- Jump in the Speed Academy Time Machine with us as we set the dial to 2001 to modify this "grandma spec" EG8 Honda Civic sedan into our high school dream machine. Sure, it may not be fast by modern standards, but in 2001 a B18C1 swapped EG was the stuff that teenage dreams were made of and this build is going to be keeping it OG with a selection of modifications that pay homage to the golden age of Honda tuning.

Nobody does it like speed academy, hopefully one day we can see a MCM X SA collab.
I would love that so much. These guys do such cool and good work.
MCM sucks 😂
MCM doesn't hold a candle to the taste level of speed academy. It's all hack stuff
Mcm is trash, 1 of the worst channels out there.
@@scottibass why you hating bro. MCM is the reason why so many channels exist rn. Not saying that’s why SA exists but in terms of this genre hey are the goats. MCM and SA collab would be like a Toyota and Yamaha link up, legendary.
I will never NOT be jealous of Honda hoods in service-mode.
Only rough thing is that the corner of the hood pushes the hood corner rubbers down and off their little mounting points to the cowl
E36 can do this too
@@matejsommer72So do Mercedes. Definitely a feature borrowed from the Germans.
@@JoshuasRecordingsGerman also “borrowed” a lot of tech and luxury from Acura and Honda, like 4WS
@@YaGotBusted Germans have "borrowed" car tech from the Japanese as much as the Japanese did for German manufacturing tech in WWII.
Y'all bringing back the B-series memories. Former DC2 owner here. Went LS/vtec and turbo'd with the old t3/t04 hybrids. So many hours in the garage. By todays standards, thing was stupid laggy, but when it hit it was fun.
Same had a 97 LS turbo lol no tune or anything
Thank for picking a 4 door. Those dont get enough love.
I remember those days helping my buddy swap a GSR into his sedan, we pulled the motor ourselves at a pick n pull. We were both total noobs, barely had any idea what we were doing.
Still don't.
Good times.
I remember messing up the firing order on my Honda. Mechanics laughed at me when I asked for help. Thank goodness for Hondatech forums.
Very good times.
This time last year I considered crypto without much knowledge and decided to have a consultation with a fiduciary, and it was incredibly insightful. I got into the market with 15k, One year and a couple of months in, and I'm up with 550k. I truly cannot stress enough how helpful experts in this field are!
how do y'all even make so much from crypto trading?
Market behavior can be complex and unpredictable. Mind if I ask you to recommend this particular advisor to whom you have used their services?
I’m so glad you made this video. I got a chance to watch it with my kids and show them how we used to do it back in the day! ❤
Red 94' Civic DX coupe lowered on Neuspeed yellow race springs, Tokico HD shocks and Neuspeed strut tower brace. K&N cone filter which made crazy induction sound. Greddy stainless steel cat back, DC Sports header and 16 X 8 six spoke wheels. Never got a chance to do a engine swap. Got t-boned by a E350 Ford van.
RIP
I was into Preludes and Accords during this era but vividly remember how large the Integra and Civic scene was.
Such great time to mod cars!
He he, being an original owner to an 1989 civic back in the day, I can totally remember Honda provided me with the white plastic key blank. I haven’t seen one in years, but they were definitely a thing back in the day
Had an 85 Accord and wife had 86 Civic. I was given one. It is Emergency lock out key. Keep it in your wallet .
I learned to drive in the early 90’s in my mom’s ‘EG civic’. In South Africa this car was called ‘Ballade’ and the top spec came with a unique-to-the-SA market, Integra sourced B18B3 engine. Great ‘first car’ to drive!
Tip: put the negative battery terminal on last to prevent arcing 👍
figured someone else would've spotted that obvious one.
I owned almost this same setup in 2006. 1992 civic vx hatch, gsr swap, tenabe medallion exhaust, wheels, tires, tien basic coilovers. Such a fun car.
Im 35 n bought a 95 eg sedan a month ago, putting an h22a under the hood, can't wait till she's done, would be cool if you guys did an h22a project at some point :)
That's awesome, hope the build executes well OP, congratulations on the car.
LOVE these nostalgia Honda builds! Kids these days will never understand it
THIS is why i love speed academy 👏
Yessss!! please do more
of this type of car builds of that era 2000. Good work guys.
Thanks for bringing up old memories. Seeing the Integra street race reminds me of racing around Richmond BC especially at Garage 5. A tiny little street...it was so sketchy. I had an EF Civic Si with a D16Z6 with Lightspeed header, intake and HKS exhaust, and a NOS 60 shot dry nitrous. So much fun. It did well but eventually turbos became more common and they would pull away in 3rd. Then I ditched the single cam for a B20 VTEC with a small turbo and ran it at 10 psi. That had me competitive again.
