  • U.S. Army Capt. George W. Terry was memorialized in Section MH on Dec. 1, 2023. Terry's remains were never recovered.
On Nov. 15, 1950, Terry was a passenger on board U.S. Army Tug LT-636 while towing a barge towards Wonsan Harbor, North Korea. During the tow, the tug struck a mine killing many of the crew aboard the tug and tossing others into the water. LT-636 sank within twenty minutes, which allowed some survivors to climb aboard a life raft and set out for shore while others climbed aboard the barge. Terry was thrown into the water and while he was wearing a life jacket, swift currents carried him away from the lifeboats and rescue efforts failed to locate his body. Only nine men survived the incident.
Terry joined the U.S. Army from New York and served during WWII and the Korean War. For his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Terry’s son, William Pierce, received the U.S. flag from his father’s funeral service.

And still they come home. While Capt Terry’s remains were never recovered it is fitting that this memorial was held in his honor. RIP soldier. The line holds.

As a old guard soldier when i was enlisted I am very disappointed in this team , they should be kicked out of the cemetery for not just disrespecting the flag and the family with there awful shot but will need better training form there leadership.

@KnightNamedGotham its an open recruitment program. You have to be about 6ft tall and slim to even be considered. Tomb guards and the parade unit (most of the guys here) are 2 of the 3 battalions of the 3rd infantry regiment. The other one, 2-3 INF is located at JBLM, WA state. They are a line infantry unit for the 1st stryker brigade combat team.
