  • Yes, I really destroy an Oil painting. I want to show you that letting go can be a relieve and is sometimes necessary. What is holding you back to evolve as an Artist or Human Being? This time it will be about why letting go is so important, learn to move on to become more skilled and confident at whatever you do! I want to show you an example with this cozy fairy tale inspired Art Vlog. The example therefore will be an Oil painting. I hired a voice actor too this time 🥰

This channel is a masterpiece itself. Your eye for detail, refined taste and vision and how you convey it, how you execute it, the effort you put is beyond. Very aesthetically and visually pleasing, your channel and personality draw me in. I love how you are completely comfortable with yourself and your audience, how you feel free to express and expose yourself and your vulnerability as a human being and as an artist. This channel is super cozy indeed and feels like a safe space where you can get a dose of peace and inspiration.

This reminds me of a project I did in school. We had to build cars out of cardboard that we would later ride for physics class. I spent a long time building that thing and then I spent several hours painting a mural on it for decoration. When I took it to class I got a nice reaction from my teachers and classmates and it performed well, but after class some of my classmates began to beat up their cars with the wooden sticks that we had used for the axles of the wheels. It looked really fun. I remember looking down at the car which I had worked so hard on, and being indescive. And then before I knew it, I was beating the thing with a stick as hard as I could. It was like a piñata. All of that beautifully painted cardboard ripped and crumbled under the hot sun and it felt cathartic and amazing. I remember a friend came and helped me and we had a good time. All art ends up being ephemeral sooner or later, and besides, what was I going to do with a large cardboard car sitting in the middle of my house? This way it at least went out with a bang.

First of all, I must say that I've just found this channel and it is everything that I need right now. Art has always been in my life, even if I didn't give it its rightful importance and realized how good it made me feel each time I created it. Somehow I never lost this precious feeling towards it. And so, because this channel has art at its core, I couldn't ignore the beauty in it. So thank you, Valerie Lin, you made my day. You know art isn't everything in life, but it might be everything to someone else, and that itself is so inspiring to see. Especially the devotion but also the ups and downs that you go through in your videos. I adore the truthfulness and commitment that you give to them. It makes me feel human too. So I'm grateful Valerie. Truly!

'' Art has always been in my life, even if I didn't give it its rightful importance and realized how good it made me feel each time I created it. Somehow I never lost this precious feeling towards it.'' I really relate to this sentence as well as your comment as a whole. I'm 12 and as far as I can remember, I always loved art and anything creative. I've been drawing since I was 3 or maybe even younger but thats when I gained consciousness. it always been a huge part of me and I was always known as the art kid in my class. even though I never tried to learn more about art and improve until last year, I've realized that back then I was able to throw y art in the trash without a thought and was much more free when drawing. It is one thing I want to learn again and I admire my past self for it. This video made me realize that so thank you Valerie for the video. keep creating y'all.

For a clean palette I recommend using glass. I actually bought a cheap picture frame that already has the glass, put a grey midtone coloured paper underneath. Whenever I need to clean (which is often) I simply scrape it off with a glass cleaner blade. I also bought that for cheap from a hardware store. Very useful! And so satisfying when you are scraping the dried paint off. :)

This video's caption caught my eye, I was truly surprised. The thing is.....I make traditional and digital art, AND I also always destroy my art after making it. That's why even after all those years, a single drawing of mine cannot be found. I've always found a certain pleasure in seeing my paintings burn (it took weeks of hardwork) but it was never easy for me, it took great bravery. It's almost like strengthening or training your mind. I know it's a bit weird, but it has now become my favourite hobby :) It has also helped me to stay strong and go through some of the most despairing moments of my life.

Very surprising and cool use of the voice actor! Lovely video and so honest. If I have a painting that's not going well, I used to get so angry and depressed but now I just allow myself to be annoyed then give myself the pep talk: "What have you learned from the mistakes? It's not the end of the world. The next one might be much better." Often the next one is better, so I've learned that a fail is not a permanent state.

PRO TIP: Attach wax paper or parchment paper to your pallet using binder clips. That way you won't have to clean it; just throw away the paper.

Captivating story, Valerie. Thank you for sharing . I was surprised by the naration, that's new element :)
Personally, I would have painted over the canvas or unstapled it from stretcher bars if the format is not fitting, but that's just part of me trying to save every bit of art supply. :)
I Love your videos, always happy to see a new one. So much attention to detail. And the storytelling is amazing. Hats off to you, Valerie.

i just got chills from this video. i struggle alot with trying to force myself to create, but this made me realise i shouldn't put that pressure on myself, and that meaning is more important than a good concept/composition. i need to put passion in what i do and not do it for the sake of creating. love your channel valerie!!

By the way Valerie, thank you very much, I've been watching your videos and they've been giving me ideas about the things I couldn't see. You're amazing :3

Aw this come just in time, I really need this! 😭 So today I've been painting as usual and my mother said it turns out good but, I don't know.. I just don't feel it right and considering hard whether to keep it or destroy it. The video felt like an answer to me, it's coming handy! Thank you! (P.s: Also, massive love for your videos, artwork and self-reflections though ☺♡)

Trying again with this mindset that it's okay to fail, and to let go of things you've spent a lot of time on, really connects with me. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful video!
