    The "AK" in AK5 comes from the swedish word for assualt rifle, AutomatKarbin. The FNC design is "heavily inspired" by the Karlashnikov, so it makes total sense for english speakers to think the AK came from there.
    Sweden also calls the H&K G3 the AK4 ;)

    The Ak 5 (Swedish: Automatkarbin 5 ⓘ, English: Automatic Carbine 5) is a license-built Swedish version of the Belgian FN FNC assault rifle, with certain modifications, mostly to adapt the weapon to the partially subarctic Swedish climate. The Ak 5 is the current service rifle of the Swedish Armed Forces, adopted in 1986, partially replacing the Ak 4, a license-built version of the Heckler & Koch G3.

      the AK5 was on test at Flygbasjägarna 87-88 as the only ones who had it out on a regular unit then.
      after that in 89-90 it started being more widespread.

    I think that there is good story about the fact that Sweden are joining NATO and thus becoming allies to Denmark :)
    Our two nations might have cooperated informally in terms of safety already, but to think that two nation that before back in history spend so many year being at war with each other in the nordic region are now becoming allies... i think that is a message of peace and international cooperation that we need more than ever :) That overcoming of old rivalries are possible over time! Even if the change of Swedens policy of neutality that they have had since at least ww2 is more to due with the threat of Russia than a new found connection with Denmark. Nevertheless Sweden becoming part of NATO will bind our nations closer :)
    Danes and swedes might tease each other, but deep down we share a lot of history and culture as scandiavians :) - skål til mine svenske brøder og søster!

      Swedens neutrality was always greatly exagerated. Millitarily and politicaly all nordic nations stayed close during the cold war.
      The plans for mining Öresund so that Swedish and Danish minefields would link up would be one example.
      Finland and Sweden joining NATO is the final step of formalizing those bonds and makeing it clear to everybody that we stand united.

    I was in the US Marine Corps. My last duty station was a training and educational base at Coronado, California (1977). One of the high points of my time at the base was when we hosted a symposium for all allied and non-aligned Marine Corps around the world. We had the British Royal Marines, the Netherlands Marines, Indonesian Marines, and Korean Marines, and … the Swedish Coastal Artillery. This was the closest thing the Swedes had to a “marine corps”. But the Swedish government changed that with a law passed in 2000. Rather than a more passive force, like the Coastal Artillery, they changed to a true amphibious corps of two regiments. The plan was that if war broke out and key islands, like Gotland, were occupied, they wanted an amphibious force capable of retaking them aggressively.

    • @SonsOfLorgar
      @SonsOfLorgar 2 месяца назад +3

      The thing with the Swedish costal artillery is that it always consisted of a static and a mobile element.
      The static element was responsible for the costal batteries, mine stations, surveillance radars, fort defense infantry & AAA and logistics. The mobile element consisted of amphibious infantry, costal rangers, assault and pioneer/EOD divers, sea mine laying division, light and heavy surface launched anti ship missiles, mobile anti ship artillery (120mm clip fed self-deploying towed gun-howitzers) and mobile costal defense AAA & SAMs as well as the marine helicopter division. (Boeing sea-knight and Super Puma utility helicopters kitted for Sea search&rescue in both peace and war, SF insertion/extraction and submarine hunting in littoral archipelagos and at sea.)
      It was the Swedish costal artillery helicopters and their surface rescue operators who, in mid storm at night, rescued those that survived the MS Estonia passenger ferry disaster.

      The new rifle will be designated the Ak24, and is a Finnish adaptation variant of the AR (HK-416 iirc)
      It will be adopted in 5.56×45, 7.62×51 and one larger caliber for dedicated snipers as well as three different barrel lengths depending on branch and personal role.
      The Ak24 will be entirely replacing both the ak5 and ak4 in both the homeguard militia as well as the regular professional and conscript branches. The switch is estimated to be complete in 2026 iirc.

So today the new handgun is not available, so they shot to a number of millions to buy in AK4 and AK5 to have these weapons until Finland the new Finnish weapon came but this money ended up instead in the Finnish weapon which does not exist.

    The Swedish rifle is called the AK-5 based on the Belgian FNC, the less well known successor to the FAL. The AK prefix used by Sweden is unrelated to the Russian AK’s, the Swedish designation is basically just short for “automatic rifle” and has been used on a variety of guns even if they have nothing in common with the other “AK’s”. The actual Russian AK variant your thinking of might be the RK-62 and the more modern RK-95 of the Finish armed forces.

    • @vicolin6126
      @vicolin6126 2 месяца назад +2

      Yeah, bit of a shame we Swedes are so practical when naming things. Literally just naming it for what it is :)
      Problem with that can be when foreigners see a Swedish-made gun called "AK" - I mean you can't blame them for thinking of Russian guns. Moving forward, just to create less confusion, maybe they could designate the next automatic carbine as "AC" (or something completely different).

    If you trim your beard down under the chin the mask fits pretty well in most cases depending on the shape of your face. If you have a beard you also has to test the mask inside a tear gas chamber, and if it doesn't leak the beard is allowed.
    The black tactical vest/plate carrier also works as a life jacket and is used when boarding. They also use the beige-green ish plate carrier (similar color of the helmets) that is a little lighter but does not dubble as a life jacket.
    5:55 it is actually not a muzzle protector, it is basically a blue rubber band. The blue signifies that you are shooting color cartridges, like paintball. You can also see the blue part on their pistols. It is used in cqb environments for practice. I guess they are using it here to get a more realistic effect than blanks and also to keep the noise down because the Swedish Armed Forces are one of the few countries in the west that still uses wood tip blanks. And they sound basically just as loud as real ammunition, which is not optimal for practice in confined spaces like on a boat.
