Exploring abandoned places is my hobby and finance it all out of my own pocket and the donations I get from the people who love watching the documentaries we make... A small donation would be greatly appreciated! ► / brosofdecay
Many decades ago a family from the old world decided to take a chance of a lifetime, they packed up all their belongings and made the retros journey from their home country Croatia Towards the new world. After some time they found their dream place to live, which ended up being in the far north of Canada, where they build themselves a lovely little house that they later converted into a cozy B&B that could host only a guest at a time. Their whole life they lived inside the house, and they even got 2 daughters who grew up there. After visiting their home country numerous times, the daughters both decided that they wanted to move back to their heritage, they left their lives behind in Canada, and both started new lives in Croatia. The parents still lived out their lives in Canada, but unfortunately got sick and both passed shortly after each other, the father passed away last in the year 2005. Ever since that day, nobody visited the house again, the daughters seemingly don’t have any interest in what is left behind inside.
For the first time in 2 decades, we will reopen its doors and give you a glimpse of the inside.

The other channels do not compare! Leslie is smart, caring and handsome and a great narrator, storyteller. Bravo!!
You must be his mother!!
Yes he is his voice is so enjoyable.
Yes sweet Lesley has a way about him.
He caresses the items with his voice.
Veryjamfspme o love watching and listening to him❤
as a child of Croatian Immigrant parents who first came to the USA in the 70s, this house brings such familiarity, sadness, and warmth to my heart. The Croats who fled the homeland during that time for various reasons, mostly to escape communism for a bigger, better chance in life, lived with the same heart. They all left their Croatia, and brought it here with them. The flags, the music, the food, the pictures, its as if I am looking at my own house. Branko was a patriot, a Croat who loved his country, but also had love and respect for Canada, who gave him a opportunity to create a life. His wife was definitely of German background. Thank you for exploring this home. It truly brings a tear to my eye.

Greetings (Pozdrav) from New York🇺🇸
The “carpet” on the toilet seat was usually sold in a set with a contoured rug to place on the floor around the toilet, a rectangle shaped one for in front of the sink/or tub and a cover for the toilet water tank and its lid. This was popular in the 50’s and 60’s. The swag lamps were common in the USA and still in use in some homes today. I think the wife was of German descent as Hildegard’s is a German name. This grandma from Minnesota thanks you young fellows for an interesting video! 👍🏻👍🏻
So saddened watching this. Hi there how are you doing with your family I do hope you’re safe from the virus?
Yes I thought that straight away as he said about the German connection that the lady's name was German
…and they’re still around (ugh, unfortunately!) I can see the somewhat practical purpose of keeping one’s feet/bum off the cold floor/lid, but at faaaar too high a nauseating moldy/bacterial cost for me!
Yes, I think so, too. Hildegard used to be a very common name in Germany some time ago. Best regards from a grandma from Hannover, Germany to a grandma in Minnesota.
@@IngridHubenthal hello! Hope you’re keeping warm. We’re hearing that there’s a fuel shortage/ high prices in Germany and the rest of Europe. Prices are high here also but still available. My mother’s family came from Germany. When my mother and her family didn’t want we children to know what was being talked about they’d speak German😊. My grandma was a Froemming and she married my grandpa who was a DeMenge . Best wishes to you 👍💖
I can't understand why so many people leave pictures behind in these places. You definitely found a lot of nice things in there. It's just so sad that so many memories have been left behind.I love the way you bring their stories back to life for us.Just be careful going to these places and as always, we love you too guys.

@@milenkoivos9917 Dobro jutro Milenko.
Da, tužno je kada radiš cijeli život da
stekneš nešto za sebe i svoju obitelj
i onda sve propadne ako nikome nije
stalo. Čudno je da djeca nisu došla
pokupiti barem osobne predmete i
fotografije.

And I love how respectful you are - replacing the box of photos so carefully back under the table, rather than just leaving it on top. Perfect !
"Zenith, a company that I have never heard of" lol, Zenith was only one of the most popular electronics manufacturers years ago in the US/Canada. I think LG bought them out at some point.
Sad how fast a house dies when it's no longer loved or a home❤
Thanks for this…a Family who are long time close friends of mine moved to Toronto from Croatia, while keeping their home in Zaharia as a vacation property. Their home was part of the old city wall, and was shelled during the Serbs-Croatian War. So the photos of damaged houses may have been from that time.
