Yesterday I completed the Santa moon. Tonight this little guy. My intention was to make and gift the carvings but every time I come upstairs from my work shop and show them to my husband he say, “Nope, they stay in this house “🤷♀️BTW, cant seem to master the eyeballs, but, I can make some wicked eyebrows and nose holes😂
The aspect of Santa emerging from the block is eye catching. I may never reach this level of carving, but that does not take away from the joy of watching the work unfold. Thank you!
Always a pleasure to follow your videos.
I have SO many 1x1x4 basswood blanks, now I have SO MANY Santa gifts!!!
I got the magazine good wood carving magazine 😊Thanks good job on Santa linker😊
I have been carving for over 35 years. Never have I been so successful since I have been watching your videos. You have a great way in what you do. Thanks much.
A reindeer, Mrs. Clause , an elf would be wonderful to see! Thank You Doug for showing us what is possible🎄
The Man is a master!!
Thanks Doug
Really like your santas
I'll have to carve one enjoyed Doug
Thanks a lot for this great tutorial! It was really useful for me
Ya knooowww, I followed your channel, several years ago, for your outdoor content, BUT can't help but watch the carving content, as well. It's just so fascinating and engaging to watch the process unfold as you go. Great upload!
Great video Doug
That magazine should put YOU on their cover...many times! Keep putting whatever is on your brain. And, love that tee shirt. In my opinion, you are a very cool carver. Happy holidays from Texas,USA, big Linker fan.
Thanks! And Merry Christmas
Another fun project. Thanks
Another great video, Doug! Love your shirt, too! Merry Christmas!
Thanks again for sharing !
What I really like about your detailed Santas and gnomes are the different sizes. That requires different size tools and experience using them. So these techniques are portable to your own caricatures and carvings. Great job as always Doug.
Been struggling with eyes lately. This is exactly what I needed! Another great project. Thanks!
Thanks!
Happy Holiday's Doug!
I added a little twist. I took my 1x1x6’s and marked them at 1.5”, 3”, 4.5”. Then gouged out around the 3” to separate the two smaller sections. The line at 1.5 and 4.5 gave great center line reference points and having the full stick allowed me better control when working on the 3” side I wasn’t holding them I flipped it around and repeated. These Santa’s are great and easy to whip out I do them sitting in tree stand hunting or while quietly watching TV.
Then when I have 2 Santa’s but I’ve done two snow men, Christmas trees, elves also I just take a saw and cut them apart at the 3” mark.
Thank you for giving me a solid project for my 1x1x6’s!
I love the self portrait! Looking grand Mr Linker💚🇬🇧🌱
Doug, many of us are poor folks. And we can't afford fancy knives and gouges. But we all have utility knives. Can you do the one series over using just a utility knife. No sharpening needed, just change the blade. Possible ? Anyway. LOL
Brilliant thanks Doug. You can never have too many Santas. ❤❤
Another great idea for the 1 x 1 series.
How about a 1 x1 elf for next Christmas?
Great carve
Just love these 1x1s Doug,
I really love your videos Doug. Your videos got me started with whittling. I find it very enjoyable. The simplicity of carving a piece of wood has done wonders with my anxiety.
I always use the term MILLED SURFACES.
Awesome, bring them on Doug. I just love all you show us.
Can’t wait to start carving this little Santa!! ❤thank you Uncle Doug!
Thanks Doug, always wait for your santa video, they are great, love them.
Wonderful carve Doug, Will replay in PM and follow instructions. I wonder how many Floridians are following you.
Yep artsy is good. And many thanks for showing such details on carving the eyes and nose. Usually they are hard to see when watching a video but you did a great job. So much easier to understand now.
Pretty dog gone nice doug
Doug is on a roll here…love it
Great carving for a neat little gift. Your a genius with the 1x1s.
This looks like a lot of fun but imdon't have any gouges!!😂
Thank you Doug. Hope you and your family have a joyous holiday season.
Thanks Doug this was a pleasure to watch, as always. Much appreciated ❤
i love this. i think i may try it!
you're so good, doug. thank you so much for all the joy you've given me over the last year+. i'm carving something almost every day now. the way you've de-mythologized carving, and made it so simple is a real skill in a teacher. so, thanks, teacher!
