The dim lighting and bold shadows in the "Errand Boy" scene is fantastic.
Copolla really wanted to do not just movies but great masterpieces.
If we talk about Francis Ford Coppola and chaotic productions, they will always say Apocalypse now. And beyond the fact that it was complicated to make, his war film would become one of the best Coppola made and a classic.
Both the direction, Martin Sheen, Marlos Brando, the cinematography and the dark and brutal atmosphere, and with legendary moments such as the helicopters arriving, among others.
And I couldn't forget The End by The Doors
I'm already looking forward to Megalopolis...
And dont forget Robert Duvall
I'd love to see a video on Coppola's "The Conversation." One of my all time favorite movies.
I’ve seen a lot of films and I love a lot of cinematography but this film definitely has my favorite cinematography of all time. Just something about the darker shots of characters in confined spaces in the film and the shots of the jungle with the orange flares or smoke or gases blowing between the trees for example and not just how colorful and vibrant the jungle scenes are but the amount of detail in the scenes as well. I think this film should be remembered as one of the greatest masterpieces in cinema and even with as much praise as it gets I feel it doesn’t get enough.

Agree. I saw Apocalypse Now when it first came out and it was NOT well understood and, in 1979, I think people wanted to just forget about Viet Nam. I loved it from the start and it is my favorite film. A masterpiece.

Sometimes I wonder how such a masterpiece could be created by us mere humans. What a powerful crew and cast lead by a powerful director.
I have read the book Heart of darkness, which inspired Coppola for this film. But, man, ¡¡OH MAN THE MOVIE IS WAY MUCH GREATER!!
Great works of art have that effect. It is if a divine force is passing through the flawed human vessel. Reminds me of watching a dramatization of the creation of "David" by Michelangelo, the great classical musicians, etc.
For me it is the best film of the Vietnam War....
