic region and making it easier to reinforce the Baltic states.
Those numbers are not accurate. It’s closer to 100.000 if you count the home guard and the numbers are increasing.
The Archer is damn cool, I think you'd have fun looking at it
Well, the highly trained and successful Western (NATO) units are prominently featured everywhere.
The Archer is a sniper haubitz on wheels.
To put to the Swedish Marines into perspective for you its like the SBS, high physical profile on soldiers. They are called Kystjägare, Coastal hunters
the amphibious corp is the swedish marines, coastal rangers are older and nowdays only a small selective role

It is actually pretty fun to go to wikipedia and read:
"Size: Classified
Commander: Classified
Acting Commander: Classified
Support Commander(dunno if that is correct translation into english.
Archer is one the best Howitzer ever made.
Look it up if you got the time.
UK has recently bought the Archer from Sweden. I believe 24 of them.
8 have also been donated to Ukraine.
You can find a lot of info about the Archer in RUclips.
The Archer can fire 5 shots before the first lands. All hitting the target just a few seconds apart. First shot can stay in air for almost a minute.
The Swedish word for special force marine soldiers is "Attackdykare".
When it comes to numbers of soldiers vs quality of soldiers. Just remember the battle at Thermapolye in Ancient Greece 480 bc
The Gotland Class submarine. The submarine type that in a 2005 war game against USA "sunk" the USS Ronald Reagan and snuck away.
The Archer is badass...best out there right now in my opinion.
Suprised that you didn't know of the Archer. Probably the best SP Howitzer in the world and it is made by us Swedes.
You won't find much about our special units, but google SOG and perhaps you can find some information.

The reason they didn’t talk about spec ops group is there’s very little known about it
The UK have 12 Archers now .
Don’t underestimate swedens military power. We are a small country but we have a very advanced military, leading tech in the military industry.
But i guess all the tech and stealth stuff was more important + intergration with nato so f35 it is
Check out the submarine and jas 39 gripen E.
They are the most impressive ones i guess 🤔

Yes, NATO has expanded and strengthened in numbers when Finland & Sweden have joined the pact. At the same time, NATO countries have limited resources in terms of both military equipment and their economic muscles. In that perspective, support for Ukraine has unfortunately weakened NATO & exposed a fragile side that did not exist before the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Archer is well worth checking out. As is the "Special Operations Group" if I understand correctly is referring to the Jaegers, or the 'Jägarbataljon' in Swedish.

Yes we have marines, sweden have the most islands in the world over 250.000
The Archer isn´t artillery. It´s a sniper rifle!
Yes we have Marines
@@devinjenkins4752 Archer is a Swedsh developed & built system, & has now also been bought by the UK. The fact that BAE bought the company that created Archer, doesn't change the fact that it is Swedish.. Similar with many other systems.. Sweden & it's defence industry has a long history of creating & building great military gear, which is why so much Swedish gear is used by many NATO countries, including the US, which like the UK has a history of teaming up with Swedish defenseindusty & expertise when creating new weapon systems, see for exemple Excalibur (Bofors) & NLAW..🧐
@@leifiseland1218 Its literally built off the Abbot 2.3 AS90 systems made by the UK lol. Adding 10% to a system means nothing as a whole. Not only is it built off UK systems its owned by UK so its 10000% a UK system.
Also theres nothing currently used by top 4 countries made by Swedens military outside of minor equipment hense the $7m sales to UK and $23m to US. We spend 34m on scopes, you really think were buying something special with 23m? 7m? They arent selling top of the line equipment. WW1/2 sure their equipment was top notch best in the world. Today they are literally just a subsidiary to US tech and one of the few countries allowed use and free range to use that tech to make whatever they want. Those free range items are the ones you speak of and arent high end. Statistically Sweden gets 13b in gear and equipment while only producing 230m in tech worth selling. Their spec ops literally uses Rytheon gear lmao, why would they use gear produced by a US company if theirs is so good? You are overexaggerating their military might. But yes their Archer system is a UK system none the less. Add a body kit to a car it doesnt change the maker of the car.

Since I work with collecting information for our Spy Museum project, I've talked to several interesting people however, some of them have spoken with promise of Non Disclosure and just for me to mention what they said, would render me (and them) a very lengthy prison sentence (lifetime)..
Sweden take "Top Secret" very serious (except when politicians slip their tongue.
14.850 Active, 11.450 Reservists is not the hole story.
We have a conscript army, so a majority of people over 20 have basic military training.
So if we are attacked by an invasion force, we can mobilize a lot more, like millions.
Sweden had plans to join nato for years. But since putin got more aggressive towards sweden and Finland and then where putin invades Ukraine made sweden finally apply for nato membership which they finally got.
We do not talk about the special operations group, because... they're special.