Looked like footage from the old Mischief DVDs.
Even though I was a H22 fanatic, I can appreciate this nice civic build. Thanks for bringing back memories.
We thought our slow cars were so fast after ICE upgrades. IYKYK
It will be just as much fun as you thought you had back then. Guaranteed. A truly well built, hopped up, 90s Honda will never not be fun.
Definitely taking me back to the late 90’s High School Days 👌🏽
Love these golden era hondas so much. Glad there has been so much content on them lately.
THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS YOU GUYS THIS IS THE ERA I GREW UP IN!!!!!!!!
I built over 30 Hondas since then
Street racing in the early to mid 2000s with over 500 to 1000 cars every single weekend!!!!!
I still have my built 95 Civic Coupe EX..... But did something different I built in NA ALL MOTOR D16Z6!!!!
I've built h series k-series J series and B series
But I love my old school all motor D series it surprises a lot of people with bolt on B series and lightly modded k-series with almost 200 hp at the wheel!!!
That intro got all the old feels. The nostalgia for the early 2000's is strong.
Had a 92 EG hatchback, 1991 Integra, and an 08 SI sedan, along with a few other JDM cars growing up. I love seeing all these new Honda build videos poping up lately.
I have a yonaka exhaust on my 9th gen si and it's absolutely perfect. Sounds great, a little louder than stock, no rasp or drone. Will always recommend it to anybody
What a shiny Civic, love to see it. Thank you for using a sedan by the way, these 4 doors don't get enough credit for how practical they are while also being nimble.
Man you guys nailed this, with janky coolant hose fixes and all 😅
This reminds of the Old Skool "The Power Hour" TV stuff.....Exciting Stuff!
Build a cool Honda like the BB6 1997-2001 Prelude 👍
At this time (2002-2004), I was 100% on the muscle car team. I wanted giant V8's, low rumbly exhaust, and chrome. I'm still not really into the ricer thing, but I can definitely appreciate it more.
this brought back so many memories - didn't struggle with the rear mount IIRC - i did all my installs with a engine hoist/crane - that part i left attatched when it went in top side. I remember going through 4 different engine combinations/swaps in my 94 hatch back in the day - still miss that car till this day - even though i have had a 350z, mustangs, countless bmw's and other cars. If i ever do start another project it will definitely be a civic from this era.
Awesome job. Wish i had the money like yall. Having my own garage full of project cars and having the time for it would be awesome
I did this exact swap in my 95 civic sedan it's definitely a great improvement over that d15b7. Nothing like giving heavy v8s a run for there money in a sleeper 25yr old civic.
Definitely the build that everyone wanted to do back in the day gsr engine and trans on 2dr or 4dr civic.awesome stuff guys
Hell yeah! I'm LOVING the throwback!! And all done with purpose! Great work gents
Good choice for the muffler. Looks normal-ish while putting out a decent sound. This reminds me of high school. First Fast and Furious movie came out and all the lowered pickups converted to lowered Civics overnight all running similar setups.
super excited for this build series as I am a EG sedan owner in Ontario as well !
Loving everything about this project. Back in the day we all wanted that Si hb or clean hero Honda but many of us had to settle on a more unpopular build option such a sedan like this. Guarantee this car is gonna be a blast to drive
Crazy how clean that car is man.
This was my first car!! Love it!
I've got a turbo k24 ej1. Absolute gem of a car. Love these little Hondas
This civic should be on the museum 😅
Love it guys, I had the 93’ hatchback with the wimpy 1.6 SOHC in it. Always wished I had the pockets to do this same swap. Can’t wait to see the rest of the build.
We should buy a honda....Had a couple of Ek3's back in the day. Nostalgia is hitting hard right now.
Really wanted to see the front mount intake from arospeed. Now your flexing the early 2000s
What a clean build! Always liked the eg 4 door
Loving the build. Reminds me of sitting in high school in the early 2000s thinking up builds reading Sport Compact Car, Turbo, Modified and Import Tuner. You know you're going to need NOS. Two big ones. You guys aren't amatuers with a heavy foot, so you won't blow yourselves to pieces ;)
This car is in a prestine condition ❤
Watching Speed Academy stretching the single jiggle 28mm hose into the 32mm B18 water pipe like a backyard builder was what I needed today.
Nostalgia is such a vibe… and intoxicating
Man I love me an EG! Always wanted a base model hatch stripped down with a k series! Childhood dream car!
Still have my B16 SiR swapped 94 coupe. I will never let it go. Also have the Yonaka exhaust. Hands down best sounding exhaust for the price
My favorite color Honda and u guys are building it I can’t wait
I'm doing right now, this exact same build. EG sedan B18C2 swapped.