Older Canadian homes, like mine (built at the turn of the 20th Century), are well built and solid, made of brick and stone. Homes built after WWII were not as well made, in the 1940s and 50s, and were smaller. Many were torn down to build new style homes in the 1960s and 70s…these houses were not built nearly as well, and once abandoned they fall to ruin quickly. My home is still in very sturdy condition, and will be standing long after we are gone.🖤🇨🇦
I am 100% Croatian and have to say I appreciate your loyalty & respect to Croatia,. It looks like the tablecloth on the dining room table was probably handmade, either embroidered or cross stitch. I imagine it was a beautiful house in it's day. Thank you for your dedication to finding homes like this. I love you guys, be safe in your travels.
11:40 Original bottle was 'travarica'- strong alchohol drink (rakija) made of diferent kinds of herb, after that was pobably some home made drink - also rakija or maybe pelinkovac (bitter liquer from herbs, simmilar to Jegermeister). 19:50 Trenk was a sort of brandy popular in Yugoslavia in 70-s and 80-s.
Lesley, I used to watch others that go into this places but you are the best ! You show in drawers etc. so interesting when you do these videos !!!! 💕❤️
It always feel sad to see old photos left behind like no one wanted to keep these memories of their past life.
This always breaks my heart, as well. But, if their mother was like me - I always had duplicates made!
That's the dilemma I have. I have no biological children, so what will become of all my family photos and memories? It's sad.
Try and locate the daughters on social media. It would be a whole new angle. Save family history.
You and Danny are my favorite exploring duo! Keep up the great work.
yeah,,,but the way he needs to touch everything makes me nervous....
I loved knowing Lesley and Danny will be together. You make a great team!!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰
I'm from Croatia. This will be an interesting one. Oh, their last name is pronounced as "Pashalich".
Tell us tell us lol. Are the lamps typical of Croatia as Willie suspects ? What else can you tell us that stood out for you ?
B😄😄🙋♀🙋♀👍👍👍
Hello, Lesley! That instrument you found in the upstairs office is called a gusle. My paternal Croatian grandfather made them. I grew up in Chicago where there is a large Croatian community. Loved this video! ❤️
Hildegard I think is an old german name, my aunt is also named by this...the carpet on the toilette we have also in germany since I can think. When you are going to buy a carpet for the floor there is always one for the toilette as well, as set...one for the floor, one for in front of the toilette and one for above...it is to make the toilette more "cosy" because we see the bathroom as important room as well. So we want to have this room also nice...the c in the name of the owner ich spoken as sch or ch not as c as I know...this was a nice house and I enjoyed watching the video, thanks for sharing Leslie
I was just about to comment the same thing about Hildegard. Perhaps she was German. That would make perfect sense.
Just watched the Georgia explore that you did with Maureno on Thanksgiving, and wanted to say thank you for taking care of your friend. You guys work well together. Can not wait for this upcoming explore, it looks like it will be amazing.
Thx Lesley for an enjoyable video, wouldn't it be cool if someone watching knew the family and could give some history?
My father’s family is from Croatia. I had their surname growing up-Kolic’ (Kolich).
And my surname is Sipić (Sipich). 👍🏽
That sound nice, hi there how are you doing with your family I do hope you’re safe from the covid?
the machine in the Croatia house is called a vaporizer guys sure enjoy you guys
I will never understand why grown children do not retrieve pictures from their dead parents homes. Those things can't be replaced. I also don't understand why they don't clean out the house and sell it when their parents die. Nice house. Seaglass green is the color in the upstairs bath. Zenith was a common brand of TV in the US. Too bad it's decaying, not long till it probably collapses. The Vicks thing is humidifier. The carpet on top of the toilet is common in the US. They may buy matching rugs for the bath.
Heyy Lesley, what an elegant looking living room with beautiful furniture! - I am already excited to watch your video and
to be part of your evening lifestream. - Stay safe, dear bro, peace and kindest regards.
Such beautiful light plates, fixtures, and cool books! Here in the states, a carpet top for the toilet would match the other floor carpets in the bathroom, its sold as a set to decorate your bathroom. Super weird but was very common in the states back in the 70's. Keep up the great work, be careful as always ❤️
The upstairs bedroom was probably for the parents. I also think the father was Croatian and the mother was German. Hildegarde is a German name.