I am watching your video it might be simple to you but not for somebody who's just beginning I really enjoy watching your videos they are great my name is Don I live in the UK I have been watching your videos and I try and get ready to go my first carving was Meridian star and I tried to carve the moon like yours but didn't come at anywhere like it but quite pleased with it keep the good workout all of your videos are very interesting
So calming to watch you carve 👌

I'm not getting time today or within weeks but yeah you are my teacher for characteristic people. Love your work
I'm getting your magazines soon positive it will be helpful
Thanks Doug
Thanks for another awesome tutorial. Love the 1x1 series.
That was awesome Doug! I already carved the Santa on the basswood triangle. You just inspired me to tackle this one also. Great job keep them coming.
Fantastic carve. Thank you. I will carve many of these. Love it
Is there any other way to make these cuts (specifically eye sockets) if a person doesn’t have the gouges you use?
Looks great Doug can't wait to try it out!!
You're always a great inspiration! Thank you for sharing you skills in a such a calm and relaxing way.
Love this one
Love it! Gonna make a few of these!! Hope they turn out even half as good as yours!
Great video, Doug!
Would also like a video on the other Santa now that after this video I finally get cheeks that look right lol
Nice one Doug 👍
Great carve .
It is fun! Thanks.
Great fun. Thanks.
Doug, you do fantastic work! You may have spoken of this before but, even if you did, you should let viewers know how many years you've been doing these carvings. You don't get that good overnight and some who are just starting may get frustrated when they can't carve as well as you do.
You also might show some of your work, if you have any, of when you were just starting out. I think new comers to the craft would be encouraged by it, seeing your early work that wasn't as good as you're now doing. All crafts take time and practice to become good at as does anything else one does. Just a thought.
Nice one, looks great👍🏼
Thanks
Great detail as always I learn something new. if you cut the wood on a 45 you could car Santa on the front and a tree on the other, make a knife guard, just a thought. Have a wonderful Christmas.
What size number 9 is it? 1/4 - 1/8 - 1/16??? Or should I ask the sizes or the gouges? Nose and eyes
Have you tried any fire hydrants? 1x1 or any fire crackers?
What kind of weld are you doing? I'm at this stage of my build. And wad gonna hire it out. But wanna try doing it myself.
I want to buy a few of the gouges and vee tools. Should I be looking for a set or might I need to buy individually. Are those "SWISS MADE" Pfeil's?
I just made a tool video a couple weeks back you should check it out
Woohoo ! I’m first . Merry Xmas Doug
Tried using a gouge on a cheap carving jack. Fail!! I need to expand my kit. But this is out of my capabilities at the moment.
🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅 👍🏻💪 Thanks Doug 🔪
Great video as always. I have been wanting to carve a Santa and this is the one I'm going to do first. Thanks also, I want to subscribe to the magazine but I'll be traveling for a while and I was wondering if you would recommend getting it in the digital form or is the actual paper magazine the better way?
I was wondering Doug when you spell your last name.It sounds like,'L"A"NKER". Great carvings as usual.
Great video Doug. Looks like you have trimmed the handle length on your Swiss Made v tool and gouge. Is that to make them less back-heavy ( is there such a term??) when you choke up on them? Asking for a friend…😊. Thanks for all you do for carving.
Yes but just the ones i use for my little carvings -i like the feel better than regular palm tools
прекрасно)
Where can I get a 5mm no 9. Cant seem to find one here in UK. All too big or too small or not correct profile?
All my tools are Swiss made Pfeil so you have a better chance than me over there
Lol ok thanks. @@dougLinker
😁👍🏼
Getting 1x1 pieces cut in half diagonally without a bandsaw!! I am using my dremel - rotary tool with a little cutting disk. Nonè 9f my friends would cut the piece bc it was too small...n we are..old.
You can try a hatchet sitting on top and tap it with a hammer. Depending on the grain it may split right down the middle or be close enough that it doesn’t matter.
How many is a whack? 😂❤
👍👍👍👍🍺😎
Scusa Linker quanto è lungo il pezzo?. Volevo chiederti se quando fai i video puoi dare qualche misura in mm. Sono Italiano e non capisco l' inglese. Grazie un saluto. P.S. sei GRANDE !!!!
Hi Fab, it is 25 mm x 25 mm x 75mm...hope that helps.
Очень круто👍
I've managed to get hold.of a 6mm number 8 gouge. Wcoiod.i make that work?
100%
Thanks Doug! Have a happy Christmas
Thanks!
Thanks Paul!
Thanks!
Thanks David!! Appreciate it
