You can just put your rental car license plate in the Elexa app. No one is checking. For the ID card you can also use your Thai relatives identity. No one's checking that either. ;D
I remember we imported redbull to our shop in Norway in 1989, exactly same bottle as you showed but with a much simpler label. Almost as a medisin flask. 😊
The lack of heat in Thai cars is sometimes a problem. It's 20°C outside at night, 100%RH and you want to dehumidify. Without heater you either have to choose to be too cold but dry, or have decent temp but humid/sticky. Been there, done that.
I drove a mini in Wales one winter in 1980, after we’d stopped when I shut the door the heater stopped. It was freezing fog at -2 C, now that was cold and I couldn’t see out either because the windscreen fogged up then froze

Only cheap cars don't have heaters. My Mazda cars had heaters since 2008. There is also no problem in my BYD Dolphin.
If you didn’t knew yet, Isabelles conjunctivitis is highly contagious. Hope she gets well soon and rest of the family stays healthy 🙏🏻 She should avoid touching her eyes as good as possible and ass (always stay sterile)
This is why Thailand is called a develop-ing country. I think they ask for survey information. Perhaps so they’ll know what kinds of car and how much of the charging network is being used.

But Thailand develops very fast in the EV markets. The charging infrastructures is not too bad. Brands like EV Station are now building charging hubs with more than 2 charging points. But you have plan in advance if a charging location is working and check your apps in advance.
I used to drive up to Tak from BKK and back, about 25 years ago. Friend of the of my step-mum had a beautiful old Thai teak house there on a couple of hundred rai parkland. Did it in a 1978 mercedes 300D. always left BKK at about 10pm, driving through the night was so much easier and more pleasant!
Enchance can make something for EGMP platform (first gen at least, most of the facelifts have this already): Manual battery precondition, precondition battery when a charger is selected in aa/cp, add turn by turn in HUD from aa/cp, wireless aa/ac (most navigations have wifi chip integrated but is not used because of license issues...), lock/unlock when leaving/approach, close windows/lid when locking the car, one push close windows for back seat doors, netflix/youtube on navigation while stationary (the Korean versions have it), lock the car while in camping mode, access video and record from car's cameras, turn on seat heating/ventilating while using remote climate control, sync key to profile and apply saved settings when unlocking.
The charging experience there sounds almost like the US. LOL I know you have used the Hyundai/Kia navigation system and there is a reason people don't use it! LOL So having people use Carplay or AA is likely what they are already doing anyway. Always interesting to see glimpses of what these places are like. The Ioniq 5 looks like a good place to be.
First time I went to Bangkok was from Jakarta, got out from airport (the old one) and thought i was still in Jakarta, everything looked and sounded familiar, till I hear people talking and see the signs are in different language. Watching these video, I see outside Bangkok Thailand is much nicer than Indonesia is outside Jakarta, Rural Indonesia is much more run down and the roads are much worse condition, so you make Thailand look beautiful to me 👍