This was a big thing in the 70-80s. The hanging lamps saved room in your home and put light where you wanted. They came in glass balls also.
Hi Lesley! The Vicks device is actually a vaporizer. Very good explore. Keep them coming!
몇 천년된것도 잘 안부셔지는데 집이 모두 부셔질것 같으니 조심하세요 90년데 진것갔군요 수고 많으십니다
Hi Leslie, the toilet seat cover and the matching rug around the base of the toilet usually helped when you got out of the shower or bath (if the room had one). besides having a bath mat, these were good to keep you from slipping on the floor with your wet feet. The toilet seat cover was good to sit on without getting a shot of cold on the tush when you sat down to dry yourself off.
Amazing place. too bad the girls left everything behind. If they ended up having children, they wouldn't have anything to show (pictures) their kids, of their life growing up.
Hey Bros! This photo is magnific! This episode must be sad, but very emocional! 👏🥰🇧🇷!
I'm from Quebec Canada. I am Happy you're in my Country!!!
44:40 Its an instrument named 'gusle', traditional bowed string instrument from south of Croatia. Its play with fiddlestick (like on violine, but it has only one string)during a male singing.
Oh I wonder if I know these people because there is a huge majority of those people from former Yugoslavia back in the days that would go to Canada and United State too.
I think the room in the top floor was for the owners, as there is a label "Private" on the door. The pink room, which was probably the children's room previously, might have been turned into a guest room later.
You explore places so thoroughly in comparison to other explorers
Excellent thankyou.
I agree, another explorer I watch occasionally never does these things ,and the video is pretty boring in comparison.
56:58 Its from owner of the place, not their dougther. Name Branko is a short version of Branimir (or Branislav)
Thanks! I wondered. What he was saying and the timing didn't make any sense at all. The stories he comes up with make me laugh.
This house was amazing! Someone had excellent taste in decory! Just wanted to say that the plastic thing with Vicks on it is a vaporizer. It produces warm steam to open airways (like in the nose). Helps immensely when you are sick. The t.v., Zenith was a top brand of it's time, 50's to 80's. I live in Chicago and it's plant was just a few blocks away. Leslie if you find a place in all your travels that makes a Cuban coffee get over there fast! The machine goes from one end of the place to the other. Hands down the best coffee you've ever had! Thanks for all your videos and thank you for the immense respect you show to these glimpses back in time! ❤️❤️❤️
HI Leslie, love your explores, those hanging lamps were very popular in the USA in the 1970"s
Not sure if it was mentioned but those lamps hanging from the ceiling in the corners are called swag lamps.
So many charming touches from the beautiful couches, light switches, crystal chandeliers. The bathrooms were decorated so nicely. I noticed in the kitchen the glass in some of the cabinets and design was very nice. Thank you for sharing. The ceiling in one of the bedrooms, if you hadn't have told us that it was pockets , I would have thought by the look of it that it was an ornate, bottom of the ocean sculptures :)
Same here. Hi Patra how are you doing with your family I do hope you’re safe from the virus?

@@patrawish874 hi patra would you mind we chat up somewhere preferable so we could get to know each other’s as friends?
We also use that piece on toilet bowls here in the USA, usually it has a matching rug and rug in front of the toilet also. Depends on how you want to decorate your bathroom.
I am Dutch but born in Canada and those hanging lights that you keep wondering about were a popular thing back in the 70s and 80s in Canada. I seen them in lots of homes not much in the present day though. And they came in a lot of different styles like the ones you seen, and some with stain, glass covers and other kinds
You gave me a couple of good laughs in this one, especially with the “carpet “ on top of the toilet. It was, but not so much anymore, for obvious reasons, used as decorating the bath. They used to come in sets, there would be 2 rugs, and the toilet lid cover, and there would be a cover for the top of the tank.
These were very popular in the 70s and into the 80s in both the United States and Canada. I know for sure in the United States. And I have to agree with you, why?😄
I have to thank Danny for the lesson on stained vs tinted glass, I didn't know that. I have spice bottles like that. I bought the bottles in the store and then went to the grocery store where I bought spices that come in bags (it's cheaper this way) then filled the bottles with the spices. Zenith was a major electronics company in North America and it's now owned by LG Electronics. I think you might be right about the heritage because I believe Hildegard is a German name. The Vicks machine is a varporizer, it releases steam with Vicks mixed in to help clear stuffy noses and chest congestion. Danny's right the German flag is upside down. This was a great explore, thank you.
