      So glad to have Sweden join NATO!!! Their contribution to air & naval security of the region comes as greatly welcome and important! The awesome Grippen!!! Might have known that Saab would be capable of super engineering and technology! Learned to drive at 13 yr old in a 60's model Saab three speed on the column. Great car in the snow of Maine as it was probably the first front-wheel drive auto in the US!? Engine weight over the drive tires, SMART! And speaking of smart, indeed a country of only 10M has accomplished much, given the opportunity to have done so! World Class!!!

      It is not really going that well though. We have nuclear power that doesn't add to the CO2. Instead of maintaining that power, our idiot green party made sure to close down 6 out of 12 reactors before the new green solution is in place and is tested. This means that when the wind isn't blowing, our windmills stands still and then we have to turn on an Oil-based Powerplant that burns over 100,000 liters of Oil / hour to stabilize the electricity in southern Sweden.
      That Oil-powered powerplant is spewing out CO2 and the electrical bill goes up skyhigh because of this. So, as an example... one day when the wind was not blowing, the electricity price went up 13.000% Yes.... That is 13 THOUSAND %.
      If the green party hadn't forced to shut down those 6 nuclear reactors, we would not have had to burn Oil (add to the CO2), and the electrical prize would have been stable, even with the war in Ukraine.
      So no, things aren't looking that good.

      To uphold the previous Swedish military doctrine of non alignment, a lot of effort was put in having a strong defense. For a long time Sweden had the worlds fourth largest and powerful air force. Sweden also had a very serious and far gone nuclear weapons program during the 60s and early 70s. The official story is that the program was ended because of shifting public opinion on nuclear weapons, partially because of events like the Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. To this date a lot of information concerning the program remains classified. It therefore doesn't' seem entirely unthinkable that Sweden could have been a nuclear power at some point. Sweden is a dying country that strangely enough is doing quite well right now financially. but that won't last for long, if the country implodes from within. We have a huge immigrant crisis which has created a huge crime and violence crisis and we have an electrical crisis as well. But of course this lying huckster of finance minister won't mention that. Oh and what's more, part from the air force, and our five subs, Sweden barely has any armed forces. We used to have a great military force. We used to be one of the most militarised countries of the world. Then our naive, incompetent and morally bankrupt politicians decided that we didn't need to have any armed forces essentially. Yes! You heard me correctly, loud and clear. Our parlamentet decided, that over time, we should completely dismantle our entire armed forces. We now have ca 0-15 % left of what we had back in 1989 when our defence was the strongest. I say 0-15 % because some elements of the armed forces have been completely dismantled and thus seized to exist altogether. And this whole NATO debacle, isn't just something "you can have a dialogue about.." as this dishonest liar of a politician, put it. There's a growing scandal about to burst here in IKEA country.. and it just might cost this man, the prime minister and the social democrats party their jobs and governance over Sweden even before the elections in September this year.

Obviously the US isn't going to buy them, but I wouldn't fault any other nation for buying them if they don't want to spend F-35 money, and I'm curious to see what the next generation Saab fighter ends up looking like, especially if Sweden joining leads to more tech sharing. Don't think I'm not also joyous for Finland homing too, but air power is special interest of mine so Sweden's Air Force is naturally going to draw my focus. The Finnish Army is just as intriguing for folks who nerd out about ground pounders, especially given the bruisings they've historically visited upon Russia/USSR.

    No doubt about it, the Gripen is one of the finest fighter jets in the world today. Not the stealthiest nor the fastest, but cheap to buy, cheap to fly, and simple to maintain for an aircraft that is deadly in a fight.

    • @Rikard_Nilsson
      @Rikard_Nilsson Год назад +63

      The Gripen E/F is very stealthy, not in the same fashion as the F-35 which uses airframe design shape and special radar-absorbing paint to remain stealthy, but by scrambling and jamming sensors, essentially a flying hacker. It's able to use targeting of one plane to target a plane that's out of reach normally too so one plane could fly close without giving itself away while feeding targeting data to it's buddies further back to act on. What it lacks is the size to perform larger scale bombings due to it being small and single-engine, but the extremely short turnaround time is supposed to make up for that, it already has a longer range than the F-35 (and is able to use drop tanks because that doesn't adversely affect it's type of stealth unlike the F-35 where if you fit equipment on the outside it negates it's stealth).

      The whole idea of the Swedes is to take advantage of them pretty much living in a big forest, so their planes can make due with just roads and does require a massive setup to operate.
      I wish we had went with their planes here in Denmark instead of the F-35.

    • @tarmaque
      @tarmaque Год назад +9

      @@Rikard_Nilsson Yeah, it's a considerably better fighter than the F-35 in all sorts of ways. The question, as always, is what kind of war are you going to be fighting? In modern air combat stealth is REALLY overrated. Comparing the Gripen E/F to the F-35 is not really a fair comparison anyway. To either aircraft. The Gripen is a better comparison to the F-16 C, which has a more comparable role.

When you add this to RAF and German euro fighters and French fighters , also world class, it would be possible to establish air dominance in a matter of a weeks-game over for any Russian offensive after that.

      Russia has nukes. This means there will be no air dominance. There will be no war against Russia, or there will be the end of the world.
      It is all a game of posturing. Posturing that will prevent them from invading Finland and Sweden for sure, but this war against Russia that everyone seems so exited about, will never happen.
      Or if it does happen, we will all be burned to charcoal before we hear the news of it.

      Gripen is unique in that it is equipped with and can use several of the different systems used by other fighter jets seamlessly. It can get coordinats from other tracking systems and use it (I believe 360) and over horizon, making it possible to fire flying in another direction and out of sight.
      But they would still need to find a stealth jet, that's usually easiest when you stand in front of it. 😂

      As the plans to assemble them in Lviv are clearly not currently possible, Sweden should strongly consider supplying some to Ukraine in the meantime, along with the necessary support and training.