The Ioniq 5 was my favourite pick on my list and I would be ok with this version. Unfortunately it is still too expensive compared to other EVs in Thailand and Hyundai has also only a few dealers. My next dealer is more than 200 km away. But Hyundai has signed a contract with the Thai BOI and will starting assembling EVs in Thailand.
Could be stripped down software and no navigation because it is a rental. It's a quite common trick by the rental firms to rent you a GPS at a silly day rate.
Totally agree! Lived in Thailand when I was a kid in the 70s (father worked there fo 4 years), been living there on and off since then. The food has changed, everything, especially in the north and central regions is laced with sugar these days!
Nice cool néon underglow lights on Trucks, now that's a proper market man things look pretty fresh 😋, hey Bjorn is there a electronic market Over there ?
@TeslaBjorn - in the market in Thailand can you get what the Fillipinos I used to work with called Adidas…………… chicken’s feet? In China I even found Chicken’s Feet flavour and Frog’s flavour Pringles…….. not for me, I did try one of each and NO, not for Europeans! The Kimchee flavour Pringles were good but REALLY spiced as well as very heavily flavoured with Garlic.
The Ioniq 5 has a competitive price here in Spain, it starts at 29.000€ with the small battery, just a few thousand more than the Kona EV, which is surprising. Although, no one seems to care about the base model, and most of the Ioniq 5 I've seen are the bigger battery top trim.
Improvements? One example - Hyundai/Kia discharges the 12V battery at almost every acceleration to save energy, Aux Battery Current turns negative (12V SOC must be over 82%).
I experienced the same in Hong Kong earlier this year. I bought a prepaid sim card for mobile internet and I had to take a picture of my passport, upload it and await approval. I took a few hours, but luckily I bought the sim card at the MTR station close to my hotel and it was evening already, so the next morning everything was done. But those setup procedures are very annoying, cannot imaging having to do this every time for a new charger network.
No TomTom is a huge plus! TomTom shouldn't exist since like 2001... I only ever use Google Maps via USB. Full Google integration is coming in approx 2026 to Ioniq 5. That's how it should have been from day 1...
Classic Bjorn is back: testing EV's, chargers and local food. There is no other RUclipsr like him. I'll take it!
Great to see the Thai market and charging infrastructure. Bjørn drives through the night to bring this to us. 😀
Thailand is really moving fast forward (BYD Dolphin owner here since 15 months and 37,000 km).
Hope your daughter has a quick recovery and jumps around again in Thailand soon!

It's easier to find a wifey than register in an EV charging app. :-)
It depends. But you have to do it at home when you have the time. EV Station and the network from BYD works fine for me.
I remember we imported redbull to our shop in Norway in 1989, exactly same bottle as you showed but with a much simpler label. Almost as a medisin flask. 😊
Great video! Enjoy your way of exploring stuff👍😆
Thanks for showing bits of Thailand 😊

I once went to doi Inthanon in a car without heating. It was 5 degrees and 100% humidity. That was a cold trip.
I drove a mini in Wales one winter in 1980, after we’d stopped when I shut the door the heater stopped. It was freezing fog at -2 C, now that was cold and I couldn’t see out either because the windscreen fogged up then froze

PEA saved my ass so many times! 😂
Totally agree with you about the EV apps, such a pain to set up and there are too many of them
I prefer EV Station because of the other infrastructure at the PTT gas stations. But I only seldom do long trips (3 within 15 months).
welcome home dear Bjørn .❤❤❤❤❤

Ha, Welcome to charging in America. At least you have options. I hope baby girl get better soon. All the best

The food is nice but... I wonder how Asia would look like without plastic.

Cool, thanks for doing these videos on your holidays 😊

Would you buy a 2 year old Ioniq 5 in Europe? Can you please do a test of a used one when back in Norway ?! 🙏👍

I just searched google images for a "foreign thai ID number" 🤣. yes, it is quite silly.
24:40 Thumbs up for the idea!

No. They strip it down so it can compete against Tesla and the Chinese brands.
Love your Thai videos..! ❤
IONIQ 5 is a good car overall
Björn should get the job as the minister of e-transportation in Thailand!😂
What EV would you purchase for Thailand driving, and what about RWD vs AWD?
That redbull comes in a medicine like bottle.
7 was good before, now everything is so sweet in thailand. Even the burgers are full of sugar :(

The consumption still efficient same as in Norway.
iirc Thai spec ioniq 5 came from Indonesia, and it's only rwd and have different battery chemistry that affect peak charging curve

green fanta for the win

i don't try to buy drugs haha
"when paying is hard......."🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Wait until you try Tesla network ;) it will be similar experience I think.
KYC laws are annoying but it's not up to the network provider, even the BTS payment cards are required to do this.

I like your content alot regarding the channels main focus, but the eating parts of some videos are really not for me.
I've always dreamed about getting a bucket of KFC and then just eating the skin...

❤❤❤
Ioniq 5 is the best car. It needs AI and self driving .
No! AI and self driving is at least a decade away - and it wouldn't work in Thailand either.