A nice cozy home, pretty design and colours; so many beautiful memories and traditional items forever forgotten! Thank you for sharing this nice story!
Ребята всегда с нетерпением жду ваших новых видео,интересных,удачи вам!

Hello Lesley! Your video's are really interesting, I love watching it. It's is amazing to watch such extraordinary places, i can't believe they abandon such beautiful homes. Thank you so much for your efforts for wonderful video's!! God bless 🙏
Thank you both
Love your descriptions of items in North America and comparing them to things in Europe. You were so cute in the previous video, using the recliner. Nothing in America is built like it is in Europe. Please if you ever return to America, please wear a mask. Not only for mold but these homes have lots of asbestos. You and Danny are great together. Like a comedy team. Keep up the good work. Thank you for sharing.
Swag lamps popular in us till about 80's. Some had oil run all over. You and Danny are the best at this. I watch every day. Thank you for making my day's better. Take care 🙂 💕
We still use toilet seat covers (carpets) in South Africa
You definitely do an amazing job in every home that you do and with the utmost respect for the former owners thank you for sharing it and god’s blessings always 🙏🙏🙏😊
Jullie doen het heel goed, groetjes uit België.
You doing realy great, greetings from Belgium.
I absolutely love your reverence of the homes you look at! It is so wonderful that you value and respect the families who lived there and really showcase their lives.
Hard to believe this people never come back to Canada and take some of their personal belongings like pictures with them , I wonder if this people still alive or something happened to them, it really weird indeed, it’s a lovely home and lot of memories, thank you for sharing
Great explore. You are always thorough and very respectful.
The Zenith Transoceanic radio seen on the floor at 44:25 was on the living room end table at 6:27 in a previous Canadian urbex explore video of this house. Nice to see it wasn't stolen, but just moved.
The tiny bathroom in the attic is a really neat feature of this house
Zenith was previously an American brand of consumer electronics, a manufacturer of radio and television receivers and other consumer electronics, and was headquartered in Glenview, Illinois.
Frosted glass is what was in the door & stained glass is the colored glass usually in small pieces that have lead holding it together in a picture of some sort. Leaded glass is clear small pieces of glass with lead holding them together.... 😎 Ok back to the video lol
HI. You guys do know that Canada and the United States are 2 different countries right? And Canada is huge so it would be great to know where in Canada you are at when you film these. Thanks for your videos though. They are so cool! Pura Vida.
To the daughter's I wonder how you feel😢 seeing the house and realising they were wondering what your life was like? Trying to read up on it the photo in the book as a bookmark and the other photographs❤ you and your sister if you are talking should meet in that house and have a good chat I hope everything works out whatever is happening ❤️
Awesome find here in Canada. It was fun to watch you both trying to figure out what some of the items were. I grew up with a lot of those things. I can’t wait to see more from you.
Those fancy light switch plates are also a throwback from the 1970's USA
I love a good cup of Italian Expresso. If I drink some at night I add a dash of Annisette. I have my grandparents old Expresso maker. Your right that nothing is better than a good cup of Expresso. You found a good amount of treasures in this house. How sad they left it all behind. Especially the pictures.
Bros of decay.. love your videos! The hanging lamps in this video were VERY common in many homes in the 60's and 70's in Canada and the US where I am from. They were the height of fashionable home decoration of the time.
I love BROS OF DECAY. I can’t believe how many people abandon their homes. I don’t understand how the children or grandchildren do not step forward and claim the home or very least belongings…. Especially family pictures, heirlooms. I’ve seen many of the homes you tour where there are antiques etc. articles definitely worth money. How do people not claim these??? How do you find these homes? Do you need permission to access? How do you not take things ?? 🤔. Amazing
Probably because their father was an extreme gas it. That’s a photo of a war criminal in that closet shrine.
I've never seen such tiny space so elegant, where are the children of these people, go down to the courthouse, this place is so beautiful with Hollywood vibes, SAD. Where are they? Like a dream.
I wish you both good luck with your travels, I am live in London England 🇬🇧 I have travelled a lot my self just make the best of it
This story feels like homesick, there is no other moment to go away without personal things
The mother had ready good taste in decorating the house so beautifully. The wallpaper areas had lovely contrasts on the plain walls which makes it more interesting. Those light switches were really amazing, especially the ones that matched the wall rails. Really interesting. Thanks for another trip around the world that I wouldn’t be able to do any other way.
