The Meeden Watercolor Set includes 24 metal tubes of watercolor. Each tube contains 12ml of paint. Below is a listing of the paint's color name, pigment information, lightfastness, transparency, and whether or not it is a single pigment. One of the paints has a lightfastness rating of 2 stars, and that is the Orange Yellow.
A note on the pigment information: I have not performed lightfastness tests on these paints. Since there isn't a lot of information regarding what those three stars actually equate to in years, and there is some doubt as to the claimed stability of the pigment used (some may be inaccurate & not actually the pigment listed. PBk11, in particular, should granulate and the greens, not so much)
I will use these paints in my sketchbook until I am confident in the accuracy of these ratings after I have performed my own home lightfastness tests.

Because of these cautions, I believe these paints are wonderfully suitable for beginner, student or any level sketchbook use.
Bottom line, though, I like the paints enough to continue to use them! I experienced nothing negative while I was using them. Some reviewers were not as happy as I was. If you’re looking for paints to just have fun with, I think the Meeden Watercolors are great!
The brushes would also be wonderful for gouache, and the paper is truly amazing!
These are really very nice paints and I feel overall that they are an excellent bargain and will suit you well for sketchbook use!

Oooooh, I love that water reservoir in particular, but as I am skint (poor) at the moment, I shall need to wait - I’m not good at the whole waiting thing. That’s what happens when you go through an expensive home move… Lovely Water Lily painting. They are a plant that hold a certain fascination for me. ❤️🎨🖌👩🏻🎨❤️

Worth watching Lindsay, frugalcrafter review on these paints ( she has an affiliate code too for fairness) she had good insight on the paints on different types of paper. And it would be especially disappointing to the beginners amongst us who mainly use cellulose paper or other types of cotton. Spoiler alert she has a different view to this 😛
Hello! Thanks for watching and commenting. I have followed Lindsay for years & have seen her review. My experience with these paints is reflected accurately in this video. I am aware that she was not as pleased with them as I was; I did not have the streaking issue she experienced. I have used the paints on many different papers and stand by my opinions as expressed in this video. For beginners, the Meeden 100% cotton paper is very affordable and I highly recommend it.
Did you happen to get your hands on any of the Meeden gouache? I’d like to add that to my order, but am curious to see some reviews on it first.
Unfortunately I have not tried it yet-darn! Sorry about that. I bet you can find some reviews on RUclips. If not, I really like the Art Philosophy as a good place to start with gouache. ❤️🤠

What did you think of the brushes? I know you use a lot of professional brushes so I would be interested in what you think.
I’m glad you asked! They definitely aren’t professional brushes but I do like them much more than I thought I would. I’m continuing to use them-the handle doesn’t feel like real wood & they are very light. On some, the ferrules don’t look perfectly straight but they are all attached securely. The filaments all have an excellent point and the way they hold water makes it easy to control. They aren’t thirsty. I will keep using them-they are on sale right now $17.95 for 10 brushes. I think they are definitely worth that price (even their regular price of $19.95). I hope that’s helpful to you-definitely an 8.5/10 for brushes in this class. For under $2 per brush, they are a very nice set.

@@christinewhitacre9287 hi Chris! They do carry a 100% cotton hot press paper! Go to their site through the link in the video description & search watercolor paper. You’ll see a green one and the one I featured in. This video. Click on the green one & then select hot press as an option. (The hot press is orange.) I’ve used that paper in the past and truly love it!