Easiest way with the t brackets is to slip it in while the engine is still on the table before you put the engine and trans mounts in. Actually in some situations you can have the engine far enough forward that you can leave it attached to the motor and trans. Clear the subframe and slide it backwards
Gotta be the ocd guy. The black re finished valve cover is actually a type r cover. The red cover that was on is actually a gsr style cover. Gsr don’t have the H
These guys are the best love there content
Just ordered it! Thank you sir
Nostalgia Civic build? Heck yeah! I am here for it.
Very excited to see what happens with that E61
Thank you so much for not getting a raspy exhaust like the new "tuners."
lol, no matter how hard you try, it's always easier to put the T bracket in first, before putting the engine in. I've made that mistake, and I know others have. Live and learn! B series and EG/EK civics are the way to go. I know K's make great power, and at this point, the swap cost are about the same. BUT I still say the B16 and B18 are the best options. The sound, the look, it just works right!
In 03 I had a celica gts. The vvtli was one of the best sounding valve timing systems I've ever heard. I owned a gsr and a dc5 type s and still I long for that 2zzge.
I wish i would've hung onto my '95 4 door GS-R that car was soo clean 20 years ago.
5.0 Mustangs were dominating the streets coast to coast even tho they were 8-9 years old in 2k 2001
I do hope you put the D series in to a cool go-cart or off road buggy.
Nostalgic build in my young age 😍😍😍😭
Awwww the red VC looked soooo good though!
That’s clip at 0:30 was from the street racers / outlaws unleashed videos! I use to have both of the vhs tapes lol good old days
18:56 and that’s why you always plug in the positive first kids
And when unplugging do negative first the theory is to disable that battery shock before playing with that positive
Thing cranked INSTANTLY 😂🤝
Yay nostalgia! Do an E30 build next!
See this does bring back memories I have a red one in high school I don’t know about you guys but I had CRX, EF hatch, 4 door ef, and eg hatch and 4door the 4door eg was the best handling one out of all those!! By the way Honda tech still up lol
I love this Chanel just for all the Honda content haha
aww yeah... SA turning on their time machine again.
need more of this build!!
Such a cool sleeper! Y’all always have great builds that are relatable 🤘
I remember back in the day GSR bottom in type our head DC sport headers AEM cold air intake type R transmission 150 shot of nitrous and epoxying the mounts to have solid mounts type R axles cuz they're stronger than the GSR axles straight pipe no catalytic converter 3 inch all the way back I'm sitting in the garage using a Dremel to port the intake manifold and port the throttle body😅😂
Oil cap spinning at 19:56 got me tripping!
yes lol this guy kinda out of it he also got electrocuted cos he put on the negative battery cable before the red one which u should not do.
I love quick builds ❤
This is the kind of video i love
Cannot wait for B20v Build lol... Gonna be taking notes
I’m in west ga and east Alabama area, and only car I’ve ever owned with rust, I bought from Jacksonville FL. it was a 91 Si hatch. I’ve had 4 EfS. A few 8th gen civics. Couple evos. A few acuras. Mercedes X4. 3 trucks. 1 was a 85 c10. So many cars. And none except that one had rust. It’s normal here. If I see rust I’m shook lol.
This is what am talking about! This cars ❤❤❤❤
Damn right down memory lane. I had the same civic same color same mods minus my exhaust was a dc sport world sport style exhaust similar to the yonaka exhaust and a b16a2 engine
I was never a Honda boy, I had a modified 1986 300zx turbo
,but this is a cool build.
Man o man o man i love me a civic I had so many back on the days
I'm always tempted to buy an EG particularly an EG6 since thats what I owned. But then I have to remind myself that it had its issues and the s2000 I've owned for 10 years was my dream car back then for a reason
Thanks for building a B series instead of the k series that's been done to death(for good reason). At least a B series can be made to sound good, even if it makes less power. It's still plenty fast in a light chassis like that.
I had a greddy evo2 exhaust on my Civic with the fart can and surprisingly it wasn't loud or annoying til I got on it and cracked VTEC lol 🤣
Paradise Blue Green Pearl - Best golden era Honda color
Nice one 👍
Love this build! All the nostalgic vibes. Can you do a H swap in my CE1 RHD drive wagon next lol!!😂
I used a heat gun to warm up the D-series radiator hose to slide into the B-series engine. Works like a charm
early 2000s? I was rockin' my DA9 (non vtec) lowered on eibach springs, tokico Illumina 5 ways, DC sports header, Tanabe racing medallion catback, and a surprisingly effective Ractive intake! 🤣🤣 stock alloys though... man I miss that car
Loving it!!! Needs a valved muffler tho!
Yesss, the van is out of the way and we are back to juicy car content.
I LOVE IT!!!! MY HEART
I had a Taurus SHO love that car
love the build!