Sou brasileira! Fico ansiosa para saber o que eles estão falando! Sou fã do trabalho desses jovens! Parabéns 👏👏👏
We call them silk flowers not plastic flowers. Plastic sounds so very cheap and there are some silk flowers that are absolutely gorgeous!
Love your videos! I would like to see summer videos made in Canada as it is a beautiful country in the warm weather. You can actually see things without things covered in snow! Love u guys.
The old picture frame with the plaid material was used by the older woman while she would sit in her chair, for when she would hand, croos word puzzles, etc., etc.
We love to watch you, your narations are so well placed and you respect the property and the privacy of the owners, thankyou, from sunny Malta
The photos should be gathered and protected. So sad when photos get lost and ruined.
Lesley you knocked it out of the park with another wonderful video. Thank you 🥰🔥
This must of been one Beautiful home at one time...I can just imagine how Beautiful it was!
Your dad must've watched them videos loads of times and your mum please collect the memories they never forgot either of you 2, lots of love no matter what you choose to do❤😊
The vicks thing is a vaporizer. You put some vicks in a spot on top and the steam from the vaporizer help with congestion. Usually used at night
Thanks!
Even as an American I agree, our coffee sucks! First time I went to Europe (specifically Spain) I was blown away by how delicious the coffee was there.

Hi Ann sound nice. Hope you’re doing well with your family?
That looks like Toronto.
Such a shame to just let it go to waste like that.
In my opinion the wife was German. Hildegard is such a German name. Thus the German flags! That Vicks device is a Humidifier and could be used to help breath better when Vicks Vaporub was added to a small compartment in the top. And that device in the container in the top bedroom with the hose and brush is a hair dryer. A bonnet attaches to the hose and you then put the bonnet over the curlers in your hair. I LOVE all the crystal chandeliers and the details (Light switch covers, toilet roll holders, towel racks) to make the house so lovely. It is so sad to see it deteriorate, I wish one of their daughters would at least come and auction off the valuables and take the personal items home. Especially the wedding album.
Wonderful job and interesting as usual. I grew up in my Grandmother's home, her kitchen cabinets were just like that!
I drink coffee with cream. From what I understand of American coffee compared to other countries is what we drink is stale or old! Even grinding whole beans! I also think the common store coffee is not a good coffee, not good quality compared to countries where it's grown!
The carpet you saw on the lid of the toilet is actually a thing people did in the usa too, it comes in a set with a piece that covers the lid and the top of the back of commode, then it has matching rugs that go on the floor in front of commode and shower so when u get out of shower your feet steps out on a rug ,also it comes with matching shower curtains
Lesley… that’s a decorative seat cover on the toilet. It comes with matching rug. We have them in the US too
A telephone in the bathroom was for security for elderly people...Many hotels have the telephone " Next to the toilet " many falls occur in the bathroom.
Another great explore. I love that you take time to show the different objects that support the story of the people. It makes the home come to life.☺
Just make me so sad to see such nice homes abandoned and not maintained.😢
I actually have that pasta maker!!!! My mom bought it for my many years ago. I've never used it...but I have it
I’m America we have matching switch plates and towels racks too. The ones in the basement bathroom were the same in my house I grew up in. I was all excited 😆 to see them
So happy you too are going to see so much and laugh so much and keep all your memories not ever left in the car or van in case they get taken🚨🚨🚨
Love your videos. Your voice and energy are so calm, and you describe everything beautifully. Thankyou for taking us on your adventures !
Looks amazing will be watching 👋
Did you talk with the daughters to find out why the home was abandoned with everything left? I think that would be an interesting story. I believe you explained that first the mother and then the father died while the daughters were in Croatia. But if the couple owned the property free of a mortgage, someone could clean it out, do the repairs, and send the proceeds (less their fee) to the daughter.
EXACTLY !! home was def paid off AGES AGO !
Probably because their father was a fascist fanatic. That’s a photo of a war criminal in his closet.
Wow.. both of you.. I just wait for your new series to release. I love antiques.. I love your blog..
Hello leslie very nice video :-):-)
Ha, ha, ha: The 'carpet' on the toilet was something many people had in Germany. Me too. The advantag is, you can close the seat without making a noise. It was just a fashion thing.
